trickle of information from their loved ones in harm's way has run dry. israeli government says 1200 people have been killed including children and families. thousands more injured in israel. and, a humanitarian crisis unfolding in gaza. 1100 people have been killed there according to local health officials. there are plane palestinian americans who are here in the bay area who feel incredibly helpless looking on as israel strikes gaza from the air and has cut off power, food, fuel. a spoke to a woman in danville that just lost contact with her family today. she shared her worst fears for them. >> to suffer a slow death rather than a devastating blow. i mean, like i said, they are out of water. they have complete darkness at nighttime and they are almost out of fuel

everywhere else so, to, to think of my uncle who needs a breathing machine and not be able to run it or my cousin who just had a newborn not be able to feed him or for someone who needs to drink water, very simple for that to be cut off and to experience that kind of suffering is -- it is hard to think about. >> certainly not the only one who has had increasing trouble reaching family in gaza as the days where on. the arab resource and organization has been fielding countless calls from palestinians in the bay area trying to get any information they can. >> we are getting a lot of calls of palestinians afraid for their family members. they want to know the question that

we ask, what can we do about this? >> makes me sick, frustrated, helpless. because those are my people. >> reporter: the international committee of the red cross is warning that hospitals in gaza risk turning into morgues as they lose power. >> and, there have been horrifying stories of suffering coming out of israel. hamas stormed a neighborhood near the gaza border on saturday morning. thomas was pinned down under heavy gun four for 12 hours as the terrorists went door to door executing. his 8-year-old daughter was staying with one of the neighbors, he had no idea what happened to her until two days later. >> i just said we found emily -- they just said we found emily. she is dead. and i went,

yes! i went yes! and smiled because that is the best news of the possibilities that i knew that the best possibility that i was hoping for. she was either dead or in gaza and if you know anything about what they do to people in gaza that is worse than death. that is worse than death. the way they treat you. they would have no food, they would have no water. she would number a darkroom filled with christ knows how many people and terrified every minute, hour, day and possible years to come. so death was a blessing an salute blessing. >> that was very, very hard to hear. the congregation here in napa held a vigil to grieve the

lives of the lost. andrea nakano was there tonight. >> johanna was one of many sitting in the synagogue. trying to hold back tears as she spoke to the crowd sharing hear story. >> this has been a nightmare. you wake up in the morning and you feel like it is, it can not be real. >> reporter: two of her family members died and many others are on the frontlines fighting against hamas. >> we always knew what they were capable of doing. we just never thought they would get the opportunity to do it. so, we are all in shock. i think we go from phases of just complete devastation and rage. i feel like i have anger coursing through my body >> it is tough to be thousands of miles from home and doing what she can here in the u.s. she works with an organization called "stand with us" to

spread information. there is no disputing the horrific images coming out of israel. >> this is really, really sick. how can anybody justify this from the river to the sea do people know what that means? you are asking for israel to be eliminated from the river to the sea. >> reporter: for this congregation there is a sense of disbelief and shock about what is happening to the jewish people. >> i was a rabbi and a police chaplain in new york during september 11 and i went down to ground zero. i had a similar experience t. is incredible that there are still people in this world that act in horrific ways and take innocent life. >> reporter: the jewish community council is doing its part to provide resources and get out credible sources of information. now is the time for jews and allies in the bay area to support israel's safety. >> what is going on is an atrocity. they are murdering children, they are kidnapping,

they are desecrating bodies. speaking out is important and calling it what it is. terrorism and an attack on the jewish people. >> an attack that many fear will impact generations to come. >> i have two young children and it terrifies me that this is the world we are bringing them up in. the jewish people will not be the same. >> we are hearing stories of survival from the music festival where hundreds were killed. many survive ares touched down in touch -- survivors touched down at the airport. >> reporter: it is probably the tightest hug that he has ever given his son. >> it is a miracle. here, alive. >> reporter: he was at israel at the music festival that was the site of a terrorist massacre. he there was with five cousins when rockets flew over head and a shooting began. he called his dad in los angeles to tell him what was going on. >> i was on the line with him and then the phone hang up and no signal and i believe the worst has happened. >> reporter: four hours straight, leaving everything behind including the shirt he had on. he would not realize how lucky he was until later after news broke that 260 people have been killed there. >> finally i, i hear that they took him to a safe place. i was relaxed but i was waiting for this day to see him here with me. >> it was not just his son who was incredibly lucky. >> when i came back home i -- i

. a brentwood police officer recovering tonight after being stabbed and a 16-year-old boy is in custody. officers got a call from brentwood city park about someone taunting people with a kitchen knife. when the police tried to arrest him he lashed out with a weapon. >> we saw the officer that was stabbed was chasing a kid with a knife. we saw the kid pull a knife out and stab the guy and then we saw a female officer come up and she drew her gun and told him to get on the ground and the kid dropped the knife and the female officer kicked it away. >> a bistander held the teenager down until other officers got there to help. the injuries officer, we are told, will be okay. san francisco schoolteacher is taking upside jobs just to make ends meet. tonight, their union is counting up the

ballots from a strike vote. no word on the vote yet but parents should be prepared. >> reporter: middle schoolteacher, genesis, moved out of san francisco to find cheaper rent. a move she had to pursue to pay for other necessities >> to go into a job like this you go into it knowing you will have to be everything for your kids. it does make it really difficult to do that if you are worry about your own baggage and your own life issues. >> reporter: she says she tried supplementing her salary by working for door dash and uber eats for years the science teacher helped organize school supply donations for many of her under served students in the mission. >> prizes and things that make school fun, stickers, our families, our community has been doing that rather than the district. >> sfusd offer including a $10,000 increase for teachers across the board. a $30 minimum wage for noncertified

instructors and to start, additional 4% raise for all educators starting in 2024. >> it is a lot closer than where you were a week ago or even two weeks ago. >> they did move a lot closer. >> reporter: casandra and president of the united educators of san francisco teacher's union. >> they put forward an increase that, that we know folks are not happy with. >> reporter: the district officials say the most recent proposal, if accepted, will be a major step to retract and retain educators. the union disagrees. >> we are done being disrespected. we are done being not listened to and it results directly in our classrooms >> had a lot of highs, had a lot of lows. i love this community and i want to stay here >> when we lose teachers because they do not get paid enough we have a lot of fresh teacher who's are not knowledgeable or a lot of openings like we have seen this entire school year. >> public schoolteachers have not gone on strike since 1979.

genesis hopes that this is not the year. >> the superintendent told us tonight the district has to balance what is best for teachers and students when deciding how to spend taxpayer dollars. the next session is set for monday. few weeks ago we told you about a chinatown pet store owner that chose to give away his business, his family business and after our report aired he found someone willing to take it on and buy all of his inventory. well, oakland's oldest bakery is doing something similar. it just went on sale for $1. the owner of grand bakery sent out an email calling for someone passionate about jewish baking to take it. the owner says he does not care about the money he just wants to find the right person to carry on the bakery's 60 year legacy. it is a wholesale bakery known for jewish baked goods. for $1 the buyer gets their recipes, employees and the brand. it is international day of

the girl. young girls that love basketball, what better way to celebrate than with the warriors. the team put on a clinic for girls at the oak and facility a week after announcing they are bringing a wnba expansion team to the bay. we spoke to a young girl who is shooting for the stars. >> there are about flint girls here from cities -- 90 girls here from the city. >> reporter: we talked to a 7th grader whose dream is to make it to the wnba. is peyton's second year playing basketball. she is from tracy. along with many girls here it was her first time at the war years open facility. >> a great opportunity. >> reporter: she has skills and aiming high. she says her dream is to play in the wnba. specifically in phoenix. >> that is where my grandma and grandpa live. it would be nice to live by family. >> reporter: she says it could be hard being a girl playing

basketball. it motivates her. >> a lot of people think boys are the only ones but girls are allowed to do whatever they want. >> reporter: the warriors invited girls in bay area communities to participate in a basketball clinic on international day of the girl. they are already thinking about what they want to do when they grow up. >> there you go. handle it, handle it >> warriors player was there participating in some of the drills with them >> from a personal experience i grew up in the ymca. being around people and sports and just like high like character people that are going to donate their time to kids it inspires me. >> reporter: they announced they are bringing a wnba expansion team to the bay. they are excited >> this summer we went out to arizona and we went to the phoenix mercury game. she love today. it was good. pretty excited to be here in town.

>> reporter: a night of big dreams for young girls throughout the bay >> that looks super fun. paul is standing by, i know, a fellow basketball fan who can appreciate that and you know the bay area is a good place to play basketball outside wherever possible. >> right. you get the practice dealing with the wind, frequently in the bay area. less than two weeks until warriors opening night. let's take a look at the big picture pattern. warming up, back to near or slightly above temperatures on thursday. it is kind of a one day thing. we will see more cloud cover building back in on friday. an outside chance of a shower or two north of the golden gate. the clouds will result in cooler temperatures and it is going to chip away at how much solar electricity we are generating? you see the numbers consistent from today to tomorrow. a lot of sunshine. the numbers drop across the board for the end of the workweek on friday. for the moment, clear skies, not even a hint of fog as we look out. the temperatures largely dropped back down into the 50s. down to 53 degrees in livermore. still,

at or above 60 degrees in concord, oakland. that is temporary. we will see mostly 50s on the map by early tomorrow morning, some of the cooler spots in the north bay valley that collect the cooler air will dip all of the way down into the middle to upper 40s and likely down to the upper 40s. livermore, four more degrees to go. a bit on the cool side. we will make up for time heading through the day tomorrow. looking at the forecast highs for thursday. right around what is normal for this time of the year. a degree above average. reaching up to 80 or so. same things throughout the santa clara valley. in the lower 80s. inland, upper 70s. 80 degrees for redwood city, half-moon bay warming up, back into the upper half of the 60s. lower to middle 70s. the numbers almost exactly average for the middle of october. the temperatures inland in the north bay. they will be warm as well. comfortably warm for this time of the year. lower 80s. cooler. you have the best chance of dipping down into the lower 40s

in petaluma. one of the cooler spots collecting more of the cooler air. talking about the clouds approaching and the outside chance of maybe a shower. we will look at future cast heading through the next couple of days, passing clouds late in the day. high up in the atmosphere, the more substantial cloud cover starts to move in thursday night. we will see a mix of clouds and sunshine to start the day on friday. there is an area of rain. largely falls apart. late in the day on friday. a chance for a couple splash and dash showers for the north bay on friday. a better chance of drizzle most likely, a few showers here and there along the coast and for the north bay. friday night into saturday. and, plenty of cloud cover out there saturday morning. why is 9:30 important time? it is is around the time that the eclipse will be peaking. technically it happens at 9:19. maximum eclipse and cloud cover. the best chance of seeing it, it looks like it will be inland in the east bay in the santa clara valley. we will keep you updated on that.

taking a look at the seven-day forecast, temperatures will peak in the inland area, retreat, heading into friday and saturday. another bump up in temperatures on sunday and then we retreat once again. up and down pattern over the next seven-days. again, the best chance of shower inland will be the north bay. inland valleys east bay likely to remain dry. around the bay, temperatures staying in the 70s. the same up and down pattern will be with us with the mix of clouds and sunshine for the next couple of days, best chance, overall, a trace of mixed drizzle saturday night into sunday. not having a huge impact on the temperatures, may wet things down a little bit for the half-moon bay art and festival. drying out for the second half of the weekend on sunday. not much change for the temperatures heading into the first week. >> thank you. it is not christmas yet, obviously, the police in one bay area city they have a grinch and he is going after

. we are approaching peak halloween decorating season and pittsburg police say this guy has been very busy loading up on decorations that belong to other people. now, the police want you to help them figure out who he is. surveillance camera caught him walking off with a skeleton that he stole from a porch. he was caught checking out another scheduleton. this one was inflatable. the same guy spotted taking off with people's amazon packages. >> he is the grinch. >> i know. >> you can't do that. >> you can't do that. also, those are very expensive. >> i know. the 49ers are
