news with sara donchey on cbs news pay area. hello, i'm sara donchey. tonight, multiple stories that span the globe that focus on a similar scene. the anxiety that families feel and that is what one east bay family is going through right now. a wife and mother of two young children was supposed to fly home in time for thanksgiving but never made it home on the plane. she was just discharged from a mental health facility in houston and now her family has not heard from her since and have no idea where she could be. we spoke to her neighbors tonight. >> reporter: it has think about five days since the 35-year-old, and mother of two, danny freeland vanished in houston. this photo shows her at george bush international continental airport where she was last seen the day before thanksgiving. her family says she checked her bag but never

boarded the plane bound for sfo. her husband jordan is with family and friends in houston. desperately searching for her >> my biggest fear is honestly safety. we have a 2-year-old and 5-year-old and she is the best mom in the world, their world will not be the same without her. >> reporter: her family says she had been experiencing a mental health crisis over the last few months. she spent seven weeks at a well known clinic in houston getting treatment. she was scheduled to return to the bay area for the holidays and planned to continue treatment in california. her family believes she left the airport in a taxi and only $160 and a debt card. the police said she intentionally left her phone behind. she is also at high risk due to her suicidal ideations.. >> there were a couple apparent sightings but nothing turned up yet. >> reporter: jordan said with therapy and medication she was

making remarkable progress. i spoke to a neighbor who did not want to show his face on camera. >> i think being a parent you always see other parents who might be getting burned out from your kids and stuff like that. nothing that would of given me that indication that she was thinking bad thoughts. >> reporter: they met with houston's outreach. she made previous statements >> she was always pleasant. we have seen her running in the neighborhood, taking the kids to school. i had multiple discussions with her since we have been here. you know, she is happy, she is smiling when we were talking. >> reporter: neighbors that i spoke with said they believe she was a stay at home mom and was looking for a job. >> mental health is brutal. anxiety, depression, you know, these are not things you can always see. >> she really is an amazing person and just want to bring

her home and make sure she is safe. >> reporter: the ceo of the clinic that just discharged her said they can not say anything about her because of patient confidentiality. the other story about families separated captured the attention of the world, truly. hundreds of people kidnapped from israel by hamas on october 7th left family members behind who for weeks feared the worst n many cases, some of the family members live here in the bay area including a pacifica man that flew to tel aviv after his cousins were taken hostage. the good news that the family got this weekend that they were not sure would come. >> i am so happy. >> reporter: it took orin almost a full day to fly from san francisco to tel aviv. >> that, that was a rocket? >> reporter: less than two hours to be reminded why he came here in the first place >> it is not thunder, huh?

>> reporter: a rocket from gaza is intercepted near a friend's house where he is staying. >> you never see their rockets, you only see the iron dome hitting, hitting their rockets. >> reporter: getting a crash course of what it means to be in a war zone. taking to the buildings safe room. >> you have 90 seconds to get in. we have air filtration and water. you get in here and you have to keep the door closed. >> reporter: on october 7th, orin woke to a floury of desperate messages from family members beeri about two miles from the border with gaza. his cousin, rice, was taken hostage by hamas terrorists, her 18-year-old daughter was hiding under the bed. they burnt the house down, she messaged and then minutes later she wrote, they are coming. it was the last they heard from her before

she was taken to gaza. by the end of the day more than 120 residents were massacred including four members of his extended family. they became two of at least 32 members kidnapped by hamas. sherry's husband is listed as missing. over the last month, orin raised $38,000 to buy bikes and warriors gear for the children of beeri who lost everything during the attack. >> i asked them, what do they want? all of them universally said steph curry. >> among the many presents are cards from his daughter and classmates in san francisco written to the kids there. >> sending love from san francisco. dear friends, what is your favorite animal, mine is a dog. do you like art? if so, what is your favorite art material? >> reporter: as he walked to the heart of tel aviv, orin was

overcome with emotion. the area known for its night life has become a gathering place to honor the hostages. >> look at it. people that put this stuff down loved these people. no one here is tearing it down, no one is yelling at these people for being alive, who they are. i sometimes think we just live in an awful, awful society. >> reporter: at the time the hostage deal was uncertain and orin had just one wish >> it would be a mish expel a prayer answered if while i am here, right now, not only any hostages released but if the three of them come home. i don't even know how to explain what that would mean. >> reporter: three days after our interview that wish came true as two were released after nearly two months in captivity.

truce has been extended. berkeley student is hoping her sister-in-law may be among them. she and her husband are held by hamas. but right now the truce does not allow for the release of israeli men. [ screaming ] . >> reporter: that was the moment palestinian mother finally saw her daughter after she spent eight years in israeli prison. she was in the first wave of palestinian prisoners released in the swap. so far 150 palestinians were released from israeli prisons. >> reporter: back here in the bay area, oakland city council passed a resolution calling on the government to demand a permanent ceasefire. first, they heard nearly six hours of public comment. more than 200 people signed up to speak at the special meeting that was called for this single item. unlike the resolution richmond recently passed that accused

israel of ethnic cleansing. recognizing losses on both sides without taking aside. some critics say it is not neutral enough. >> this resolution must be amended to being knowledge the atrocities of hamas and the removal of power and gaza. >> passing the resolution it will show that the city stands with these communities and will not stand for islamic phobia. we just want peace with all of our communities >> they pass today unanimously with no amendments. whoever was trying to make a quick stop at this bay area convenient store did not stop quick enough. we got a lot of calls and messages from you about this. what we are learning about the smoke plume seen for miles all over the bay area. clear skies over the bay area this evening, temperatures are dropping off quickly. clouds on the way and showers on the way. in fact, about 24 hours from now we will track those and run down the times when they will come to an end

hospital. it is unclear what caused the crash. a lot of people saw smoke rising over the bay. if you were close enough you saw flames, too. it was from the chevron's richmond refinery. they said it happened because of a power outage, flaring happens to release pressure but it can put out a lot of thick dark smoke like it did today. a hazmat team went to the refinery and says its air monitoring did not show any public health impact at the time. the air district did not issue any kind of advisory or alert because of the flaring but they did say they got more than 50 complaints from the public. it is not unusual to see illegal street vendors lining the streets pedaling stolen goods. the city is cracking down with a 90 day ban on all sidewalk vending on mission street. the city set up two spots for permitted vendors. only enough space for about

half of them. they tell jose martinez it is the people doing everything right who are being punished here. >> reporter: today marked a challenging day for vendors in the mission. the vendor ban took effect this monday leaving vendors unable to work. >> reporter: i asked her, today did you arrive and suddenly they told you that you had to move? she tells me i did not know. i was not very sure. they told me we could not be here anymore. she is known for selling on the street but today she is not working she is looking for answers at another protest organized by the vendors here to talk to the supervisor. >> the problem with the vending situation on mission street is not these people behind me. they are phenomenal people. the problem is there is another element that has taken over the

streets of the mission that are stealing and selling stolen goods. it is a huge fencing operation. >> reporter: two alternate locations were set up for the vendors >> there is what we are calling the [indiscernible] it is, it has about 40 spots where vendors can come and sell their goods for free t. is indoors, security, there are bathrooms, we secured the parking lot on 24th as a place for up to nine vendors to also come and sell their goods. so, we walked there and helped her get information about applying to sell here. >> this is the registration certificate. >> reporter: basically, she needs to provide her business registration and seller's permit and then she would get one of these spots like gloria, who has been selling flowers here for 25 years. >> reporter: she says here in

this pace i will put a table on this side and here my chair. it will be placed close to the other stand. she thinks it is too small and away from the street. back on mission and 24th street other vendors kept asking for a delay until january. >> it is a big city operation, you guys. i am one person. i have taken responsibility for this because i am supervisor of the district. i don't run the city department, the mayor and the department heads run the city department. i am taking a stand on this but i am not in control of all of it as much as i wish i were. >> reporter: and so the enforcement begins, to avoid this kind of experience, they will stay here waiting to start selling at one of the available locations. >> reporter: some of the street vendors are telling me they are going to continue to have conversations with supervisor until there is a permanent solution to this issue.

with the rain and spreading tomorrow might into early wednesday. for now, clear skies out there looking to the east from the mark hopkins hotel. clear and chilly tonight. frost advisory for the inland valleys, not a big deal, chilly. a mix of clouds and sun, increasing clouds in the afternoon. then the rain moves in tomorrow into early wednesday. it is still unsettled forecast beyond that thursday and friday maybe even to start the weekend on saturday. let's check out future cast. we will track the increase in cloud cover, first. it will kick in really tomorrow afternoon. plenty of sunshine, more and more clouds building in heading into the afternoon and early evening hours, the rain hanging off of the coast. that starts to change moving into tomorrow evening. rain showers moving into the north bay first, spreading across more of the bay area heading through tomorrow night. a wet start to the day on wednesday. does not last all day. lunchtime, rain showers have come to an end and we will see

partial clearing wednesday afternoon. clear skies wednesday night. temporary, the clouds fill back in heading through thursday. another system will be dropping in sending another chance of showers towards us sometime on thursday. the timing it is still up in the air on this one. could be early in the day. this forecast model says it will hold off to the afternoon. either way ,does not look like we will see more scattered showers in the afternoon. adding up the rain, not talking about heavy rainfall. picking up less spots of a quarter of an inch of rain. for the most part, we are talking about a quarter to half an inch. high elevation spots in the coastal range and the north bay. picking up half an inch to an inch of rainfall. not done with the rain chances, the drop, they drop significantly heading towards the end of the weekend. do not go down to 0. as a forecaster it is an annoying place to be. not a guarantee of

rain. the odds are, not a miss than a hit. everybody's outdoor plans are sensitive. showers, getting closer to the weekend. now, right now, another view of the clear skies as we get out to the bay bridge. 40 in livermore. 47 in santa rosa. the temperatures will drop down into the 30s by tomorrow morning for most inland parts of the bay area to around 30 degrees in fairfield around the bay. temperatures will warm up, temperatures warm up by tomorrow afternoon as they push temperatures up to 5-7 degrees above average. knocking on the doorstep of 70 in san jose, falling just short, most of the bay area in the lower to middle 60s. does not sound all that warm but it is. 2-4 degrees above average highs, between 60

and 62 degrees. does not matter. temperatures top out in the middle 60s. just above that tomorrow. the clouds increase and the rain chances move in. we are going to drop a few degrees off of the forecast high. starting inland where the best chance of rain will be on wednesday. keeping showers in the forecast for both thursday and again on friday. it will be hit-or-miss. feeling like a wash out. the wettest, showers lingering into early saturday morning and then drivewaying out a little bit heading into next week. the temperatures are going to be similar across most of the bay area. most days highs, close to where we are supposed to be this time of the year. drier pattern, sticking around into next week as the storm track gets nudged to the north. might carry us through the first full week of december. keep you updated as everything changes in the next
