former president trump has not really changed his tune on his charges after being booked in georgia. he said that he had every right to challenge the results of the is election. but authorities are calling into question how that challenge played out. a presidential first with a mugshot for former president donald trump as he was booked and fingerprinted after turning himself in to georgia authorities yesterday. he's facing 13 counts alleging a scheme to reverse his 2020 election loss in that state. trump said he was, quote, treated very nicely during the process which took less than 30 minutes, then he was released on $200,000 bond. >> what has taken place here is a travesty of justice. we did nothing wrong. i did nothing wrong. >> reporter: later another first for the defiant former president -- sharing his mugshot on x, formerly known as twitter, posting for the first time since his temporary ban after the january 6th attack on the capitol. trump's campaign is also using the jailhouse photo in a fundraising push.

>> for those of you who still believe in trump, i got kool-aid. >> reporter: trump critics and supporters showed up outside the fulton county jail including trump ally and georgia republican congresswoman marjorie taylor greene. >> he's a victim of the weaponized government. >> reporter: more than half of the other 18 defendants have turned themselves including chief of staff mark meadows. those who haven't surrendered face a deadline of noon today. this was not the arraignment that we've been also waiting for here. that could happen as soon as next month. the d.a. is pushing to move the trial dates up from next march to this october after one of trump's co-defendants demanded a speedy trial. obviously trump's legal team is against that idea. >> yeah. i expect a lot of legal wrangling about that. jarred hill in new york. thank you. >> reporter: of course. now to that mysterious plane crash in russia that apparently killed mercenary leader yevgeny prigozhin.

the pentagon says it believes prigozhin died in that private plane crash near moscow on wednesday, while intelligence points to an intentional explosion on board. debora patta reports. >> reporter: this is what residents in a russian village north of moscow saw and heard. the plane was flying, said anastasia bukharova, and then boom, it exploded. flight data shows it reached an altitude of 28,000 feet before spiralling to the ground with a missing wing and bursting into flmes in a nearby field. a u.s. official has told cbs news the most likely explanation is an explosion on board the jet, possibly caused by a bomb. all ten bodies have been recovered and taken for identification. the man who once said the only thing he could not forgive was betrayal acknowledged today that yevgeny prigozhin was probably on that doomed flight.

he had a complicated fate, president vladimir putin said, and he made some serious mistakes. the most serious, that audacious mutiny and the moment prigozhin in all likelihood signed his death warrant. the consensus from western intelligence is that the crash is most likely a cold slice of revenge dished up by putin. prigozhin's fighters laid flowers and lit candles outside wagner's headquarters. "it feels like losing a father," said this soldier. "he was everything for us." and without prigozhin it's feared wagner poses an even bigger threat under putin. >> that was debora patta reporting. back home, we are learning more about the mass shooting at a biker bar in southern california. authorities say retired police officer john snowling was targeting his estranged wife when he opened fire wednesday night killing three people and wounding six others.

power lines and damaged homes across the state. nearly 400,000 customers the lost power. the governor declared a state of emergency. in hawaii overnight, officials released the names of eight more victims of the maui wildfire including the first child identified. a 7-year-old boy whose remains were found in a burned out car with three family members. as ben tracy reports, it comes as authorities search for more victims on land and in sea. >> reporter: divers are scouring a four-mile stretch of water off lahaina searching for any human remains. scores of people jumped into the water to escape the fast-moving fire on august 8th. nonot everyonene made it o out. back on shore, the painstakingly grim search for the dead conditions. >> the amount of fire destruction that's happened here makes everything blend together. >> repeporter: mikike prewitt t papart of femama's search h tea focused on combing through the multistory and commercial properties. hundreds of emergency personnel

the cause of the fire is under investigation. well, the governor of new york state asked the white house for urgent help to deal with a surge of migrants, and a young boy swimming in very shallow water is bitten by a shark. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." "the raleigh news and observer" reports a shark bit a child swimming at a north carolina beach. police say a 9-year-old boy was in water two to three feet deep off oak island about 30% miles south of wilmington. his family noticed a fish jumping out of the water before a small shark bit the boy on the shoulder. he was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released. "the new york times" says new york democratic governor kathy hochul is criticizing the white house for failing to help deal with the influx of migrants including more than 100,000 who have arrived in new york city over the past year. she said that she sent a letter to mr. biden asking the
