>> he was trying to bring people together for a pathway forward for peace. this is his legacy and the way we want to remember him. and a 49er rookie shot in union square before he could take the field. we'll have the latest on his condition. we begin tonight with vigil held in berkeley for hirsch goldman-polin. he was found dead. many blaming benjamin netanyahu for in their words sabotaging a cease fire deal with hamas that has been under negotiation for months. tonight at the synagogue attended by the family, hubs remembered to gather the life of the victim. >> reporter: right behind me is

the synagogue where hersh goldman-polin worshiped with his family. people gathered to remember the 23-year-old they saw as a symbol of hope. a symbol that is now gone. it was standing room over at congregation beth israel at a memorial remembering hersh goldman-polin. the 23-year-old was taken hostage by hamas. he was one of six hostages found dead this week in a tunnel in gaza. president joe biden says all were killed by hamas. >> completely heartbreaking. and crushing. there is profound grief and mourning in this unit. >> reporter: yonin is the rabbi

here where he utters his first prayer. >> it teaches us to go deep into the pain. to create greater space for it. that's what we are doing tonight. creating a sacred vessel to hold the tears. >> reporter: tears for shed by many including those who saw themselves in goldberg-polin. >> he was a young guy who loved music and sports. he was trying to bring people together for a pathway forward for peace. this is his legacy and the way we want to remember him. >> reporter: memorial attendees wrote messages to goldberg-polin before praying and remembering those who know the family. >> we know from knowing john and rachel, their strength will still be there. and hersh's memory will be for a blessing. >> hers. do you have any idea how many people love you? >> reporter: worshipers tell me

goldberg-polin was a symbol of hope to them. hope for the return of the hostages in hamas captivity and hope for the end of the bloodshed. but now, he is gone and the conflict continues. >> for many of us, we have been living in a period for which we often peel like our pain is not seen. and i can imagine those who stand on the other side feel that way, too. and i think we need to take a moment to acknowledge people's pain. we need to insist on hope. that is something that was important to hersh. and that was something that was important with his parents. and we cannot let that die with hersh. >> reporter: sophie and terry were also in attendance at the

memorial. councilmember han called hersh, quote, a child of berkeley and told attendees we stand with you, we mourn with you. >> white house says president biden spoke with the family today and offered his condolences. vice president kamala harris said she is praying for everyone who knew and loved hersh adding they are not alone and that americans around the world are sending them strength and love. in san francisco, there is some good news about 49ers rookie ricky pearsall. he is out of the hospital after being shot on saturday during a robbery attempt at union square. bullet holes and evidence markers were still visible in union square today along with an increase in the number of uniformed officers. at the same time, investigators continued to look at what led up to the shooting. our da lin caught up with mayor london breed. >> reporter: cell phone footage shows first responders walking

football player ricky pearsall to the ambulance. he was shot in the chest. a single bullet entered through the right side of his chest and exited out of his back missing vital organs. he was bloody but able to walk to the ambulance with help from the officers. >> i heard loud shots. i thought it was fire crackers. i heard maybe four or five shots. >> reporter: eric egan works at a corner store about 50 feet away from the shooting. he saw pearsall when they walked past each other on the street. eric says pearsall was going back to his car from shopping at nearby store. >> i noticed he had a pretty nice watch on. like a rolex. >> reporter: shortly after that, he heard the gunshots. he believes the robber targeted pearsall because of the expensive looking watch. he was almost back at his car near this tesla when a kid tried to rob him. pearsall fought with

the suspect. the 17-year-old suspect likely did not know he is a 49er football player. >> he was released from the hospital today and i know everybody has been praying for his speedy recovery and we are wishing him and his family well. >> reporter: our camera captured the three vehicles leaving sf general sunday afternoon. they were leaving in these cars. >> really a very horrible event to happen to anybody. and especially the 49ers is our beloved team. and so, it kind of, you know, puts a bit of a damper on all the incredible work we have been doing here in the city. the city, we have one of the lowest violent crime rates of any major city in the country and we have been making incredible gains around public safety. when something like this happens, those numbers that data, it doesn't matter. >> reporter: mayor london breed visited the square sunday afternoon. she answered questions from business owners and thanked the first responders. the ceo of union

square alliance says officers have stepped up patrol since the shooting. >> they are here, they will be tripling the enforcement for union square as they should. this is such an important, vital city center for our community to thrive. >> reporter: police arrested the 17-year-old suspect shortly after the shooting. police say the teenage boy was shot once by his own gun, possibly during the struggle with pearsall. they say the boy was in stable condition. >> i love the city. and i honestly, things are going to only get better. >> reporter: because of his age, police are not releasing too much information about the suspect. we only know he is 17 years old, from tracy, and the district attorney will determine the charges either by tuesday or wednesday. in san francisco, a man is under arrest after police say that he went on a crime spree throughout the city. it began with reports of a stabbing on roderick street this morning where police found a man who was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. the suspect was seen driving off

southbound toward fell street. police say that same person was involveed in a number of hit and runs across the city as well. one of them happening outside of brioche bakery. surveillance video shows the car knocking over a man and a dog on the side of the street. the car pulls back and drives off just as the man begins to get up. the employee tells us both the man and his dog were mostly unharmed. from there, police say they found the suspect's car near delores park. the suspect tried to drive his car into the patrol cruiser. police then chased after him for a few blocks until he bailed out of the car. the suspect then climbed the tree a block away. the suspect was taken to the hospital for injuries and charges are pending at this time. hotel workers across san

francisco hitting the picket line ahead of labor day during one of the busiest holiday travel weekends of the year. they joined more than 10,000 hotel and hospitality workers at 24 hotels across six major cities. all of it coming after months of failed negotiations with some of the country's biggest hotel chains like marriott, hilton, and hyatt. they are asking for better pay and working conditions as well as the return of some pre-covid policies like automatic daily room cleaning. >> wages are not keeping up with the room rates and with all the profits of the hotel companies are making. >> the wage proposals are designed for workers to be able to afford to live in the places they welcome people to. >> in a statement to cbs news, representatives from hyatt and hilton say they continue to look forward to negotiations with the union workers. marriott didn't respond to requests for comments. coming up, we are diving deep into the race to be san

it is the most important time of the newscast for my money. it's time to get the weather forecast which apparently, there are changes ahead. >> yeah. it will come on really fast. the rest of the weekend is great. but tuesday on the day, as soon as we go back to work, there is a dramatic turn around. so i want to start out with the seven day forecast to show you what the headline is. look at tomorrow. we will get everybody's number. but generalizing our inland valleys you are still in the mid 80s tomorrow. no doubt that has caught your attention. you are going for the mid 80s to 102.

from one day to the next. and then you will sit there for a few days. before you start cooling back down. we are going to come back to the rest of the the seven day ins a minute. i have some more micro climates to talk about. i want to give you an idea of how this plays out. by the way, this is inland east bay. north bay valleys. it will be hot in santa clara valley as well. and we will look at that in more detail in a second. first, how are we doing this how do things just kind of turn on a dime like that? and you have temperatures that do a big swing. one of the best way to visualize is to watch the wind. in the bay. all summer long we have been watching the on shore influence. tuesday rolls around, come down here, it is really brief. see it? opposite direction. there was a brief

glimpse there. we are getting into the time of year where we see that play out more on the virtual map than we have. often times you will hear that talked about in connection to fire weather concerns. we are not worried about fire weather but we are going to experience quite a jump in the temperatures. let's take one step back. you have fantastic holiday weekend. we will see a little bit of a marine layer in the morning. it will melt back. i'll get back here out the ocean. watch the clouds come back out here and sit there most of the day tomorrow. this is almost an exact repeat of what you did today. the numbers

are pretty much all identical. so we already looked at the inland micro climates. so inland east bay, north bay valleys. san jose falls between the cracks. you are usually noticeably warmer. so your numbers are not quite at 100. but you are in the 90s when you do your warmup. the final one we want to do to give us an idea of how this goes, let's take the other end of the screen. your temperatures are going to get as warm as 81 in san francisco. oakland, mid 80s . so you can gauge from these three micro climates how this plays out. look at the end of the seven day for san francisco. that's average. all right, bryan, back to you. >> thank you darren. coming up after the break, we will begin our election

a lot of people are runing to be san francisco's next mayor, there is a non-profit executive, two supervisors and a former mayor. all are trying to unseat current mayor london breed who is fighting for another four years on the job. so we are spending the next week getting to know them and their platforms better. we begin tonight with mark ferrell. >> ready for football. >> reporter: it is not just election season for mark ferrell, it is also the start of football season.

a source of pride. >> reporter: importants and parenting go hand in hand coaching his kids on and off the field. >> if we are going to bring our city back, we have to be honest about where we sit to have a sustained path forward. leadership is a big part of that. and taking that from the athletic field, to city hall, it's a very natural extension. >> reporter: it is an extension he has made before. mayor in 2017. after eight years of watching from the sidelines he is hoping to get back into the political field. for mark, it is his family, he says, that has brought him this far. >> a family is such a big part of our lives and a big part of my life. and like i said, nobody is perfect. our children aren't. i'm not. but really proud of who they are as human beings more than anything else. and again, if that's the one

well, the bigon point lighthouse has been a beacon at the san mateo coastline for years. but that beacon has been crumbling. but taxpayers to the rescue as millions are being poured into it to keep it shining eventually. >> reporter: this is the lighthouse at pigeon point. a ray of hope dating back to when ulysees grant was president. but the lighthouse, tallest on the west coast, was falling apart. >> it is very much a bit of a

coast guard operates nearly 300 light stations. >> reporter: that has been true since 1939 and they shut down access to the lighthouse because of the damage in 2001. but not to the jewel in the pigeon point crowd. >> come on in and take a look at the first order. sat on top of the lighthouse, 1872. 1,008 individual pieces of glass. all 1,008 individual pieces of glass are still here. >> reporter: and this, the visitors can still see. >> we are a free park. once construction is completed, the coast guard will reinstall a light. >> reporter: which will still be a beacon to sailors who use their i phones to navigate. >> this is still a useful meaningful lighthouse. if they

welcome back. willy mays will be honored in a special way in san francisco. a portion of a freeway will be renamed willy mays highway. state lawmakers from the bay area passed a resolution to designate a portion of i-80 near oracle park to mays. the signs will be paid for with private funding. no time line on when that stretch of the freeway, though, will be renamed. well, on the subject of sports, the quarterback at james madison university showed everybody this weekend that if football doesn't work out, he could always have a future in
