11:06 pm
>> i have every voice for my niners! let's go! let's go! >> reporter: a lot of fans say they'll need a couple of days to get their voice back, but they'll be ready to scream next weekend. >> i feel like i'm going to lose my voice just watching alicia in that story! now to the other big story of the night. the rain. here's a time lapse of the rain moving over the stadium earlier today. darren peck is here to tell us about every more rain on the way. darren? >> there's a whole separate storm coming for tomorrow night, andrea, and that's the main one. that coming storm is the reason the national weather service issued a flood watch for the north bay, for the rain that's coming tomorrow night. but we'll take it one storm at a time. this is live right now. i'll bring it back 12 hours to go so you can see how today went. rain started coming on around 3:00. around 5:00, some of the best of the showers came through. it stayed light showers throughout the evening. so there's still light rain pretty much up and down the

bay. it's not heavy downpour, but it's rain, and it will keep doing so for the remainder of the night. here's 2:00 a.m., still going. here we are approaching sunrise, still going. scattered showers. it's not until around 8:00 to 9:00 tomorrow morning when that system finally ends and the next system will get here. i want you to see the difference. going out for the wide view. here's the system tonight that's clearing. here comes the next one. that one gets here tomorrow in the afternoon. another big wall of rain will have bigger totals, stronger wind, and even some thunderstorms. we'll go over this one in a lot more detail coming up in the first alert forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you, darren. faculty at cal state university campuses are poised to go on a week long strike starting this monday. months of negotiations have stalled out over a demand from the faculty's union for a 12% pay increase. school

money in the city's budget to try to clear more encampments along the guadalupe river trail to preserve public use. here's the details. >> reporter: san jose mayor matt mahan is calling on the city to make the guadalupe river trail a no encampment zone. >> it's hard for us to build public trust to get taxpayers and other government agencies in the state of california to trust us with our limited public dollars if we don't prove that we can keep these areas clear and clean and accessible to the public. >> reporter: last fall, the city spent $2 million of state encampment resolution funds to relocate people living along the trail into interim housing and reclaim the space for public use. but the mayor says to make sure another encampment doesn't sprout up in the area,
11:10 pm
the city needs to take pre-emptive action. >> we need to then post a no camping notice and proactively keep these areas clear so we can me methodically work our way through the city and end the era of encampments the right way by offering people places to go. >> reporter: the mayor, with the support of two city council members, is introducing a memo that would divert existing resources to keep the guadalupe river trail clear. supporters of the policy say it would not only keep the trail accessible and safe for the public, but also help revitalize the natural environment along the river. >> i think it's important to realize that it only took a few weeks for our environment to come back, for the park to come back. and having a policy like a no return zone allows the river to regenerate itself so that everyone can come back and

see and experience this wild river we have through our urban core. >> reporter: the mayor says he believes this type of policy is humane and could be used as a template for other cities looking to clear out their own encampments. >> we reached out to both the coalition for the unhoused of silicon valley and the coalition on homelessness for their response to the mayor's proposal, but we have not heard back. still ahead tonight at 11:00, people living in richmond forced to shelter in place today due to a fire with hazardous materials. we have the latest. then, thousands of people marching down market street despite the rain. protesters from both sides of the abortion debate speak out.

fire at a building with hazardous material inside. everyone living within six blocks of 1200 pennsylvania avenue were ordered to stay inside and avoid the smoke. still no word on fire or health officials on what exactly the hazardous materials were or what started the fire. but there are no reports of health issues or injuries due to the fire. darren peck is with us tracking the latest storm system that's supposed to roll in tomorrow. >> it will. and we can't come out of first alert status until monday because the storm coming in tomorrow will be here primarily through the night, and that's actually the main rainy one. >> the main event. >> it's bringing more rain and strong wind. we're not done with the first storm though. let me show you what this one is doing. you can see the showers still with us. it will go on like this for the next few hours. if you have rain for your part of the bay, and many places still do, that won't
11:16 pm
change a lot. here's 2:30. nothing really changing from now until then. then closer to sunrise, the showers become a little more on again, off again. but they're still not gone. by 9:00, 10:00 in the morning, they'll be turning off from this system. that brings to a close this system. watch what shows up towards the end. that's the next one. that's tomorrow. we'll look at that one in more detail in a second. i want to show you how much rain is still to go tonight from this one. we still have a potential for three quarter of an inch to an inch in far north bay communities. everyone else gets about another quarter inch of rain. if you take the next one and put it on top of the inch we just saw still coming tonight, that's why there's a flood watch coming to want. see the strong plume of clouds getting pointed our way? before we play
11:17 pm
this through, i want you see what's driving this. because there's a lot of atmospheric ingredients here. there's going to be a weak atmospheric river with this. see what gets pulled our way and pulled up ever so subtly towards us? this is not a particularly strong atmospheric river, but it is one nonetheless. a weak one, moderate at most. usually those are beneficial for rain unless they're on top of a landscape that's already saturated like the north bay is getting tonight. now we have a big wall of green coming up seemingly out of nowhere. that's because this storm is getting an added bump in its available moisture to work with. if we come back and play that again and time it out, here's what it looks like as it comes on shore tomorrow. the afternoon, 4:00, 5:00, it's going to the north bay. this is a part of the bay that would have just received an inch of rain overnight, and now
11:18 pm
the heavy rain is going back up to sonoma county. and you don't have to be in the north bay to experience good rain tomorrow. that gets us 24 hours from now. this is 10:00 tomorrow night. we're really seeing well put together organization in terms of consistent lines of rain coming into the bay at that point. and it doesn't really clear until towards monday at sunrise. then on monday, small chance of an isolated thunderstorm going into monday morning. but the bigger issue is what happens in the sunday evening and overnight time frame from the amount of rain stand point. but because of the preceding condition of the landscape, it's the north bay that the national weather service put the flood watch out for. it doesn't even start until
11:19 pm
tomorrow night at 8:00. then it doesn't expire until monday at 10:00. the rain will be long done by monday night at 10:00. they extended the flood watch that far because it will take that long for the water to move through the landscape and the basins to filter through the uncontrolled streams or creeks. in terms of street flooding, that probably comes earlier. that's probably the sunday night time frame. ponding of water on roadways and low lying intersections. it's going to get a bit windy as well, but there are no advisories. but 40 miles per hour gusts are possible in the higher elevations. there's your seven-day forecast. first alert in effect through sunday and monday. as long as we have the flood watch, we'll keep a first alert status to ensure the awareness is elevated on this, and make sure you have all the information over the next 48 hours as this more powerful rain maker moves through. then we'll get a break, thankfully. we could use it tuesday. there's more rain
11:20 pm
wednesday, but it doesn't look big. light amounts of rain with that one. matt, out to you. >> reporter: thanks, darren. you're talking about rain, i'm standing in the rain. we're live at levi stadium where the niners wrapped up and defeated the green bay packers, punched their ticket to the nfc championship game. if you have a cardiologist, make an appointment for monday because that was anything but a

man, you're getting a pick six. i >> i turn around and see 57 just running around swimming with the football like this. i'm like oh, heavens. but i went up to him afterward like why didn't you go down? he's like i wanted a pick six like we talked about! >> reporter: you can't blame a man for wanting to get to the end zone.
