[ screaming ] ♪ . from kpix this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. hi, i'm juliette goodrich in for sara donchey. tonight may be halloween but in the castro district the party has been going on for four days. for the first time in 17 years. they used to be huge until 2006 when a fight erupted in gunfire shutting down the celebration. it was a different scene tonight. >> reporter: the crowds in the castro are festive and lively. yet, imaginable. something that long time businesses and residents say they welcomed.

edward scissor hands, a mignon, multiple barbie's flooded the castro. we ran into this family who just wrapped up trick or treating with their tradition, a stop at hot cookie. >> four or five years ago it was not as lively as it is now. i think people are resurgence of hope is coming back for the castro for halloween. i love all of the people, i love that the stores are open. i am loving all of the activity. >> reporter: several restaurants and bars were bustling. organized by the castro merchandise association. >> i graduated high school in 1987. from '83 onwards this was the spot. >> reporter: in its heyday halloween in the castro was a massive party in the streets. the city and organizers shut it down after a mass shooting in 2006 that injured nine people. lizzy has lived in the city for 30 years and used to attend the

[ laughter ] >> reporter: the pledge to spend over $100,000 to reimburse merchants that hosted the events. owner of a popular bay area ice cream chain says the crime at her store is being investigated as a hate crime. they spray painted free palestine on the jewish-owned store. today it will reopen when repairs are complete. as for the hate crime allegation we reached out to the police to ask them about that. they did not respond back to us. so far, no arrests. tonight, the fbi, homeland security are sounding the alarm about growing threats to jewish, muslim, arab-american communities since the israel israel-hamas war began. >> we have seen that with the individual we arrested last week in houston who was studying how to build bombs and posted on line about his

more aid to reach gaza, israeli prime minister -- prime minister benjamin netanyahu is saying it is war. a gruesome discovery, a body found stuffed in a suitcase. a group of volunteers saw the suitcase floating about 6 feet from the shore this morning and haul today out with nets. and that is when they discovered a man's body. no word on who he was or who may have killed him. meanwhile, oakland's mayor says luring more and more cars downtown with cheaper parking might curb crime. a new program called 5 after 5 is in place at the frank line plaza garage. a $5 fee after 5:00 on weekday and all day on weekends. the garage will be monitored by city ambassadors and surrounding streets will get extra lighting. the idea is bringing more visitors in will drive

you look out in the pacific you can see what the systems are starting to look like. active out here. when you put the in the future cast and we watch the progression of the storms, it, the first one that comes in on thursday does not really look like it gets far enough south. so, what we are going to do while you admire the beauty of the satellite image i will give the weather computer a knock. it does not want to advance my maps, the takeaway on the systems, most of them are going too far north. so, we lose out on the chance for rain for this first one on thursday. then, when we get to the saturday system that one looks like it will be able to get in here and deliver. that is thursday. boy, that looks good. and then watch it disappear. nothing. so, the big picture shows you the accumulation of rain. that will be up on the far northwest part of the state. maybe a drop or two in the north bay by the time we get to thursday afternoon. that will be it from that one. the next one on saturday. it does

have better aim and is going to be fed by a weak atmospheric river. it will have a descent amount of moisture to work with. most of the best dynamics are going too far north for us. it looks good for us on saturday. right here. and even as we go into saturday afternoon and the folk thus is through the north bay. we might get perhaps as much as half an inch of rain. it is just for saturday now and this is a little too early to put exact numbers on it. especially if the models have been wobbling around a little bit. consistent for the last 18 hours. in all of the forecast runs in that time period. you get half an inch of rain for parts of north bay. now, in the last run just wanted to bring it down a little bit. we looked at the day time highs, we will say good-bye to the forecast imagery. i want to bring in the seven-day forecast. you will see the drop of rain on there for saturday and sunday. saturday's rain, the most impressive, sunday, still has a
