first wave of rain it is widespread. let's zoom in for a closer look on what is happening with doppler. heavy downpours falling in eastern sonoma county. higher elevations on the east of highway 101. down to sonoma itself, about to cross over the county line and make its way through the napa valley. around san francisco we had the rain moving in. we will get to that part of the radar in just a moment. the rain tapered off in intensity. heaviest rain over pablo bay. oakland will get in on the rain that moved through san francisco t. is still raining at a good clip over the eastern half of the city. a lot of the heavy rain is over the bay and about to cross into alameda county. further down the peninsula, more showers falling, nothing in terms of the flooding threat with this. it is not flooding heavy enough to lead to a concern for that. it is the first of a couple waves moving through the rest

of tonight adding moisture to fairly dry fire fuels and beneficial rain for the most part. sticking with us for the next several hours, taking shape and moving through the drive time tomorrow morning, i think there will be enough showers to complicate the drive to work. the earlier you leave the better off you can be. once you are on the road better stopping distance. the rain tapers off, down to lingering showers, through the afternoon, partial clearing, a pop up shower and that is about it. we don't get through the rain chances tomorrow. we will get to see an outside shower chance thursday and friday. a better chance in the forecast by friday night into saturday. lower than a 50/50 chance. that part of the forecast could still go either way. we will take a look at the seven-day outlook coming up in the full

seven-day forecast in a few minutes. ♪. since the fighting broke out on october 7th tensions have been rising to a boiling point on college camps here in the u.s. we have seen protests, counterprotests on campuses all over the country including here, uc berkeley. some are suing cal claiming it is a hotbed of unchecked anti-semitism. we spoke to one of the plaintiffs about what she wants from the university. >> reporter: uc berkeley was sued tuesday by jewish groups that said unchecked anti-semitism spread on campus including at the law school. the lawsuit said specifically law school groups anti-jewish policies. the complaint filed in federal court is among the first against a major university since the war began between israel and hamas. >> yes, i feel fear. and at the same time i am not going to wear a shirt that i would have

gotten on a trip to israel. i am not going to necessarily have a pin of an israeli flag or to do anything that would show my solidarity. >> reporter: this business student is part of jewish americans, one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit. she shared video of two assaults that happened in october. she said this one shows the moments after a jewish student, carrying an israeli flag was hit with a metal water bottle. >> my understanding is i am not seeing the university enforce policy in place. when you don't enforce policy in every situation only certain situations, that to me is discrimination. >> reporter: do you feel the anti-semitism that you are experiencing is hindering your education? >> yes. it most definitely is. >> reporter: the lawsuit said court intervention is needed to protect students students and

faculty. >> as far as what we want it is one folks that work in dei who are responsible for student safety having them educated and trained on what anti-semitism looks like in 2023. it is calling the two assaults against jewish students hate crimes and three, it is having someone full time employed in the office who is trained to handle the jewish students. >> reporter: the university says uc berkeley believes the claims in the lawsuit are not consistent with the first amendment of the constitution or the facts of what actually is happening on campus the university has long been committed to confronts anti-semitism and to supporting the needs and interests of its jewish students and staff. and how frightening some of the demonstrations have been to the jewish students and responding to the impact. >> what are you hoping to get

from this lawsuit? >> systemic change. when they talk about free speech they should identify what is anti-semitism. >> there is a congressional hearing on college campus set for next we. harvard, mit and university of pennsylvania are all ready to testify. time-out after five days, fighting could start occupy again after a final prisoner in swap tomorrow, you may recognize one ever the women released today. she is the sister-in-law of berkeley phd student yael. we brought you her story last week when she set two empty places at her thanksgiving place for rimon and her husband, who is still believed to be held in gaza tonight. we only have four seconds of video of rimon's release. it shows her saying something to her capture before walking away. she is getting some attention for it. some are saying she showed bravery. yael

is on her way to israel tonight to meet her. we will try to find out what it was she said.. we have an update on a israeli father who found out his 9-year-old daughter emily was alive weeks after being told she was killed. we first heard from him in october when he expressed relief at the thought that emily was not suffering >> we found emily. she is dead. i went, yes, she would have been in a darkroom filled with christ so many people and terrified every minute, hour, day and possible years to come. so, death was a blessing an blessing. >> tonight we know 9-year-old emily is safe and slowly sharing the details. >> all of a sudden the door

opened up and she just ran. it was beautiful. just like -- just like i imagined it, you know, running together. i squeezed, i probably squeezed too hard. >> emily was held for 50 days. she is visibly haunted by the ordeal but now they are starting the work to help her heal. >> people were cheering outside of a west bank prison where 30 more palestinian prisoners were freed in the latest swap since the ceasefire began. all part of this agreement between israel and hamas. israel has released 180 palestinian prisoners so far. some of whom have been held for months oner years for offenses ranging from attacks on security forces to throwing stones. back here in the bay area comments from a special city

want that to happen in oakland. we need the leadership to lower the temper and i am afraid this is raising the temperatures >> that is why the berkeley mayor says his city is staying out of it as far as official resolutions go. staying in part, as mayor it is my job to keep the community safe. it will not end the violence abroad but fan the flames of hatred here and that is a threat i can't ignore. an east bay mom who should have been sitting with her family at the thanksgiving table did not show. now, her car turned up nowhere near her california home. a teen was murdered before she could graduate high school. why her killer could soon be released from prison. oakland sports fans have been through the ringer as they watched their teams pack up and leave for vegas. now they are getting a new team in town that can really ball. when you are married nearly 80 years you are bound to argue

. tonight, the search for a missing mom has narrowed to a wooded area near a texas area she has been missing for a week after she missed a flight home for thanksgiving. here is an area where the search is concentrated right now. in the center of houston but in a wooded area. a family friend flew in from colorado to help find her. >> we will stay here until we find dani. she has a lot of family and friends that flown in from the country to assist and find her and make sure she is safe. so many people care about her. >> he said they have reason to believe she is in a wooded area like this. they have a huge amount of ground cover, they say, she vanished the day

before thanksgiving after she checked out of a houston mental health facility. a man who killed a 17-year-old san francisco high school student almost 20 years ago was just granted parole. a lincoln high school softball player was murdered in september of 2004. royce miller, a 21-year-old youth counselor at the time was convicted in 2007. prosecutors say she snuck out of the house to meet miller who strangled her and dumped her body. according to state prison records he was granted parole on october 12th. unclear when he will be released. the new iphone update means it will be easier to share your contact information with a tap of your phone. law enforcement is warning it may make it too easy for people to swipe your personal information when you don't want to share it. the name drop feature lets you share your information by holding your iphone near someone else's, it will lead you to a prompt to share but

they are warning that it could make it easier for someone to get your address or your birthday or your kid's data. it will be standard once you update your software and turn it off on your children's phones to keep them safe. this holiday season you will not have to go all of the way to new york city to watch the rockets, rockeets. they ettes. now, for us, paul, the issue that we have to worry about when we are out on the roads tonight and tomorrow it is a different distraction. it is the rain. >> i wonder what the radar would look like, maybe that is the next thing we will work on here in our virtual reality environment. we are checking showers, swirling away off of the coast, sending ripples in the atmosphere towards the west

coast. and tracking the heaviest rain through making it farther and farther inland. it will move in later on tonight. zooming in on the heaviest rain falling along the sonoma/napa line. pushing into the east into napa county and downslope into the napa valley, the heaviest rain moved out of marin county into san pablo bay into the bay now into west oakland into downtown oakland and there is plenty of shower down the peninsula crossing over the bay and on its way to the east bay as well. we will zoom back out and put it all in motion, you see a wave of rain came rushing in, ahead of schedule, did not expect it to happen until after midnight. we definitely need the rain. beggars can not be choosers in terms of timing. future cast and track it through the rest of tonight. i think we are going to see more rain headed towards the coast around drive time tomorrow morning, as i mentioned earlier, allow for extra time. once you are on the roads extra stopping distance for the morning commute on

wednesday. by noon, things largely quieted down. a shower or two popping up in the santa cruz mountains, otherwise, partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. a mix of clouds and sunshine in the forecast for thursday and friday. the best rain chances, they will not be 0. 10-20% chance of rain is something we will keep an eye on for thursday and friday. better chances of rain will stay to the north. nothing part of california and northwest. how much rain are we talking? depends where you are. farther inland, and higher elevation, half-inch on top of what has fallen. a similar pattern for the southern half of the bay area, farther inland, barely more than a trace in the rain shadowed spots and coast, half an inch of rain. no flooding out of this just a soaking rainfall for much of the bay area. a lot of cloud cover out there. limiting how much the temperatures will drop. lower to middle 40s in livermore and concord. you will stabilize there with the temperatures in the 40s as we wake up in the

morning, the 30s for a change as opposed to the last several nights. frosty locations, high temperatures tomorrow, going to warm up, they will end up once the sun peeks through the morning clouds, 60s on the warm part, peninsula and redwood city. coast, half moon bay, 60 degrees, that is normal. everyone's average highs in late november are between 60 and 62. most of us will beat that by a degree or two. and a similar trend is going to hold as we finish the workweek. the sunshine thursday and friday we will manage to warm up typical for this time of the year if not for a couple degrees above average, let's look at the seven-day forecast and it is a couple of halves we have the unsettled forecast. scattered showers are possible but not

guaranteed beyond that time frame, the forecast dries out sunday, monday, tuesday. the calmer weather pattern for the first half of the first full week of december beyond that time frame it does look like we will get back into an unsettled pattern that is typical for the last month of the year. temperatures still above average as we head into early next week running five or six degrees above normal. lower to middle 60s along the coast, i think, next tuesday, temperatures running above 60 degrees even into the lower to middle 60s by tuesday. we will keep you updated including on the rain chance that may wet down the first hours of the weekend on saturday. >> all right, paul, thank you. oakland is losing the a's but getting the b's, the ballers to be exact. the excitement for a new team coming to the town. how about the ballers for the warriors, a chance to advance,

. a nice warm welcome to former president and first ahead jimmy and rosalynn carter. we took a deep dive to come up with this moment in 19 87 when they appeared together. they were together for 78 years, married for 77 of them when she died last week at the age of 96. despite being on hospice care her 99-year-old husband was still there for her at her memorial service in atlanta today. a marriage that long certain to hit bumps when much of it is spent on the world stage. the biggest bump might surprise you. in 1987 they told "people are talking" the time they finished writing the book together they were barely speaking. >> we were married for 40 years. been through tough times, this was the worst thing we ever did together.
