against the former president could cost him a lot of capital. the attorney general is not only asking for a massive fine, but also a permanent ban against donald trump from running businesses out of the very city where he launched his storied career. >> we did nothing wrong. >> reporter: former president donald trump was defiant outside a new york courtroom yesterday, railing against new york attorney general letitia james. >> the attorney general of this state is a disgrace. letitia james is a disgrace, she's a disgrace. >> reporter: and the civil case her office brought against him, the trump organization, and his two eldest sons. >> there's no case here. there's no victim. >> reporter: trump is accused of misrepresenting his net worth by over $3.5 billion, claiming his trump tower penthouse was nearly three times its size and valuing mar-a-lago as high as $739 million, though it was actually assessed to be worth roughly $28 million. prosecutors are seeking $250 million and a slew of sanctions

gaetz filed a rare motion to vacate yesterday. it forces a vote in the coming days on whether to oust mccarthy as speaker. gaetz has criticized mccarthy for working with democrats to pass bipartisan legislation to fund the government and avert a partial shutdown. >> i have enough republicans where at this point next week, one of two things will happen. kevin mccarthy won't be the speaker of the house, or he'll be the speaker of the house working at the pleasure of the democrats. >> reporter: mccarthy responded on social media saying simply, bring it on. >> reporter: breaking overnight, there's word that a u.s. congressman was carjacked at gunpoint, just about a mile from the u.s. capitol. texas democrat henry cuellar was parking his car at his apartment building last night when three armed attackers stole it, according to his office. cuellar was not hurt and the car has since been recovered. no word if anyone has been arrested, though. also breaking overnight, we learning shocking new details about a 9-year-old girl who was found alive after disappearing

over the weekend in upstate new york. officials say charlotte sena was found alive and in good health. they say a suspect, craig ross jr. left a ransom note for the girl's parents and police matched his fingerprint from a dui arrest back in 1999. new york governor kathy hochul says police tracked the suspect to a camper less than a half mile from where charlotte was abducted. >> after some resistance, the suspect was taken into custody. and immediately, the little girl was found in a cabinet, covered. she was rescued. >> jericka duncan has more on the search for answers. >> reporter: the investigation is still ongoing as the family of charlotte sena is being reunited with their 9-year-old daughter. this comes after an extensive two-day search for the young girl. about 400 search and rescue

personnel used k-99s and drones, hoping to find any clue that would lead them to her. just hours ago, family and friends were panicked. >> she is just a sweet, adorable girl. >> reporter: charlotte had been camping with family at moreau lake state park, about 45 minutes north of albany, new york. according to state police on saturday night around 6:15, she went for a bike ride near a park loop with friends, doing the last loop alone. when she didn't return 15 minutes later, her family began looking for her. around 6:45 p.m., her bike was discovered and her parents reported her disappearance to new york state police who were on site by 7:00 p.m. an amber alert was issued sunday morning. in 2022, the fbi documented over 359,000 reports of missing children nationwide. >> non-family abductions are very rare in the united states today. >> reporter: cases like charlotte's? >> just like charlotte's. >> reporter: new york governor

kathy hochul brought attention to charlotte's case on sunday. >> i promised her parents, we'll find her daughter. she's all of our's daughters. >> reporter: jericka duncan, cbs news, new york. a shocking story out of maryland. dozens of people are suing, claiming they were sexually abused while in detention and the state did nothing about it. it comes after a new maryland law lifted the statute of limitations for child sex abuse claims. adriana diaz spoke to one victim. >> i used to hear keys turn at night, but i never knew what it was, until it happened personally to me. >> reporter: 49-year-old claudia mcclain was just 13 when she was sent to this maryland juvenile detention center for stealing bicycles. instead of reform, she got trauma. >> your body clench, because you don't know what the [ bleep ] is going on. >> reporter: mcclain says she told her mother, who complained to authorities. >> and nothing happened? >> nothing. i'm just starting to come to

terms with it about ten years ago, to be honest. >> we can't expect children to come forward in the same manner, the same short time period that an adult would. >> reporter: attorney sharon iskra is leading lawsuits including mcclain's against the state, alleging it failed to protect children. >> reporter: how many people come forward to you? >> over 400. the number is rising. >> reporter: cbs news found over a dozen reports over the last six decades that detail abuse in maryland's juvenile detention. >> why not go after the perpetrators themselves? >> because the state put them in charge. and the people who read these reports, they could fix it. and i don't know why they didn't. >> reporter: maryland's attorney general's office says they cannot comment due to pending litigation. >> this really allows us to open their books, find out what they were doing. >> reporter: the new law was proposed by maryland state delegate, ct wilson, who was abused as a child by his adoptive father. how many times did you introduce this legislation? >> at least six.

"the bismarck tribune" says a north dakota state senator, his wife, and their young children, two of them, were killed in a plane crash. officials say senator doug larsen was piloting the small plane went it crashed sunday night in utah. a bouquet of roses was draped oer larson's desk in the senate chamber. a senate leader says larsen, his his wife and kids were visiting family in arizona and stopped to refuel in utah. the ntsb is investigating the crash.
