>> u.n. says 2 million people in gaza are in need of immediate aid. 2million. today's convoy is estimated to be enough for about 20,000. >> the worsening humanitarian crisis is leading to growing pro palestinian protests across the arab world. these are just some of the demonstrations from syria, lebanon, iraq, and egypt. thousands protesting in los angeles and new york while in london, more than 100,000 demonstrators took part in the national march for palestine. calling for a cease fire and id for the people of gaza. meanwhile, the israeli military is increasing air strikes in gaza with tanks and other equipment positioned near the border. the likelihood of a ground invasion appears imminent. but israeli military officials insist they don't want to take long term control

danville for the emotional reveal. >> reporter: a family was able to escape the war in ukraine and make it to the united states. for the last year they have been looking for a place to live. they have been looking for a new apartment but not before a group of volunteers show them what it mean to be home again. it was moving day for dima's family. he, his wife, and son found this apartment in danville but it is worlds away from the ukrainian homeland they fled 18 months ago with all of their worldly possessions in three suitcases. >> i saw all of the tanks all around. all the bombing. the helicopters and all of that and i told my wife it is time to go, otherwise, we will die there. >> this way, they encountered a different kind of army. volunteers from a group called grateful gatherings. they do a kind of home makeover for people moving into a new place.

after a crisis. their clients rarely have are the the means to furnish a new apartment. >> they walk into that home with sometimes a box of personal belongings. and that's it. >> reporter: the volunteers got to work hauling in a truckload of donated furniture, new dishes, kitchen utensils, even artwork for the walls. as the crew worked furiously in every room, the only problem came when they couldn't figure out how to unscrew an unwanted piece from the coffee table. basically, they just yanked it off. >> generally, we don't do what we have to do where we force it. but we figure it out in the end. >> reporter: after two-and-a-half hours of work, the finishing touching were being applied as the excited homeowners arrived. then of course came the reveal.

>> welcome home! >> it's really home. oh my god. guys, you're amazing. >> reporter: as they toured room by room, galina was overcome by gratitude and offered on the spot to become a volunteer as a way of paying it forward. >> she has never had this, even there in ukraine. so the fact that she is going to be able to have it here in america, like, it is just yay, go. go us! like, you know. it is so amazing the community comes together like this. >> from hell to heaven. like, jump. from that most unsafe place to the most safest place in california. it's like, i don't know. it's just a miracle. it's fairy tale. what is this? it is something unbelievable. definitely. >> reporter: actually, it's called the american dream. where a new place to live only

becomes a home because of the welcome you receive when you get there. >> grateful gatherings averages about two apartment furnishings a week across the bay area. clouds hanging over parts of the bay area all day. darren peck is here to tell us about maybe some rain on the way? >> tomorrow through the morning and the afternoon and just like the last few storms, this one will be focused in the north bay. if you look at first alert doppler live, you see the showers are out there. it will take several hours before our showers arrive and the prime time is right there. so this gets us into the 9:00 hour tomorrow morning. and you can see a good bulls eye here of the more widespread rain. that looks better now than it did just 12 hours ago. certainly 24 hours ago in the forecast model. so if you are just checking in, or you have been playing along on this one, the rain for the far north bay looks a little more impressive. some of the totals get up over

half an inch. maybe three quarter of an inch. most of it falls in this window. that is just one part of this. once the main line moves through the northern third of sonoma and napa, we get into the second phase. isolated popup showers, which could work their way easily south of the golden gate. so it is the early afternoon, when everybody from the golden gate south would have their chance to get some rain on this. probably not going to be a lot on that, but there is the possibility for some. we will look at this in the first alert forecast and look ahead to the next system trying to get in here later in the week. see you in a bit. >> thanks darren. family and friends of emma rose walker gathered in san rosa to remember the 17-year-old killed in a car crash last weekend. three

>> san francisco make some noise! >> reporter: the noise about san francisco has been anything but positive. in recent years. a struggling downtown with businesses closing. rampant drug dealing in the tenderloin along with homelessness and car break-ins plaguing the city. >> i think the narrative is lazy. i think it is easy to say this is the worst part of the city. let's highlight that. but they are not highlighting the best parts of the city. >> reporter: monica is an sf artist who has partnered with the it all starts here sf

campaign. she and a team of volunteers are using art to highlight the mission district. >> there is always so much color. smells, food, taste. and i really wanted to bring that to life here in this mural. >> reporter: artists from 11 san francisco districts are showcasing each district's unique qualities in this festival to kick off the civic pride campaign. it all starts here. sf funded mostly by two local billionaires. >> this is not marketing or sweeping our problems under the rug. this is about bringing folks together. showing the nation we always come back. >> reporter: organizers will be buying and running ads and local traditional media and social media in the coming days. the ad highlights san francisco as an innovative and creative hop that has changed the world. >> that launched railroads, electric streetcars. >> reporter: they are tackling

crime to restore law and order. >> part of what we have to do with a campaign like this is to ensure safety. >> reporter: some businesses have shut down citing retail crime. but others are still investing in the city like ikea. shotomate opened a huge rooftop restaurant this weekend. >> get people excited in san francisco. part of it is you have to counter some of the negativity with some of the positivity and what's going on. >> reporter: as for monica, she is optimistic. san francisco will make a comeback. >> i think it is still a world class city and it is up to us and the people who come to visit to take care of this place as if we do love it. >> reporter: some say while it is great to boost people's morale, the real solution to fixing san francisco's image is to clean up the streets and bring businesses back to downtown. >> san francisco is set to receive a million dollars in funding to make bikes more accessible to students in the city. the money will help

expand ymca youth bike program to schools across san francisco. >> this is such a wonderful program. we know we are trying to get more and more people out of their cars in the bikes, in the walking. it will make a huge impact on our greenhouse gases. >> the program hopes the funding will bring bicycle availability, maintenance, and safety education to kids for at least the next ten years. mayor matt mahan laid out his plan for san jose in his first state of the city address. the main focus was on crime and making san jose a beacon for safety in the bay area. >> this year, we pushed hard to maintain san jose's status as the safest big city in the bay area and put ourselves on the path to being the safest big city in america once again. >> before his speech, there were several cultural performances. the mayor also gave out awarding for people

caltrans shut down the guadeloupe parkway in san jose. they are fixing the pavement for ride quality and safety. caltrans recommends detours either east to 101 or west to 17. everything will reopen monday morning at 5:00. and caltrans will not be running between millbrae and menlo park tomorrow. they shut down that part of the tracker all weekend to continue to work on their electrify case project. officials say the years of closures will be worth it in the end calling it a once in a generation project that will drastically improve the system. >> we are talking cleaner, greener, faster, more efficient. more comfortable. >> he announced plans to remove diesel locomotives and hope to have the first of the electric trains rolling by fall of next year. well, it was sunny and 90

degrees earlier this week. and now we are going to have cooler temperatures and rain. >> we will get locked into more of a fall pattern. and it starts tonight. we will keep the rain around through about the first half of the day tomorrow. there could be a couple of opportunities coming our way. the sky showed the change happening. look at the gorgeous time lapse we captured. look at those clouds. a very unique tail in the clouds. we call that a mackerel sky because it looks like the fish scales on a mackerel. those are alto cumulus clouds going in a wave pattern like this. and where the wave sinks, the cloud evaporates. where the cloud rises, it forms. that is a forecast tool. when you see a mackerel sky like that, one of the sayings is mackerel sky, less than 24 hours dry. and sure enough, there is rain coming in less than 24 hours. let's switch from that time

lapse and go to the first alert doppler. you can see the showers well off the northern coast. they can see the showers showing up. i'm getting here in the morning hours. we might see a few light showers a little after midnight. but it is really right there. let's play this a little bit further ahead. it is not just the north bay rain. pretty good totals. maybe three quarters of an inch of rain tomorrow through the morning and early afternoon in the north bay. here is when everybody else gets in on the act. isolated scattered showers cropping up here or there across much of the rest of the bay. there is not a lot to that. but the possibility is there for any part of the bay to get a shower. and in the north bay, where you get that kind of impressive line coming through, you could see this come in the form of an isolated thunderstorm. not high odds on that, but it is still a possibility. if you look at the big picture, look where this signature shows up in the rain. right here on the very northern edge of the bay where some of the best rain will be. and it

is right on the line. if it shifts a little bit, this could become a different story in terms of rainfall amounts. here is where the latest rainfall totals are. it is a lot more than it looked like it could be this morning in the forecast. now the numbers get a lot lower as you go further south. once we get south of the golden gate, they are not all that impressive at all. but you have at least the chance for a couple of hundredths of an inch of rain to show up. that is tomorrow's rain. it is done by the evening then the next one tries to get in from up here. watch what happens. a little sneaky system comes down from the gulf of alaska. right there. too far inland. that will cool us down. but i don't think we get rain out of that one. that one comes in. that timing is for next saturday. so there is about a 10% chance of rain next saturday. a little teally on that. it is starting to revolve in the models. you

will see the cooler air by friday and saturday. the temperatures go down. we are not going back to any more of the big warmups like we had earlier in the week. there's tomorrow as a good example. low to mid 70s . seven day forecast shows you after that chance of rain, we get a little bit of a bump for the temperatures monday. north bay, low to mid 70s . a look at that occasional strike of lightning in the north bay tomorrow. we will stay in the mid 70s for san jose much of the week. and the numbers for the inland east bay to 80. mid 70s as we get toward friday and saturday. matt, over to you. coming up in sports, san jose state got back on track at home facing a conference opponent. plus, an injury update on the 49ers ahead of their meeting with the vikings on monday night football. san francisco, a little

when the 49ers take on the minnesota vikings, a couple of major stars will be missing. the vikings are down, star wide receiver justice jefferson. on saturday, wheeler in one of the key offensive weapons for the niners will be out as well. deebo samuel ruled out with a shoulder hairline fracture. kyle shanahan will miss at least two games. trent williams is doubtful monday for his ankle injury. but there is some positive news. christian mccaffrey practiced saturday and is questionable. the head coach was happy to have his starting back on the field. >> it was god good to have him out there today. we got to make sure he can go into the game on monday and feel real good. >> it would be hard to top what stanford was able to do last week in its epic comeback win

over colorado in boulder but this week, it was back to business at home. homecoming night on the farm. tough test against a ranked ucla team. first quarter, cardinal down a touchdown. and what a day for bruins running back. carson steele. barrels into the end zone to put ucla up 14. second quarter, the bruins simply could not be stopped. the run game was great. steel drives in his third thursday touchdown of the half. ucla goes onto win big time. 42-7. stanford hosts washington next week. brent brennon looking to get back to 500 in mountain west play. robinson on bootleg puts the spartans up early. robinson rushed for over 100 yards and cordero, what a dime, 21 yards to nick nash on third and long. 42-21. they are now 3-5

when a team from the nl west is making a push for the world series, we are used to it being the giants or the dodgers but the snakes from arizona are knocking on the door. they are trying to build off the momentum of two straight home wins saturday night. phillies fans showing out in the desert. series tied at 2-2. and fireworks in the first inning. stott tries to steal. harper is ruled safe. second look, ball was out before contact was made. phillies lead 2-0 after one. still a two-run game in the sixth. but that is when the phillies bats got hot. when kyle scharber makes contact, he leaves little doubt. this was 461 feet. phillies win 6-1. now it heads back to the city of

wow, that was a big spectacle in downtown san jose. wrestlers battling it out in a full sized ring as part of a dio de los muertos celebration. the san jose festival celebrates family, mexican culture and arts and featured plenty of local vendors with traditional day of the dead artwork. >> i promise this is going to happen. >> historic day for bay area rap icon e40. he was honored with his own street name. a
