day feeling again. >> darren peck will have the forecast. good evening, i'm brian hackney. >> i'm andrea nakano. the santa clara county sheriff's office is investigateing the hit and run of an arab muslim student as a potential hate crime. it happened friday afternoon on campus. betty yu is in palo alto with the very latest. >> authorities are investigating a hit and run that injured an arab muslim student that happened near this round about on the stanford campus as a possible hate crime. the santa clara county sheriff's office has taken over the investigation from the chp. police said the victim told investigators the driver made contact and accelerated and struck the victim. >> i think what happened yesterday was a shock. but in a

way expected. there have been warning signs that there will be escalation in the violence targeted toward arab and muslim students on campus. >> the victim sustained non-life threatening injuries. the suspect was described as a white man in his mid 20s with short dirty blond hair, a short beard, and round framed glasses. he was driving a black toyota 4 runner. alicia service and peyton draper are not palestinian but have been supporting the sit-in protest by student s. thaw have been camping out in stanford's why plaza two weeks. >> we are sad our friend is hurt. and where this type of thing can happen. >> reporter: since the start of the israel hamas war, the council on israel economic relations reported a spike in

islamophobic and antipalestinian rhetoric. and a pike in antisemitic everyone dents across the country. >> i'm jewish and i don't want to invalidate the people experiencing anti-semitism. but my personal experience has been that i have been harassed. i have had aggressive actions taken against me and it has always been because of my participation at the sit-in or because i am sitting next to arab and muslim students. >> reporter: the students here say they want stanford to take a stronger stance in condemning islamophobia. the university president sent this message to the campus community friday stating they are profoundly disturbed to hear this report of hate based physical violence on their campus.

>> it is safe to say people feel abandoned? >> protest marchs from london to berlin demanding an immediate halt to a bombing of israeli gaza. jets strike a refugee camp israel time. thousands of demonstrators filled freedom plaza near the national mall and the white house. >> tens of thousands of people marched down market street to city hall. john ramos continues our coverage from there. >> it has been four weeks since the attacks by hamas started all this and the demonstrations have only gotten larger. the question now is whether it will have an impact on u.s. lawmakers and united states policy. another week, another mass demonstration over the

blinken continues to urge israel for humanitarian pause. as the death toll in gaza now tops 9,000. but prime minister benjamin netanyahu says he won't consider any pause until hamas releases the hundreds of hostages they are still holding. >> israel's right to defend itself and to take necessary steps so that october 7th can never happen again. but it is also very important the way israel does that. to protect human life. prevent civilian casualties. as well as to ensure that those who are in need have the assistance they need. >> thousands of israelis took to the streets to demand action. outside the prime minister's house, demonstrators clashed with police as a recent poll shows more than three quarters of israelis want

netanyahu to resign. stay up to date with everything happening. on kpix.com an streaming on the cbs news app. let's turn our attention to the weather as we are monitoring the chance of rain any time between now and monday. first alert meteorologist darren peck is here with the details. >> and you know, the rain will always grab the headline. it might rain, but what might be the bigger issue is that sunny and 80-degree day you have been living with the past week or so, today was the last one of those. this is a cold front coming through tomorrow. another one coming through on monday. they will cool us down. not terribly so. but definitely no more 80s . i will show you the number ins a second. if we look at first alert doppler, a few light showers off the coast. that is pretty much exactly what the futurecast sees from now through the morning. every once in a while, maybe a stray light band of rain comes across mostly the north bay. and then tomorrow in the afternoon, maybe a few

showers elsewhere. that's it. that's the whole thing for sunday. monday's rain looks a little more impressive. we will play that all the way through. for now, back to you. now to the north bay where santa rosa police arrested luis gustavo arroyo lopez for allegedly decapitating his grandmother. police have been searching for him thursday since officers found the gruesome team. neighbors are in shock saying it is a peaceful neighborhood and one resident we spoke to said they might have witnessed the victim's final encounter with her killer. >> i paused over here with my dog. because i didn't know who this guy was. just to make sure my neighbor knew who he was.

they were just talking. then the door closed and i thought oh: she knows the guy. >> police say they found him in san francisco and he was recently released from state prison for assault with a deadly weapon and on weapons possession charges. still aled tonight at 11:00, why latinx residents rallied outside nancy pelosi's san francisco home this morning. >> then we will hear from people in one oakland neighborhood fed up with people at an encampment. people in an rv say they are not the problem.

activists descending on nancy pelosi's house. they are upset with what they call her disregard for human rights at the u.s. mexico border. last month, the biden administration overrode laws in southern texas to allow border wall construction there. protesters want pelosi to condemn that and to reinstate a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented people that already are here. people living in a neighborhood just north of uptown oakland say they are fed up with the increased crime . it turned into a chop shop for car thieves. there are about 20 people living under the bridge. the people dumping the cars are outsiders. >> it is becoming a nuisance in

a neighborhood. >> the councilwoman released a statement saying they are working to address safety concerns in the area. bad news for east bay drivers. southbound 680 will remain closed tomorrow. specifically between the 580 connector and pleasanton. and highway 84. while crews repave the roadway. the closure began yesterday at 9:00. and it won't be open until monday morning at 4:00. happening tomorrow, both the east and west walks of the golden gate bridge will be closed for the annual golden gate half marathon. it will be closed from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. shuttles will be available to take pedestrians and bicyclists to take the easy lot and alexander avenue from 5:00 a.m. until the last runner gets off the west side. >> have you guys noticed anything noteworthy or unusual

about the last seven days? >> it has been sunny and warm. >> yes. >> do i win? >> you win. >> okay. >> that was the correct answer. there has also been, it has been relatively dry for us. relative humidity low. ordinarily, we would be worried about fire season. but we weren't in this run. it has been a nice stretch of weather and now that is coming to an end starting tomorrow. but because it is so dry, that dry air still sitting around is going to make it a bit difficult for this first system to be able to bring us much rain. it's the second one coming after this one does the work and encounters all of this dry air sitting around. a lot of that rain is going to evaporate. what it is really doing is it is paving the way for the monday system without having an overwhelming barrier of relative humidity. much lower than what would be typical this time of year. we have a chance of light rain. you can see the showers on there falling apart. it was a little misty in the city earlier. you could have a stray

little shower that comes through. but that's not much. sunday will be cloudy. we'll have a bit of the marine layer around in the morning. i don't think we will have the same issues with fog sunday morning we had today. a fog advisory in the north bay because this little cold front will come and break that up a bit. but it will still be gray most of the day tomorrow. then we get to monday. it will also be 10 degrees cooler inland. then we get to monday and that, now, is the more impressive of the two. let's take that forward through the morning as we get into the 6:00 hour. we are getting into the monday morning commute. and 8:00, 9:00 in the morning it made its way down to the golden gate. so this will have an impact an this point in the timing for the later hours of the morning commute. not significant. the roads could get a little slick. it is not downpours or big time accumulations. by the time we go to the afternoon, we are in the phase of the system where you get plenty of breaks of

blue sky and occasional showers come through. monday should be a pretty day. still a chance of rain, but not really much. if we look at the totals, as you would expect, it is not a lot. a 10th to two tenths of an inch of rain for this to get things a bit damp. daytime highs tomorrow. back to average. but, average is 10 degrees cooler than what you did today. inland, you were all in the low 80s over here. tomorrow, you are in the low 70s . it will just be a return to reality where you should be going to the first week of november. the numbers will be on the market. two days cloudiness. we will clear it out. but we do not go back to what we have been doing. notice the daytime highs after the second cold front on

monday. it is not like we are just rebounding saying oh that's gone, let's go to sunny and 80. that's not coming back. not for the next seven days. much longer than that maybe. coming up in sports, another ranked opponent for cal. were they able to bounce back after last week's heartbreaker to usc? and the warriors road magic continued but it was in doubt late in the game. we'll explain.

the warriors are riding high after winning their first end season tournament game in franchise history. friday night also marked the fifth consecutive win for golden state. and it came down to the wire in oklahoma city. >> down to eight. getting moving at five. drive, flip, gone. >> curry's basket was initially waved off for goal tending. after review, the call was overturned because josh tutted the net before draymond green. >> it was hard for me to see the jumbotron and the replay. the little monitor they were looking at. whichever whey they call it, you have to have the evidence. that is where the doubt crept in. because i couldn't tell what camera

angles they have. thankfully, they got it right. >> college football, cal had its hands full with beau nicks and sixth ranked oregon. first quarter connects with tez johnson who takes it 48 yards to the house for the touchdown. to the second quarter. ducks were up eight. nicks finds johnson again. a 14-yard strike. oregon goes onto win 63-19. cal drops to 3-6 on the season. to pullman where the mascots had a little fun with stanford in town visiting washington state. cardinals down seven in the third quarter. justin lampson takes the direct snap and runs it in to tie the game at 7-7. a fourth quarter field goal gave the cardinal the lead. stanford get it is ball back with five minutes left and never gave it back. ashton daniels. moves the chains. washington state runs

out of time-outs. stanford goes on fourth and short on their own 49. and that sealed it. stanford runs out the clock from there and wins 10-7. the cardinal is now 3-6 this season. to hockey. makenzie blackwood in net for the sharks. might be the most overworked man in the nhl. penguins visiting the south bay. sharks still looking for their first win and it wasn't in the cards. pittsburgh wins big. sharks fall to 0-10-1. still ahead. plenty more. we have the story on the first time half marathon runner competing for much more than the love of crossing the finish line.

>> i started running the week before i signed up. i don't think i had ever ran anything above two miles. >> from the occasional jog to the 13.1 miles. the jump is hard to comprehend until you learn why veronica is running in the half marathon. >> my mom has been battling lung cancer the last three years. she has stage four lung cancer and i feel like if my body is strong and capable enough to run, i feel like i'm lucky enough to go through the pains of running and be able to build the muscle where some people like my mom could never do that, why am i not taking advantage of it? >> reporter: sophie was part of her inspiration for the run, her mom. and will be cheering her on the whole way. >> i think she was super excited. and she knows i'm a terrible runner. like i have never been into running. so she was i think really supportive and my parents are coming up on sunday. so i'm excited. they will be waiting for me at the

finish line and hopefully, we will get a good hearty lunch afterwards. >> reporter: it will not just be for finishing the half marathon, but for her fund raising efforts. >> i told myself if i was going to raise over $2,000, which we have now raised almost $7,000 and google is matching dollar for dollar which is so generous of them, then, i would chop my hair and donate it to make wigs for kids with cancer. >> reporter: a new haircut and a new hobby. she wouldn't change anything about this mission. >> through this whole journey, i think every time i reach a new accomplishment whether that is my first time running seven miles. i definitely feel emotional. i know that this is something i have never challenged myself to do. >> so awesome she has raised so much money. she doesn't have an exact time she hope to finish in, but this runner's high is so real, she is already planning to sign up for the chicago marathon. back to you guys. coming up next, how a group in redwood city is working to
