expected to hit the roads in the skies. what you can expect before heading out. and he's back! openai is reinstating sam altman as their ceo, less than a week after his ouster. the breaking details. well, good morning and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. six and a half weeks after hamas launched its horrific terror attack on israel, there is a deal for some of the hostages to finally come home. here's what both sides agreed to. hamas will release 50 hostages in stages. israel will free 150 palestinian prisoners in their jails. and there will be a four-day pause in fighting, so more humanitarian aid can be brought into gaza. a u.s. official says three americans are expected to be among the hostages released, including abigail mor-edan who turns 4 on friday. ian lee is joining us now from london with all the overnight breaking developments.
4:32 am
>> good morning, anne-marie. this would be the first pause in the fighting since the war started roughly seven weeks ago. diplomats hope this is the beginning of many as they try to de-escalate the situation in gaza. overnight, the qatari government announced that israel and hamas agreed to a deal for a four-day cease-fire plus the release of 50 civilian women and children hostages held in gaza in exchange for some palestinian women and children currently detained in israeli prisons. the beginning of the pause in fighting will be announced within next few hours. >> we've been working on this intensively for weeks. >> reporter: in a statement, president biden said that the deal should bring home additional american hostages and that he will not stop until all of them are released. >> i want everybody back. >> reporter: 63-year-old gilad has seven relatives that are believed to be among the roughly 240 hostages that hamas took on october 7th, including his son, daughter-in-law, and young grandchildren.
4:33 am
>> imagine that your kid instead of sleeping in the bed with blanket, it's underground, deep. >> reporter: the deal will allow larger truck convoys carrying much-needed humanitarian aid, including fuel, to flow to civilians in gaza. this woman says that their lives have become tragic and she asks for god's mercy. the united nations says 1.7 million civilians in gaz are displaced and face hunger and disease. before his government agreed to the deal, israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu said the pause does not mean an end to the war, and that his country will continue to fight until absolute victory. the israeli government says that a temporary pause in fighting would be extended an extra day for every additional ten hostages hamas releases, anne-marie. >> so ian, give us a sense of the logistics here. can you explain just how the release would work? >> so today the supreme court is hearing any objections to the deal.
4:34 am
they're going to hear from people who oppose it. we're hearing that there are some. those are likely to be put aside and this deal will go through, as likely as early as tomorrow. we're hearing, according to israeli media, about 12 to 13 hostages will be released per day. and that the pause in the fighting is limited to a maximum of ten days. now, israel has released the name of 300 palestinian prisoners that could be released in this deal. now, we don't know where any of these prisoners would go. would they go to the west bank, to gaza, to a third country? but it is likely when the israelis are released, that they will go to egypt. we've seen that in past agreement. anne-marie? >> well, i know they don't celebrate thanksgiving in israel, but really, just in time for thanksgiving. ian, thank you very much. well, "cbs mornings" will have much more on the hostage deal, including analysis and an interview with national security adviser jake sullivan. that is all ahead starting at 7:00.
