anticipated meeting of the week as the bay area hosts the apex summit. the president of the u.s. and china holding discussions over the last few hours, we breakdown what this entails and what each nation stands to get out of these talks and how protesters are receiving the leaders across our region. first, let's get you caught up on the news headlines of the day. the fate of david is in the hands of the jury. accused of attacking paul pelosi with a hammer inside of her home last october. he was looking for then speaker nancy pelosi. he cried and told the jury that he went to the home as part of a bigger plot to end government corruption. if convicted, he faces life in prison. bart is getting more than $350 million over the next two years to help transit agencies avoid a fiscal cliff coming from the metropolitan transportation commission which approved the funding today. 45% of the funding distributing among bay area transit

agencies. we are tracking the rain with our first alert chief meteorologist. where is the rain right now? >> we seen some hit or miss showers so far today, the bulk of the steadiest and heaviest rain has been falling over the ocean. the difference that a little wobble makes. this system has been spinning off the coast over the last few days. all of this heavy rain would just be soaking the entire bay area. the heavy rain toward the west trends closer to the coast looking toward the south. this rain toward the south would be going in our direction as we go through the next few hours. the fact that we got there the day mostly dry so far does not mean this will continue through the afternoon and evening commutes is rain becomes likely through the next few hours. when talking about enough to cause significant flooding problems but there could be

some standing water on the side of the road with high water problems. the batch of rain lifting toward the north and dissipates with off and on showers throughout the rest of the night and likely into tomorrow morning. it's kind of an everyday other day pattern. we have off and on showers. widespread rain by late friday into friday night and lingering into saturday. the forecast really dries out sunday through the majority of the next workweek which will end on wednesday for the thanksgiving holiday that's eight days away. dry unpleasant weather patterns. from salesforce tower you see the dim conditions because of the cloud cover overhead as they are yielding too many showers. temperatures mostly in the 60s but we warm up into the 70s in the santa clara valley. later tonight we have a blanket of clouds overhead with temperatures dropping into the 50s for both locations. low to

mid 50s by early thursday morning. looking at the forecasted highs in between the scattered showers we will be a few degrees above the average around 70 degrees in the santa clara valley. mostly upper 60s inland and the east bay. 67 degrees for fremont. temperatures in the upper half of the 60s for san francisco and oakland. mid 60s in half moon bay. temperatures north of the golden gate in the mid to upper 60s in between the rain showers. when the way no wives when the rain arrives late friday lingering into at least the first half of the day on saturday there's the abrupt clearing trend . monday, tuesday, and wednesday should see plenty of sunshine with temperatures running 5-7 degrees above the average approaching thanksgiving holidays. good news for travel locally . over the next few

days we are in the unsettled weather pattern for the weather trying out for the second half of the weekend. a busy day for world leaders in the bay area, president biden and the chinese president xi jinping meeting face-to-face on the sidelines of the apex summit. demonstrators are making their voices heard. we have team coverage covering protests . let's start with our reporter inside of the center at the summit. he has details on the meeting today between president biden and xi jinping. >> reporter: the high-stakes meeting between president joe biden and president xi jinping was supposed to last about four hours but we've learned the first session went for two hours so we do not know if they are running late with the timetable could look like for

the rest of the day. this is how it began in woodside california. the two presidents greeted each other and we brought this to you live on kpix and streaming on cbs news bay area. this is the second time that they've met face-to-face and they sat down together a year ago in bali. here's what this looked like inside of the meeting, presidents flanked by a dozen senior advisors. the treasury secretary and the security of items are advisor of nassau. they are giving military communications between the white house and beijing ontrack. >> it's paramount that you and i understand each other clearly , leader to leader, without any misconceptions or miscommunication. we have to ensure the petition does not veer to conflict. >> for the two large countries turning their back on each other is not an option . it's

unrealistic for one side to remodel the other with conflict and confrontation having unbearable consequence for both sides. the business continues with the ceo summit. governor talking about how the state of california looks forward to sustainable ways of fighting climate change in the former secretary of state and current director of the institute at stanford university spoke about geopolitics and in the meantime the meeting between the president and chinese president was supposed to wrap up by now but we don't know if it's running later with the timetable of the meetings are. those negotiations will be tents and the talks will be pivotal to the relationship between the u.s. and china and for the rest of the global economy. >> we will wait to see the result of the discussion. what's next on their schedule after the meeting?

>> reporter: when the meeting wraps up we expect to hear biden have a press conference and he will talk about what transpired between the two and happening tomorrow they will speak to business leaders at the moscow center. while it appears to be handshakes and cooperation inside of a meeting between the presidents, outside, tensions are high between dueling demonstrations tensions flaring along interstate 280 in woodside. the confrontation happening while president biden and president xi jinping were meeting inside. our cameras caught at least one demonstrator being arrested. the routes were near this. jos÷ martinez joins us live from woodside. for coming to you live here on the exit.

looking at this specific moment dozens of people have gathered to express their support . many of them began to arrive around 7:00 a.m. you could see how this became a divider. as well as many chp officers who have been closed off we spoke with supporters and critics about this. >> we are welcoming him to come over here. the relationship between america and china will get better. it's better for the world, the people, the economy, and our children. >> he's here. that's why we are here. we want to tell the

world that they cannot be trusted. we must take the evil empire down. >> you are looking at what's happening here in woodside off of 280. we know a person was arrested. the details will come up at 5:00. back to you. >> a protest taking place in san francisco. there are a few agendas happening here. >> a lot of people taking the time to have their voices heard, demonstrators know that they've got an audience as world leaders are in town for the summit. a large crowd gathering outside of the consulate to protest against the chinese president xi jinping . some holding signs saying free to bed and that it belongs to tibetans. this was

near the center. tibet . many of them wrapped around the intersection holding each other's arms and signs. at one point protesters staged at daiei in at the road. eventually they marched over. >> we know the devastating effects of this suppose it free-trade. it's no surprise we've watched the land be swept up. by western governments by corporations as well. >> the protest was mostly peaceful but when delegates try to get through the intersection the protesters tried to block them. multiple officers began surrounding the delegates . one protester was

the strained relationships between the two countries. they are not friends but it is in both of their best interests to not be enemies, right? >> even when we had a clear enemy in the soviet union and the cold war , 1985 to 1988, president ronald reagan met with the general secretary gorbachev five times . we need to talk about this falling and spiraling down of you as relations. >> how will they navigate the u.s. and tran war u.s. and hamas war . >> each statement will find killing on both sides. that's standard. they will not agree to stop trading with the iranians. just after one meeting.

>> i don't think we could expect to see much progress i think the chinese have been circumspect in aiding the russians at the end of the day. they all talk a good story about respecting of the country's sovereignty. a discussion of why we are supporting russia and ukraine, and the long-term china will not be supporting russia because of course russia is a weakening power over time and china is an ascending power. there's the whole siberia thing so if you had to ask me to predicted 30 years of they would be allies again with china. >> one deal expected to come out of the meeting is about fentanyl . china is a big

producer of the ingredients to actually make fentanyl. in order for them to make the agreement the u.s. is going to have to give something up. there's going to have to be a negotiation. could you tell us about what the u.s. had to agree to do to get this crackdown on fentanyl? >> i don't have insider knowledge but we have to look at the context. they used to supply opium to the chinese. i don't think they want to be seen as selling fentanyl to the united states it's not in their interest. one other agreement that's likely to take place which is important, the military to military communications which will probably resume and i think it's critical to avoid any kind of military mishap for trigger-happy pilots out there who could do something that could lead to an inadvertent incident, i won't say war, but an incident that we have to be careful about so it's an important thing we have to think of that could come up. >> anything you are looking forward to seeing in this meeting between the presidents? >> it would be great if they agreed to meet again. it's only the first step. we have seen the downward spiral in

relations over the last couple of years. having another meeting would be useful and they will put pressure on the chinese especially in the use of economic statecraft intervention and trade and finance come all these things that are detrimental to the bay area economies. i think their concern about what we are doing to their companies. it's a mutual hostage situation, if you want, companies being treated badly by both countries. so there is room for cooperation and we could move forward. >> uc berkeley political science professor , vinod aggarwal, thank you for joining us. >> thank you, very much. bye-bye. how one expert says the war in israel could affect president biden's chances in the next election. we are
