(vo) what does it mean to be rich? maybe rich is less about reaching a magic number... and more about discovering magic. he needs protection that goes beyond. dove men with 72-h protection and 1/4 moisturizer. so he can forget his underarms and focus on being unforgettable. dove men. forgettable underarms, unforgettable you. okay, trainees! let's work on our fast and friendly claims service! eyes on the phone now! gecko: look al drew! your repairs have been scheduled. nice! waahhhh! uh, ha! yes, you'll get a rental car on site. heads up! ooooh!
8:01 pm
uh, i'm gonna turn this down to an eight. assistant: my bad! we can do this all day. geico claims service is 24/7. gecko: nice catch! your claim has been approved! your claim has been approved. for savings and service, get more with geico. rich: mateen mcganny, the short guy glessner, the long guy. bhaghani has hit from 52. glessner has hit from shorter yardage twice. ucla driving, tied with hawaii in their opener. ross: and ucla wants to score slowly if they can. take as much time off the clock as possible before getting the go-ahead score.
8:02 pm
rich: hawaii has two time-outs. garbers, crossing pattern. falls towards the stick. he may have the first down. ross: flores has had a really nice night. wide open on that crossing outside again. a heck of a transfer portal pickup by the bruins getting flores from notre dame. ucla is in no hurry. you're already in field goal range. there's absolutely no reason to leave hawaii a lot of time on the clock. they still want a touchdown and still wants to move the ball down the field but the clock is now their friend. rich: from the 23, first and 10. garbers. again, middle. deflected and incomplete. that was for flores. that stops the clock ask that's good for hawaii who has two time-outs left. ross: both garbers and schager i think sometimes -- that ball got
8:03 pm
tipped a little bit by smith the linebacker. flores just put that right hand on it. and now, if you're hawaii, you need to consider potentially using a time-out here if ucla runs the ball or gets tackled in the field of play. rich: harden in the backfield, second and 10 is garbers to throw. steps through the rush. breaks one tackle. not that one and he's dropped at the 18 and hawaii is going to take a time-out. ross: they are. rich: good job by timmy chang. 1:10 left. he's down to one left. ross: not a bad play there by garbers. worst case scenario, you pick up a couple extra yards, you couldn't find anybody but worst case scenario, pick up a couple of yards and make hawaii use one
8:04 pm
of their time-outs. gives you third and medium but also puts you in a better position to kick a field goal here if you don't convert. rich: you would think if ucla doesn't make the first down and it's not an incompletion, hawaii will take the final time-out. ross: i'm expecting hawaii to bring pressure here because you don't want garbers to be able to run for the first down and you want to try to sack them out of field goal range or at least make it a tougher field goal here. so if i'm dennis thurman, d coordinator for hawaii, i'm thinking he's bringing the heat. rich: ucla hasn't led many this game. harden is in the backfield. third down 5. got to get to the 13-yard line for a first down. they show possible pressure. shotgun. here they come. it's a blitz. garbers in trouble. avoids a sack. scrambling. to the sideline he dives and i don't think he has it.
8:05 pm
jaylonjaylon smith was in pursu. a couple of yards shy. ross: garbers, a nice job there by robbins. otherwise he would have gotten the first down. good play by washington. the heads-up play to go down inbounds so hawaii had to use their time-out. rich: and watching the dive the official must have seen the forearm go down smith. ross: watch garbers here. hey, i don't want to go out of bounds. watch. he's going to try to put the right knee down and the right forearm before he goes out of bounds. that is a heads-up play which could eventually be the difference in this game. rich: so hawaii used their last
8:06 pm
time. bhaghani, 2-2. this from 33. snap is good. kick is up and that is good. and ucla for the first time with 56 seconds left in this ballgame haas a lead -- has a lead, 16-13. ross: that's why ucla got him as his kicker. he's been nails with his opportunities. it cost them in some games last year. might be a big reason why they win today. rich: bhaghani made four field goals last year. was only 4-5. he was cal's backup kicker. all four he made was in cal's win against ucla. he was 4-4 so when his name popped up in the portal, they knew him.
8:07 pm
ross: seems like that happens a lot in the transfer portal. where guys get recruited by schools they performed well against. for hawaii, 56 seconds, no time-outs. in college football, under 2:00 the clock still does stop when you get a first down. they only need a field goal. their target line is about the 32 according to timmy chang so they want to try to get to about the 3. they'll attempt i would imagine a 50 to 5050-yard field goal. look at mom. rich: that's brayden schager's mom and dad. ross: you just want it so bad for your kids. rich: into the end zone. now, the run and shoot for hawaii has yielded a lot of eight and nine and 10-yard gains. they need more than that right
8:08 pm
now with 56 seconds left. ross: any play where they don't get a first down is going to be touch because a lot of time is going to go off the clock. so i would expect ucla -- i'll be curious to see what malloe, their defensive coordinator does here. if he goes mar to the -- more to the zone and doesn't bring the pressure. rich: you see the target line. 32-yard line for ucla. ross: it's looking linebacker le coverage. they're playing way off. rich: bring three, schager firings and perry drops it. he was open. that would have been a first down and a gain of about 13. ross: zone coverage and i think he drifted more than schager wanted him to. he started to drift towards
8:09 pm
henderson. i thought schager thought he would settle down more against the zone. i think schager is going to look to ashlock because that's who he trusts against zone coverage. rich: schager in trouble, dropped! ucla with a huge sack. ross: cannot happen. rich and clock continues to roll. they have to get receivers back up to the line of scrimmage if you're hawaii. ross: that is worst case theirer scenario. in situations like this without time-outs, you cannot take sacks. rich: loss of nine. third and 21. schager across the middle, caught. that's senegal. he's dropped. clock is still running. got to run a play here and they need yardage. on fourth down and 6.
8:10 pm
schager looking. time is running off and the ball is loose, on the field, the bruins have it! clock expires. ucla is going to win in game! all game long ucla trailed. and in his debut, deshaun foster pulls out a comeback win, 16-3. ross: just a disastrous last few plays for the rainbow warriors. short of the line to gain, the clock is just going to keep ticking like it did on the sack. they only got four plays off with 56 seconds left. that is really, really poor.
8:11 pm
finally schager finds ashlock who's go to try to reach to get the first down to see if he can.net it to stop the clock. rich: timmy chang and the rainbow warriors played a whale of a game. they were dominant in that first half. penalties may have kept them from more point. deshaun foster, that must have been a really interesting locker room at halftime. whatever he said brought ucla back. the offense got in gear and the defense made some big plays down the stretch. ross: ucla the far better team here in the second half. ashlock just lost it. addison all over it and the halftime adjustments, whatever they were, from deshaun foster and his coaching staff proveed to be a huge difference in this game. rich: deshaun foster is the winner and down below, you can

8:14 pm
there are a lot of people rooting for him. that's an outstanding way to start your head coaching career. ross: i think if you're a ucla fan, you have to be so proud of this team and in particular the quarterback ethan garbers the way they overcame that adversity from the first half. rich: the bruins arrive in honolulu and win it. for ross tucker, tiffany blackmon, gene steratore and our entire cbs crew. i'm rich waltz saying so long from honolulu. this has been a presentation of cbs sports.
