11:14 pm
is a map of accumulated rainfall. this is a lot of rain in the desert, particularly for this time of year, which is why the dry lake bed that burning man sits on for the black rock desert , and this is why was able to turn to mud, because it is an ancient lake from the ice age. when you see it on satellite, now you will always know where everybody is going for burning man. but that was part of the system that also brought us temperatures that were 15 degrees below average. did you see the spinning area of low pressure? the center of the low is right here. area of low pressure came in and sat right off the coast of california and you really see it! it brought a lot of cold air down with it from the gulf of alaska and we will watch the next 24 hours again. it is why
11:15 pm
we got a little bit of rain. it was on the leading edge with a real explosive energy providing the rain to do what it did for burning man. so you can see how they were all connected. what matters most for us is the cooler that it brought down with it. there is another one coming just like that coming our way this week , so the temperatures here at home are not going to warm up in a significant way, but we are going to warm up tomorrow here anyway. you will be about 10 degrees warmer. we will also start out with the marine layer in the morning, so here is how my day is different. we wake up with marine layer clouds but by the time we get to the afternoon they are all gone. we will not have any of these leftover clouds. there is no more chance for rain tomorrow. if you are inland it will be sunny and in the mid-80s. if
11:16 pm
you want to enjoy the last part of the weekend and go to the coast it will be in the low 60s and cloudy there. the weather will not change that much. here is what will do bay area-wide. this is where we notice a difference. everybody was in the mid-70s today. tomorrow if you are inland you are back in the mid-80s. if you are in the bay you don't really change a whole lot at all. and now we take those numbers and for the next seven days you don't change a lot but there is a subtle warming trend that takes us through the end of the week. watch what happens. you are going to warm up to the mid-80s. san jose will go from around 80 to upper 80s by next weekend and inland and east bay, gradually that will change and you will warm back up to being closer to 90 degrees. andrea, back over to you. coming up next, the united auto workers union is on the verge of hitting the picket lines as the summer of strikes heats up. what 49ers linebackers like to eat! >> i can make a turkey, i can make a ham, i can make some chicken! and college football on a

11:26 pm
right-hand turn takes us to an old school house hitchcock picked for a very spooky reason. >> alfred hitchcock was a man who believed in ghosts. the building is a designated classic aunt. >> reporter: we know of at least one ghost. >> she walks down and the birds gather. and then -- >> as if this wasn't bad enough, hitchcock now makes one town out of two, bodega and bodega bay which are seven miles apart! >> in one scene you are in bodega and then the camera switches and you see the coast. you see them running down what is actually called taylor street in bodega bay. >> reporter: hitchcock's granddaughter was actually at the chute that day. >> the birds were attached to the kids' hands. so when they
11:27 pm
ran they would go like this and so the birds would be hitting their head. >> don't they ever stop migrating? >> another trick showed birds in the skies that were actually film 60 miles away. circling, what else, the san francisco dump. >> where they headed? >> the birds were then grafted onto the background whenever they need them. >> he heard there was a real-life attack and he knew that he wanted to put that into his phone. >> that's right sir, i recall it! >> reporter: that conversation takes place in what was once a small diner. >> this was the center or heart of bodega bay. >> reporter: now back in the day the owner did not charge hitchcock a dime for shooting on the premises. all he wanted
11:28 pm
was his 15 minutes of fame. >> he gets a cameo appearance and also a line in the film. >> that happened in this crucial sequence which took place right there. >> as melanie is attacked in the boat he runs down and asks rob taylor, what happened? that is his big moment. >> reporter: in the end, hitchcock did not lose money. he made up to five times as much is the cost to produce the film. he also made one other thing. a lasting impression. >> just ask the tourist bureau. apparently 10,000 tourists come to look for him every year. >> reporter: 60 years after filming wrapped here, bodega bay is still very much for the birds. >> it is so much fun to take a
