practicing in east oakland over the summer. they had to hit the ground and it did not happen once but twice in one week. not having a safe place to play really cast a lot of uncertainty over their season. the team did not let that put an end to it. after an extensive search they found a permanent practice field. as andrea nakano reports they have a victory that is more exciting to celebrate. >> let's go get ready to play. >> reporter: the east bay panthers have a new home field tucked away at madison park academy closed off to the public. in late august there were two violent shootings in a span of a week at carter park. coaches decided it was too unsafe to play. anthony ray started playing football at the aiming of eight and glad the season kept going >> i am grateful to be here now, i am grateful that nobody on the team was injured or shot

or anything like that. >> reporter: players say they definitely feel safer on their new field even though there are some minor issues with the surface. >> it is all right. >> i don't really like the field. there is a lot of poop around because of the geese. it is kind of dry. the grass is pretty dry. but, i am not complaining. at least we have a field to be at. >> reporter: for weeks the panthers did not have a field, coaches even help them go to the games >> coaches bring them here and some coaches sacrifice their jobs to be with them. >> reporter: the hard work by all played off. the boys will compete for the league championship this weekend. >> all about these young men that came and sacrificed everything they could, came over adversity and kept

grinding away. >> i am excited. it will be my first ring. this is my second year playing tackle football. >> you are saying first ring. you know you are going to win [ laughter ] >> reporter: for these kids it is not just about what they hoped to accomplish there weekend and this season they have dreams of playing division 1 football after high school. >> it means a lot to me. i want to take football to another level. i don't want to stay where i am at. the teams plays a championship game in sacramento. a bay area arts and crafts store. three people were hospitalized after someone set off a can of bear spray. medics checked out 69 people who were in the store. some said they had watery eyes, trouble

breathing, irritated skin. we don't know if it was accidental or intentional. a scary scene. three boats burst into flames at the oyster point marina. four people had to be rescued. one person taken to the hospital. firefighters contain today in a couple hours and kept the fire from spreading to the marina. the burned boats are a loss. obvious from looking at them. firefighters used these booms to surround the rest of the boats to prevent oil from spreading. they are looking into what started this fire. for nearly a month they lived in constant fear of being bombed. tonight, that nightmare is over for a pressureious precious few who got to leave gaza. they have been able to cross into egypt. the state

department says 400 u.s citizens are still trying to get out of gaza. more americans and their families are expected to leave tomorrow. for the palestinians who can not leave, and there are many. a humanitarian disaster only seems to be growing. strikes driven people from their homes, conditions in hospitals are so bleak, some can not function any more. >> no water. no food. no shelter. nothing, nothing. we open our eyes on dead people and we close our eyes on the people. >> this man you see here lost his whole family, he says, 15 of them. he wrote their names on a paper saying they were innocent. as israel continues the ground assault inside of gaza its military reported that at least 16 of its shoulders had been killed in the past 24 hours of fighting. last week we told you about an alaska airlines pilot from pleasant hill who was arrested for trying to disable the engines on a san francisco-bound flight while he was off duty. it turns out that

another pilot from northern california is accused of another disturbing crime in the cockpit, this time he was working. it happened in august of 2022, but the details are only just coming out now. here is what we know. jonathan dunn was working as the first officer on a delta airlines flight when he allegedly threatened to shoot the captain if they diverted the flight for a passenger's medical needs. he lives north of sacramento. when all of this happened he was allowed to legally carry a gun in the cockpit as a federal flight deck officer. >> we adopted it in the wake of september 11 to try to provide a last line of defense for the cockpit. we also put air marshals in planes on random chance. >> reporter: flight deck officers undergo thorough background checks, psychiatric evaluations and 16 hours of training before they are allowed to carry a gun in the cockpit. he was indicted on one

. people out eating pizza at a restaurant in hollywood had a close encounter with a celebrity so close that it was dangerous. a truck plowed into the pizza joint and the person behind the wheel, allen ruck. it left a hole on the side of the building. four cars are involved in the initial crash, one person was hurt and is expected to be okay. it has been almost 25 years since the chilling murders of four yosemite sightseers, a case that attracted national attention and ended with a

bizarre twist. we dug through our archives from 1999 when kerry staneer was suspected in the murders. sitting down with a fbi agent when he got him to confess. >> her son, her daughter julie and their friend vanished in february of 1999. weeks later, carol and the friend's body were found in their charred rental car down a cliff >> we have recovered two bodies from the trunk of the vehicle. >> where was julie? the killer sent the fbi this hand drawn map with a chilling message. we had fun with this one. it showed a trail from highway 120 with an x along ashore of don pedro reservoir where the investigators discovered julie's body. months later, the killer struck again. be heading naturalist joy armstrong in yosemite >> i will be honest and not hold anything back. >> reporter: then, the fbi special agent was sent to talk to a potential witness in the

cases. kerry stanner. a handyman at the cedar lodge, a hotel where the sightseer stayed. he was at the nudist colony. >> he convinced him to ride with him to the fbi office. >> during that time we got to know each other. >> you ultimately gained his trust in a short period of trim. >> i don't judge people so when they talk to me they feel comfortable. >> reporter: that connection got him to confess to killing joey armstrong. before admitting to killing the sightseers, he said that he tried to negotiate. he wanted images of young girls, his family to get the reward money and to end up in a federal prison near his family. he recalls asking him to pick one. >> what is the one thing t is the one thing only and he chose the pornography. >> reporter: he did not get any of his requests but confessed to killing the sightseers

saying he planned the attacks for more than a year. and it was bothering him that julie's body was laying out in the elements and not being found. >> he was convicted and sentenced to death. >> what is valuable to me is helping the families. >> he is now 62 and behind bars at san quentin. he has never been charged in other cases. it is the day of the dead, when people in mexico and other parts of latin america honor loved ones they lost. as jocelyn moran tells thus is far from sober. >> i would like to think that what we do in this life that we take with us to the afterlife and we continue to do. if we love to go, like a giants fan,

to honor them. and a time that many people hope to reconnect with them. all right, we are starting to feel the cold yet again. darren is monitoring that and the rain. everything is noticing it is chilly. i have been hearing from people in the north bay and elsewhere. it is heater time now. >> it came on quick. everybody is, i think, the transition to that idea. now looking behind me, a clear night out there. looking out from our roof top. with the clear skies and low humidities the numbers are going back down again. so, think back to what it was like again last night. similar to that tonight and you can see the temperatures in the south bay it will be in the lower to middle 40s. topping out, we are going to bottom out at 39 in liver more. you will stay relatively warmer near the water. san francisco, and, half moon bay. look at the north bay, check out the number. you

got to go back down to the 30s again this morning. it will get cold up there. so will santa rosa. your numbers will dip back to the upper 30s as well. those are typically the places where the numbers have been getting the lowest. the morning lowing and let's get into the story of this chance of rain coming our way as we approach the weekend. first system actually comes through tomorrow. tomorrow, we are not changing at all. day time highs tomorrow, identical to what you did today. that means middle to upper 70s bay area wide. you will notice a few clouds from a system that falls apart. you see that? a lot of rain. it just disolves before it goes away. we will focus on the leading edge. the moisture showing up on the front end of

the system. one of the better chances of rain. that is coming in on saturday morning. another one saturday afternoon. so, we will not get too hung up in the timing of saturday's rain or how much we might get but to say it will not be a lot. there is a chance on saturday, pretty much at any point. if we look at the latest forecast model runs on this, just to see what the consensus is, the numbers are low and getting lower, maybe 1/10th of an inch of rain in the north bay. it will not be a significant rain should we get it. and that is basically our one chance. if we check out the seven-day forecast we will see how this looks going across the numbers over the next few days, it is, it is, it is the one chance of two. there is another one by the time we get into early next week. so, we already talked about this chance. sunday, maybe, there is a drop left over. look back here, tuesday, another system coming in. what is really

. if you are still getting over your halloween hang over, snap out of it. the holidays are here. the ice rink is up and running for the season. we checked it out today right before the grand opening, i have seen this for years but i have never been on the ice there. i am curious. vern, you tried a lot of different sports on camera. >> i have been on that ice. i did a half-hour sports slow on that ice. just slipping and sliding going all over the place. but, i tell you this. down the road from that rink, the warriors were trying to put the sacramento kings on ice. man. what a thriller. something about the sacramento kings that brings out the best in the warriors, another i-80, hold on to something classic finish. taking you to chase center. the

never lost a playoff road game that is world series win number 4 for bruce bochy. >> they could of got down, they went to tampa, put that be side them and just got after it. and it is incredible to do what they did. that is what we talked about how tough a group there is. how resilient they are. they inspire me with how resilient they are. >> this happens on the day, 13 years ago, bochy won the 2010 world series with the giants at the rangers. now, baseball hall of fame they are clearing space for bochy. he is the sixth manager to win four or more world series, only three more have more than him. he was like a kid again was dancing around at age 68. >> a lot of people were happy for him here in san francisco.
