at what cost to the city, the cuts the mayor says they are going to have to make to meet demands. thank you for joining us this afternoon, i'm elizabeth cook. here is a look at the salesforce tower in san francisco as more than 40,000 people are in town for the annual dream force conference. the event kicked off today and is expected to bring in $90 million to the local economy. anne makovec is joining us with more, and the focus of this year's conference is artificial intelligence? >> reporter: yes, dream force kicking off today, and one of the big takeaways so far, the announcement of salesforce rolling out artificial intelligence to its applications, the new assistant is called einstein platform, it aims to help people in their everyday work and give companies the ability to connect any data to build a.i. powered apps. >> we want to build in salesforce, the trusted a.i. platform for customer

companies, that is our mission around a.i. we want to build the trusted platform for customer companies so everyone is an einstein and more productive. but, these words are ordered in a certain way, because we think the prioritization is important, and we think the trust is the highest priority. >> we have been reporting that many have threatened to pull the annual conference out of san francisco if the city's ongoing issues with homelessness and drugs and up impacting the event, so there's a lot riding on this conversation to make sure everything goes as planned. tomorrow, governor gavin newsom is expected to speak, he's going to focus on the future of california and the state leadership in tech and innovation, also the foo fighters are going to headline the concert, that is going on at chase center tomorrow night. thank you so much. in the east bay, a diablo valley

college professor is facing human trafficking charges, the contra costa district attorneys office said 39-year-old, kyle whitmore was arrested for allegedly trafficking two women for prostitution. the d.a.s office said they arrested him after one of the victims notified campus officials. whitmore is being held at the county jail. he taught communication studies . oakland has been without a permanent police chief since february and the mayor told us on our noon show today she is ready to call a state of emergency, if the police commission doesn't submit a list of top candidates by the end of the year. >> the only time that i'm up to that, as you can say, is when they recommend the top three candidates to me and that has yet to happen because of the fighting.

>> she fired armstrong this year but the commission is in charge of finding armstrong's replacement as some community groups have been calling on town to declare a general state of emergency. sheng thao says that is not necessary but she is willing to declare one specifically over the police chief position. over 24 hours, three people were shot and killed in oakland, at least two others were shot and wounded, one of the people who died was a local dj, he was shot and run over by a car early sunday morning. we spoke with a friend who said he wanted to make oakland a better place. >> i just want people to understand that people do care

about them. >> reporter: this is one example of oakland's giving spirit, according to his friend who said he drove to skid row in l.a. during the pandemic, he bought 500 blankets to donate. early sunday morning, friends identified him as the young man who was shot right before he was hit by a car. on 14th street in downtown oakland. >> oakland is terrible right now. >> reporter: one of his closest friends was one block away late saturday night when shots rang out. >> all down the street. >> reporter: and the emotions are still too raw, to dj.

>> he would have been a great father, you know, he would always say thank you. >> reporter: he heard gunshots around 2:30 a.m., everyone inside ran and hid in the back for hours. terrified. >> i saw people running down the street, and when we saw the people running down the street, we gathered, something was going on. then we ran, too. >> reporter: oakland police have not released information on a suspect or motive. but, beyond his talents, peanuts positivity would reach friends and strangers. >> what will you miss the most about peanut? >> his passion for people, he

did a giveaway, he would give them the shoes off his feet. >> reporter: at this time last year, oakland police have recorded 87 homicides, the city just caught up with that number this weekend. crews have dug up an entire intersection of san francisco as they work to fix the giant sinkhole, this started sunday night on fillmore and green when water main broke, flooding businesses and homes. last night, crews were able to repair the break and they are working to patch up the sinkhole, no word on when they will be able to reopen the road. to san jose, mayor matt mahan is speaking out against the looming cuts proposed by city leaders in the wake of recent labor agreements, the city council is ready to vote for new contracts, after thousands of city workers were set to go on strike over wages. the deal would give employees an immediate 6% pay raise and a 5% wage hike in the

fiscal year starting in july. and a pay increase of 3.5% in 2025. but in order to make it work, the mayor said the city is now proposing cuts to its park programs, traffic safety measures and even crossing guards. >> i don't think we should be in the position of making service cuts today, i think it is completely unnecessary, i think the council has failed to balance the needs of our workforce with those of the residence. and i think we have seen this before. >> the mayor said the city right now cannot afford the pay raises and plans to vote against the new contracts. our top national story, republicans say they plan to move ahead with possible impeachment of president joe biden. this comes as congress is already battling a tight deadline to keep the government running. skyler henry has details from capitol hill. >> reporter: kevin mccarthy is directing the house committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into president joe

biden. >> this logical next step will give the committee full power to gather all of the facts and answers for the american public. >> reporter: republicans say hunter biden's business dealings were asking to cash in millions of dollars, and accusing the department of justice of getting preferential treatment to him during investigations. >> these are all investigations of abuse of power, obstruction, corruption, and they want further investigation by the house of representatives. >> reporter: the moves comes such as matt geatz threatened to violate a motion of the speaker's chair if mccarthy didn't agree to the impeachment inquiry. while republicans appear ready to begin, lawmakers have a much more pressing issue to deal with, congress has until the end of the month to pass the spending bill or the government will shut down. >> there has been bipartisan support to pass the bill in the

senate. >> we have worked immediately to build consensus and as many bills as possible with deadlines looming large. >> reporter: some house republicans say they won't support a deal that continues to fund ukraine's fight against russia. >> once again, i implore leadership to reject all tactics, reject unrealistic expectations and refused to cave to the extremist demands we are hearing from 30 or so members on the fringe. >> reporter: should report, support to aid ukraine is split evenly. >> 61% of those surveyed said the u.s. should not send weapons to ukraine. still ahead, google goes on trial, it could be the biggest antitrust trial in decades .

a landmark trial pitting the federal government against google got underway today as natalie brand reports, the justice department and 14 states accuse the company of illegally monopolizing web searching, something the company strongly denies. >> google's legal team arrived at the u.s. district court in washington tuesday to defend itself against a landmark antitrust trial, the justice department claims the tech giant illegally pays more than $10 billion annually to make google the default search engine on the iphone and web

browsers, shutting out rivals. >> what the government is arguing in this case is that google has not only obtained a monopoly, but they have done so through using anticompetitive tactics. >> google makes it nearly impossible for small companies to compete for business online. >> they are a gatekeeper for access to information, for every business that wants to reach the consumer. that is incredibly powerful. >> the government said google dominates nearly 90% of all searches in the u.s. and 95% of searches on mobile devices. google denies any wrongdoing. >> people don't use google because they have to, they use it because they want to. >> ken walker said if users don't want to use google as the default, they don't have to. >> it is really easy to switch on their smart phone, it couldn't be easier to download another app if they are looking for a different search engine. >> the trial is set to last about 10 weeks. >> the judge in this case is not expected to issue a ruling until early next year. if google loses, it could pay a fine or potentially be broken

up. in cupertino, apple held its annual product event, the iphone and apple watch were centerstage. apple is making it easier to charge your iphone, it is ditching the lightning connector and instead, it'll use you sbc charging cables which are competitive with non-apple products. another new feature is roadside assistance through satellite, for those who are off the grid and need help. >> it is launching in the u.s. with aaa, the country's largest roadside assistance provided. roadside service is covered by aaa membership. and it's also available separately for nonmembers. >> there's also a new apple watch series 9, the first 100% carbon neutral product and will no longer be offered with a leather band. the iphone 15 starts at $800. both are available later on this month. the tick-tock shop officially launched today, it

allows users to buy products stray from videos and live streams, the app hopes to quadruple the merchandise sales by the end of the year. last year, the shop generated more than $4 billion in sales in southeast asia. believe it or not, it is getting cheaper to shop online, a report out today from adobe analytic chose year-over-year online prices fell 2.3%, that is the biggest annual drop in 40 months. the report is a sign that inflation might be slowing. a report in the consumer price index comes out tomorrow. let's switch gears and take a look at the forecast with first alert meteorologist , daren peck. >> let's show you what we have,

and if you want it cooler, i'm going to show you and that is coming, we are going to start off with the seven-day forecast, and we are going to use the most extreme numbers, this would be the inland parts of contra costa county, specific to concord. and there is a lot of low mid 80s and here, 87 would be average, so we are not changing a lot, but notice there is a cooling trend all the way back here. 77 degrees for the daytime high when we get to next tuesday. when we do that, that is going to be 10 degrees below average. 77 is a nice day, it won't be long before that is considered kind of warm. but it is still 10 degrees below average, by then we will probably be about nine degrees below average. in concord right now, the current number is 83 degrees. and if we come back into the city where we have been watching the marine layer trying to creep over the hills, it's certainly coming through the golden gates, but it is a relatively

warm 73, that is the number coming from the official weather station downtown. what is interesting, while inland parts of the bay, this is the time of year where your average daytime high will start falling by a degree. in the city, this is when the average daytime high will start going up. the average is right around 70, that is the warmest average of the summer so far, the averages have been in the upper 60s for a while. so we do a little bit of an offshore wind event, very subtle coming tomorrow. on the big picture, we don't see any storms, but look at that waves of energy. that is a weak area of low pressure that is going to clip to the north, we really have to look at the atmosphere in detail to see this subtle change but there is a weak front that comes through and that gives us a very subtle offshore wind. if we go back to the image, that is tomorrow, but it is not strong enough for any fire weather concerns. what it might do is help erode the marine layer a little bit more but you will still wake up with

some of the marine layer. that is tomorrow morning. and when we get over the city and into the south bay, you are probably looking for clear skies. we are in that time of year where we still get the marine layer in the morning. but it is gone by late morning. daytime highs tomorrow are very much like what we did today. when we compare that with wednesday and the rest of the seven-day, we have already seen a change for the inland parts of the bay area there is san francisco and oakland. northbay valleys from the upper 80s to the mid-70s. you will feel that next week. and by the weekend and into next week, san jose, you don't change a lot but you will be in the upper 70s by the time you get to the later part of next week. always picking out the extremes, the beaches don't change. the 49ers defense helped them come out on top against the steelers. coming
