shutdown showdown. the clock is ticking down on congress to pass a measure to keep the government running. the house speaker's plan to bring his bill to the floor today. and in their own words, ex-trump allies tell georgia prosecutors how the former president allegedly planned to stay in power. well, good morning and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green, and we start with the worsening hospital situation in gaza. israel says hamas uses the medical facilities as command centers and they released video from inside a children's hospital they say proves their point. the israeli military showed off a stockpile of weapons, a motorcycle purportedly used in the october 7th attack, and rooms where they believe some of the hostages were initially held. the israeli defense minister says hamas has lost control of the gaza strip as we see a photo showing the ids ghailani brigade

occupying the palestinian parliament in gaza city. the security is being beefed up in our nation's capitol as well for the israeli march for the rally. 10,000 are expected to attend. tina kraus starts off in london. >> the territory's health sector is in the state of complete collapse. the state of the health ministry is in a state of complete collapse. the largest hospital in gaza with no service with winter moving in and time running out to save lives. gaza's largest hospital pushed to the brink while caught in crossfire just outside its doors. inside doctors work in the dark with no power. the hospital says several patients including premature babies have died and there's a race against time to save the others. israel's military says it's trying to facilitate the delivery of incubators to the hospital. >> our war is against hamas, not against the people in gaza, especially not the sick. >> reporter: israel defense

forces accuse hamas of using hospitals for command centers and patients for shields. the idf released video showing weapons and tunnels used by hamas under a children's hospital, and this one walking outside the hospital with a weapon. yesterday president biden told reporters he hopes israel will take less intrusive actions with regard to the shifa hospital. doctors there are calling for their roughly 600 patients to be safely evacuated. thousands of civilians continue to flee the fighting in the north, only to still find hunger and no clean water in southern gaza. >> it's true that there is no food. it's true that there is no water. and actually i haven't taken a shower in five days. >> reporter: while meeting with soldiers near gaza, israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu says his country is not engaged in an operation or a round of fighting but a war to the end. qatari officials are still negotiating with both sides over

the possible deal to release hostages. the white house says it's also involved in those talks. it's believed ten americans are still being held captive including a 3-year-old whose parents were killed in the october 7th attacks. anne-marie? >> tina kraus in london. thank you so much, tina. back here at home congress has four days to act to prevent a government shutdown. today house speaker mike johnson is expected to put his stopgap measure on the house floor in a similar move that cost kevin mccarthy his speakership. shanelle kaul joins us from new york with the details on that. good morning. >> johnson's bill will be considered by the house today. that's according to a notice sent to lawmakers last night, but with lawmakers narrowly divided, johnson will need democratic support. in a last-ditch effort to prevent a government shutdown, newly elected house speaker mike johnson is proposing a two-step plan. >> there's nothing magical or

mysterious about it. it would effectively be two phases. >> reporter: the stopgap measure would extend funding through january 19th for agencies. other departments like defense and homeland security would be funded through february 2nd, but already the plan is getting pushback from some house gop hard-liners. >> i think it's a failure. >> reporter: johnson's proposal does not include steep cuts conservatives wanted to see. >> we have got to get a handle on the spending. this does nothing. this continues the pelosi policy. >> reporter: but it also doesn't include emergency aid for ukraine, israel, and the southern border, something democrats were pushing for. >> they're playing games with shutdown at this moment. i think that we ought to be able to combine ukraine and israel. there's no need for any of this. >> reporter: the last time the house tried to fund the government to prevent a shutdown, it cost kevin mccarthy his speakership.

>> house democrats are not going to pay a single right-wing ransom demand. we've not done it in the past. we're not going to do it today. >> reporter: and like last time, this plan will also bypass the house rules committee today where republicans have signaled they would not advance the bill. >> and this will be johnson's first big test as newly elected house speaker, anne-marie. if the bill does not follow the process of bypassing the house, it cannot be changed and will require two-thirds majority to pass. now, assuming the bill is approved, the senate woulding at next ahead of friday's upcoming shutdown. anne-marie? >> the clock is ticking. shanelle kaul in new york. thank you so much, chanel. an investigation is under way after a secret service agent of president biden's granddaughter opened fire on three suspected car thieves. it happened sunday outside of the home of naomi biden in the

georgetown section of washington, d.c. officials say three people tried to break into an unmarked secret service vehicle when one of the agents discharged a service weapon. no one was hit, and the suspects fled in a car. naomi biden was not outside at the time. the husband of former house speaker nancy pelosi testified against the man who is accused of attacking him with a hammer. david depape is accused of breaking into the pelosi home last year and seriously wounding paul pelosi. pelosi told jurors he knew he was in serious danger. depape wanted to kidnap nancy pelosi. he's pleaded not guilty to attempted kidnapping and assault charges. donald trump jr. took the witness stand again in the new york civil fraud trial against the trump family and their businesses. donald trump's oldest son appeared before jurors yesterday, this time as a defense witness. he said his father had incredible vision as a real estate developer. the trumps are accused of

the cause of a massive fire that shut down a busy los angeles freeway indefinitely. that from california governor gavin newsom. the fire started in two storage lots underneath interstate 10. it damaged support columns on the elevated roadway. investigators are trying to determine if one person or more were involved. the son of a former hollywood executive was charged with murder, and there are new videos in the georgia election case. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. recordings of the four in the case. that was jenna ellis telling prosecutors then white house deputy chief of staff dan scavino was unfazed that trump was running out of options to challenge joe biden's victory. trump and others have been charged with conspiring to overturn the georgia election results. the "los angeles times" says a hollywood executive's son was charged with murdering his wife and her parents. prosecutors say samuel haskell tried to get day laborers to haul away bags from his california home last week. police say the workers later opened one of the bags and found human body parts and called 911, the same day haskell was caught hauling somebody to a nearby dumpster. he was arrested after somebody rummaged through the trash bin and found a woman's torso in a trash bag. a missing colorado hiker's dog was found alive waiting next to her owner.

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. three members of an aerial dance troupe took their routine to new heights yesterday. the dancers from the vertical dance company called bandaloop performed while hanging from wires off the side of san francisco's transamerica pyramid. the building's management confirmed that the show was planned and approved. the dancers said that they wanted to convey hope in impossible times. an impromptu musical performance on a delta flight this past weekend was not very well received. >> you need to be quiet.
