kicks off in just four hours from now, right here on kpix. the niners at the raiders home turf at allegiant stadium today. we are live in vegas for a preview of that showdown and asking about the keys for another super bowl run. we'll have that conversation in just a few minutes. but first, a look at your news headlines. oakland police are investigating two separate deadly shootings in just a matter of hours, including one at a liquor store. officers say a man was killed at harry's liquors at 90th and macarthur late last night. no one has been arrested. police say that just before that shooting three people were shot on ne avenue. one of them died suspending his presidential campaign and endorsing former president trump. he says his name will still appear on some ballots, but it will be removed in most of the battleground states. meantime, trump is campaigning today in nevada and

will start accepting patients on tuesday. all right. on to first alert weather. now, parts of the bay area could see some light rain this weekend. meteorologist zoe mintz is in our virtual view studio to tell us when and where. happy friday! we have made it through the workweek and we have made it to our storm system it's arrived. it's brought us cooler temperatures, more cloud coverage, maybe even a little bit of misty drizzle overnight and into tomorrow as well. but the biggest impact that's the most noticeable to i'm sure everybody in the bay area is the cool down this afternoon. high temperatures are going to be in the upper 60s near san francisco, and our coastal communities just a degree or two below average places like oakland are also going to be a degree or two below average, while san jose, the santa clara valley, and our inland east bay communities upwards of five to over ten degrees below average. a very nice change of pace that i'm sure everybody is enjoying this afternoon, along with the cloud coverage. although if you had any afternoon plans, heat safety is not going to be top priority. it's going to be trying to find a few peeks of
3:05 pm
sunshine while you can, but most of us are going to be seeing the cloud coverage throughout the earlier parts of the day by later this afternoon and evening. that will be your best chance to see a bit clearer skies and maybe even a beautiful sunset tonight. but the storms are not the storms. the chance for rain returns overnight and into very early tomorrow morning. our north bay communities could be seeing a little bit of drizzle, and maybe even here in san francisco, an isolated shower cannot be ruled out. it is not going to be heavy. it likely is only going to be. maybe trace amounts to a couple hundredths of an inch, but we'll take whatever rain we can get during our normally driest time of the year. let's take a look at that rainfall potential over the next two days, because today's rainfall chances not necessarily crazy high. they're only about 5 or 6% along our coastal communities, inland areas little to no chances of seeing any of that rain it's by tomorrow, though, that the better chance for rain does arrive, where our coastal areas have about a 25% chance of seeing some sort of precipitation even if it is just a mist or a drizzle inland
3:06 pm
areas slightly lower. chances of seeing that rain potential, but either way they will continue to see more comfortable heat today tomorrow, before even more warm up begins to build in by the later parts of the weekend and into early next week. upper 90s returning to the forecast with much drier air in place near triple digits even likely going to be seeing an excessive heat warning in effect. bay area communities not as hot, but for places that don't have air conditioning. mid 80s definitely heating up enjoy today. even though it's cloudier, it's nice and cool. >liz>one more preseason warm up for the 40 niners and you can watch it right here on kpix in just a few hours it's against their former crosstown rivals, the raiders, now in their new home. our vern glenn is live in las vegas for us with a preview of the big game. hey vern, >live>all right there, liz, you're gonna have to call this 3:00 show. the all energy team. i'm following up. zoe metz, and i'm coming to you from just off the vegas strip as training camp is
3:07 pm
all but done, it's just a matter of this this game here on the allegiant stadium field to dot the i's and cross the t's on this preseason against the raiders, the 40 niners going to play most of the starters who did travel. and that includes quarterback brock purdy and tight end george kittle now, the last time the 40 niners were on this stadium and i was there six months ago where they experienced the heartbreak of losing super bowl 58 in overtime to the chiefs. this year's >team >>is one of the favorites to win super bowl 59, and that remains goal number >one >>in the locker room you know, i don't feel like i need any more motivation or or things to get get myself going other than just my inner drive. but you know, those type of things, they do stay with you, you know, and they give you that extra hunger and motivation to continue to keep going. my number one goal in this, in this league is to is to win a championship. you know, do it for this fan base, this organization. bring us
3:08 pm
back to where we need to be. our goal as a team is to win the super bowl. you didn't bring all these people here. if you didn't pay all these people, you know, just to get close. so i think as a team, yeah, i think that's our overall mindset and our goal. and you are back with vengeance to every single day, baby >live>all right now we'll have more of the george hill interview later on at halftime and after the game. certainly in the fifth quarter postgame show where i'll join matt lively and lorenzo neal. but is about time to get it on. and, liz, i know if you were here, you know, you would say, stay on 17. >liz>always >>bet on black. >liz>always always bet on black. all right, vern, you know we know brock purdy. we really haven't seen the starters play. so far in these preseason games. so what can we expect to see tonight? well, we got a lot of minutes out there from the from the star players. are they really just going to be trying out the rookies >live>well a lot of this has been because of the injury
3:09 pm
issue with the team regarding the starters. but these guys, they want to get in, they want to play. so kyle shanahan is going to play. brock purdy about 20 snaps unless the first drive goes so well they go okay i've seen enough. but most of those starters are going to play two maybe three series. and then come out. and then it's about the rest of the backups that they have to evaluate as they got to cut down the rosters from 90 to 53 by the end of next week. so it was a dress rehearsal for a lot of these guys that are trying to make the team and for the starters. hey, get up there, get the feel of getting hit and get your heart rate up. >liz>yeah, that's i think what makes these preseason games so exciting is that for these backup players, the younger guys that are hoping to make the team this is their super bowl, this is their chance to make it to the big leagues right >live>yeah. this is it liz. i mean a lot of these guys that are playing, it'll be the last time they will wear a 40 niner
3:10 pm
uniform. a lot of these guys are trying to play to probably make other rosters because the league is watching. everybody is watching. everybody has knees. there's guys on this team that that that are trying for a spot on this team maybe other teams practice squad. there's a whole lot of shaking going >liz>on >>as they like to >liz>say. >>once the cutdowns come >liz>next week, there's a whole lot of shakin goin on and i'm curious, verne. i mean, you've spent a lot of time in vegas this past year or so. it's the first time you've been back since the super bowl what's your confidence level ahead of the 49 ers season? are you seeing some magic in the air >live>liz. who are you talking to. come on you 40 niners. here they are. the favorite to win the nfc championship. again. they were favorites to get to new orleans in february after the loss to the kansas city chiefs. so what do they do in the off season. they reloaded. they they drafted for for depth instead of maybe starters. and i fully
3:11 pm
expect them to rip off another 1112 win season and be in new orleans again. >liz>well i loved your one on one interviews with some of the players because you get that they're confident, they're really positive, but you can also sense there's a little bit of a chip on their shoulder like they've got some unfinished business they have something to prove. >live>george kittle is back with vengeance and the best thing about those sit down interviews, liz, i don't need a stool. i sit him down in a >liz>chair. >>they're right in front >liz>of me >live>and it's cool hanging out with them and dapping them up and just kind of having conversations >liz>with >>them not necessarily about football, but these guys are ready to go. >liz>liz. yeah, no, i really enjoyed those interviews. all right, vern, thank you so much. see you at five. bye, buddy. all right. still ahead, a cbs sports analyst joins me live to talk about the x factors you may want to watch for this season. plus, see what a couple

(janet) nice! (janet) houston we have a playroom! the 40 niners are ready for redemption. and they have one more tune up tonight against the raiders before the start of the regular season. joining me now is cbs sports football analyst emery hunt. emery thanks so much for being with us. >live>i appreciate you guys having >liz>me on. all right. so this preseason, which players do you think have really proven themselves both in the 49 ers and even elsewhere in the league. >live>you know i look at malik mustafa the outstanding safety for san francisco when i was breaking down his film coming into the draft. there was one play in particular where he came back from the deep third and made a tackle five yards in the backfield. that type of aggressiveness, those are the type of guys you want on your team. and so he has really stood out for me in particular, that saints game last weekend
3:16 pm
where he was just blowing things up at the line of scrimmage. so malik mustafa has been a star so far in the preseason. >liz>are there any big matchups that you're really looking for when it comes to the 49 ers? any teams that you think oh, that's going to be a good one. that's going to be a challenge. >live>well their division got significantly better this offseason i think the arizona cardinals are one of the more underrated teams in the nfc this year because of what they added in marvin harrison jr. you still have michael wilson, whom they drafted last season kyler murray is in the second year of the system. he's healthy now, so he has a little bit more of an understanding of what they want offensively. and seattle is going to be seattle. you get mike mcdonald to come >liz>over >>from the baltimore ravens. so you know that defense is going to be ratcheted up and their offense can score. and the rams seem to just find ways to be productive with young players. i thought last season was the best coaching job. sean mcvay did because he had a bunch of rookies and a bunch of one year players. on his two deep. so now that they're a year more experienced, this nfc west is
3:17 pm
going to be very competitive for san francisco. >liz>what about the x factors that you have your eye on during the regular season now just just nfl wide. >live>well nfl wide. you're looking at who has the best depth because this is where it happens to teams going toward week ten on on back. because if you don't have a solid qb2 that you can depend on because we've seen since covid, you're going to need your backup quarterback to play at least one game in the 40 niners, let's say, has gotten a good one, have gotten a good one in josh dobbs, and you need depth in the secondary teams. now just average going out there throwing 3 or 4 wide receiver sets. you better have three, 4 or 5 dbs that can cover. so how well you are deep in the secondary and how well you trust your qb two to go out there and win you a game or two. and let's see a three game stretch where you have to play. maybe without your starting >liz>qb, you know with the super bowl, you know, you really see that both teams they have in order to win that big

game, you really have to be on your a game and all the weaknesses will be revealed because you got the two best teams in theory in the league playing against each other what are the biggest question marks you have for the 40 niners this season? what are their weak points right now? >live>well, we still are. i compared the situation with brandon aiyuk to doctor dre's detox >liz>album. >>it was supposed to come out in 2000. we're still waiting on it, you know what i'm saying? so we're still waiting for this trade to happen until it happens. he's still out >liz>there >>in purgatory, so the wide receiver depth chart is going to be key for them, because that's an issue for the passing game. we know how much he means to brock purdy and i know people are talking about trent williams and they need him out there yes he's a future hall of famer. he's the best offensive lineman, but they've drafted well along the offensive line. aaron banks is a good one. jalen moore was a big fan of dominick puni. i was a big fan of into the draft and spencer burford out of utsa was another one of my favorite players coming into that draft. so i think they've done a good job developing depth along the

offensive line and renardo green out of florida state stood out to me at the east-west shrine bowl this past january, and it was good to see him get to san francisco, because that's an area where i thought teams were attacking the 40 niners in the secondary. so question that receiver, but i think that's the only one you have in my opinion >liz>all right. it's going to be a really fun season. i have a feeling all right emery hunt with cbs sports. thanks so much for being with us. >live>thank you guys for having >liz>me. well the 40 niners are hoping they struck gold with their second round cornerback renardo green our matt lively reports he's been impressive this training camp and is ready to contribute right out of the gate >anything that my coach has asked me to do, just try to hammer it down, get it down, pack. and then from that point on, just go play 100mph. renardo green was a standout at florida state, which means he's pretty familiar with one of his new teammates >with ricky pearsall getting drafted. it's a uf guy. i know that you guys played against each other a few times in
