china. in this case he didn't mean to. from kpix this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. hi, i'm juliette goodrich in for sara donchey tonight. we are unpacking one effort wildest police chases we have seen in awhile. a random assault at a church, it ended with a bomb robot, combing the suspect's car. they lobbed a pair of pipe bombs at them when they took off. diving into the suspect's background and this is what we found out. this is far from a brush with the law. it is not the first time he has been accused of blowing things up. our betty yu is at the north beach church where it all started. betty? >> this is where all of it began. the suspect participated

in the mass and demanded money from and attacked a parishioner before leaving with an unopened folding knife. san francisco police said what happened after communion inside of this church on sunday was brazen and dangerous. >> the suspect then violently assaulted this parishioner, pushing him in the head. we believe the parishioner went unconscious temporarily. the suspect kept demanding money from this parishioner. the parishioner did not know the suspect. thankfully many of the parishioners who were inside of the church came to the aid and to the rescue. >> reporter: on monday, heavily armed officers were seen going into a concord home linked to the suspect. identified as 42-year-old daniel garcia. he is facing several charges including attempted murder, evading the police, aggravated assault and explosive-related charges. >> we saw the two cop cars went down jones, high rate of speed.

did not have their lights on. >> reporter: he witnessed part of the police chase where the suspect threw the first of the two explosive devices on sunday >> it was a loud report, really short. just, bam, and then everybody came out of their apartments from what it looked like what was going on. unusual >> quiet neighborhood. but for a few crazy people up on the corner we don't really see much of anything up here. >> reporter: the second device was tossed at 8th and mission. he led the officers on a 30 minute chase where he was arrested on sunday. >> reporter: neighbors stated that he was not a good neighbor. in may of this year garcia was arrested on domestic violence charges and being a felon in possession of a firearm. court records show he was arrested and convicted by a federal grand jury in 2012. for

. back here in san francisco new security cameras near place near a pro-palestinian mural that has been vandalized twice in four days. the artwork that said stop the genocide in gaza now was altered by hamas. earlier someone scrawled the words "stop hate" over the painting, the artist told us the people responsible do not care about the history of violence against palestinians. >> they don't want to tell our story. they are not, they are happy with hearing that palestinians are dying. they don't really care. i know the people who are writing this feel like that. >> chris says he will repaint the mural as many times as he

has to. the owner of the building who commissioned it hopes the cameras will keep it in tact. alameda police and the school district are trying to figure out how several kids left a pta-sponsored halloween event with cannabis-infused halloween candy. the police put out these images showing regular fruit chews on the left and infused one on the right. that is the type four families found in their kid's candy haul at the event at amelia earhart elementary this weekend. unclear how they got there. the district is urging families to throw out all of the candy from that event and the police chief says it is a good reminder to all parents to check what kids bring home tomorrow. >> parents should be dill gent.

diligent. you want to look for opening wrappings, things that look suspicious. a lot of the labels are similar to regular traditional candies. but, you have to look close. look at the ingredients to see if there is any indication that these candies contain cannabis. >> the police are trying to figure out if the cannabis candies were mixed in accidentally or intentionally. all right, let's take you to san jose where a new roof top restaurant is getting a lot of attention. look at the line. it is the new restaurant. it was literally a journey from the initial idea to opening night. >> reporter: well, the owners ever the new restaurant travel through mexico that when you came into the restaurant you would open the doors and you would get to experience real authentic mexican food. their secret weapon? a chef they met

along the way. >> what we are trying to do is evoke some of the culture and architecture that we found on our trips to mexico. >> reporter: the owners of the newest restaurant in willow ground traveled. they found one of their chefs in their travels >> weigh talked to him asking him if he might know people interested that might help open up the restaurant. heed, what about me? >> reporter: he just moved to san jose this year with his family to be a part of the new project. he says his family is adjusting well. he says people can expect authentic mexican food but also modern. some of it involves his grandmother's traditions.

. we want to get to breaking news out of riverside county where a fast-moving fire forced 4,000 people out of their homes. the highland fire is burning about 20 miles east of temecula. it blew up in less than 12 hours and damaged nine buildings so far. a one of a kind property just hit the south bay. a clothing optional resort. loop and lodge in the hills is one of the oldest naturalist resorts in the country. well, the owner gave dah lin a tour. >> reporter: we first came to the nudist resort almost four decades ago when she was 19 and a student at uc santa cruz. now, the owner and operator of

loop and lodge. >> she is incredibly beautiful here, the nature spectacular. and, also, the community is very, very special. >> it is also the place she met her husband, glen. he passed in 2015. she has been working to preserve one effort oldest nudist resorts >> this was originally a winery that was closed down. and, in 1935 the naturists founded it. >> reporter: the resort hosted a number of national nudist conferences. and even a kpix people are talking episode in the '80s on the topic of, what else, nudity. >> welcome to a very unusual addition of "people are talking." >> the resort is up for sale. it breaks her heart. 61-year-old lori says her health is failing. >> the oldest business in the chamber of commerce. it is sals the oldest nudist facility west of the mississippi. i am the

bit. more clouds late in the week and we are going to bring in a chance of showers in the forecast by the weekend. we will talk about that in a moment. let's switch perspectives and look at downtown san francisco. the temperatures a mix of 40s and 50s as of 11:00 p.m. but for that, san francisco itself, barely below 60 degrees hold on to a little bit of warmth. later on tonight, san francisco, along with everybody else, dropping down to the 40s the warmest spots staying around 50 degrees, coolest spots in the north bay valleys dipping around to 40. high temperatures tomorrow, they are going to end up above average. just a matter of how far above average. a good eight degrees, all of the way up to 80 degrees in san jose, just short of 80 degrees in morgan hill. inland, delta, not as warm as other inland spots, upper 70s in fremont and redwood city. upper 60s in half-moon bay, temperatures in oakland, a few degrees above normal. middle

70s for oakland. inland, the north bay, you will be warmer, getting up to around 80 degrees, that is a lot of work that the sunshine will be doing considering how cool you will start off tomorrow morning. santa rose a starting off at 40 and ending up at 80. adding full four degrees to our day. the forecast for the kids is the trick or treat forecast. let's take a look. kids before the sun goes down, mild. everyone's temperatures drop off 8:00 or so everyone will be within a degree or two on either side of 60. the rain chance, days five and six of your saturday and sunday. the long-range forecast models having disagreements about how things are going to shape up. what they agree on is best chance of rain will stay north.

northern california. now, american forecast model brings in widespread rain on saturday already. the european model has showers, the second one, them in the second half of next week. we look at where you take the forecast models and run them dozens of times and the average of those results gives us this kind of map, indicating potential for if the rain shapes up 1/10th of an inch in most locations and farther north you go picking up a little bit of rain. let's take a look at the forecast over the next seven-days, temperatures peaking on wednesday. it is a gentle cool down heading through the rest of the workday and the weekend. a chance of
