firefighters have up containment to 40%. one firefighter who has been working hard to protect other people's homes is now sifting through the rubble of his own home. it just burnt down in the boils fire. edward martinez has lived there with his family for the last four years. he came back to this after battling a fire in the last week and a half. >> for myself , i just got home from the coffee pot fire. it just sucks . you know, how fast this can move and i'd just glad my family and my dogs are safe. >> his family and his dog are safe. we's scent are wilson walker to the front lines of the fires were resident told him just how quickly flames leveled homes.

>> reporter: speaking with folks that were here on sunday afternoon they described it as a pretty normal day, relatively light winds until suddenly the picked up the fire was on this neighborhood. it happened fast. >> the fire had jumped well over 19th avenue and that is where it started hitting all these houses right down the line. >> reporter: robert burns watched the fire perch from his back fence and within minutes the embers were landing on his home and the house next door as the fire eventually carved a hopscotch path through his neighborhood. >> all these houses right over here, these older ones , these all took like eight or nine houses here. 20th alone. >> there saying 30 structures lost and 42s 60 vehicles damaged, as well. >> reporter: autumn lancaster is the lake county fire marshal. >> the fire came from this area here . a lot of raw land behind commercial and residential areas . a lot of brush, a lot

immediately. but it was just in exactly the wrong spot and all those buildings. the smoke produced by that fire has been much less of a factor today and i think that is the case as we head into the next couple of days. there are other fires burning elsewhere in the state. let's bring our map of california here and i will step out of the way. a lot of smoke in southern california. that is really where it is going to be concentrated and on shore breeze is going to bring that on the cooler air but also oakland hills. stronger onshore air quality to the bay area ore over the course of the next several days. i see the fires in southern california occasionally pulsing up and producing new plumes of smoke. that will be the case tomorrow and again on wednesday. in the short term, though, let's talk about our weather and things are looking pretty good for the next few days. a cooling trend will be evident across the bay
11:20 pm
area tomorrow even east of the oakland hills. stronger onshore breeze, deeper marine layer, more cloud cover all adding up to cooler temperatures. high temperatures bounce back on wednesday. we will be near average from wednesday through the first half of the weekend another cooldown kicks in by sunday and monday of next week. ups and downs in the seven-day forecast. let's talk about our current temperatures and those are running in the 50s and 60s. looking outside and sing a little bit of fog in the distance. looking to the oakwood hills from salesforce tower and behind the buildings of downtown san francisco from treasure island. anywhere from 54 degrees in santa rosa to 58 in san francisco and 39 already in livermore. warm spot right now in san jose is not warm so we had cooled off nicely after it was a warm to even hot day inland for especially in parts of the east bay. the fog will continue to spread out. it will be a widespread and pretty deep marine layer by tomorrow morning. the fog shows up in bright white. the dollar rate is upper atmosphere. won't start to the skies overhead, as well . those two factors with that stronger on shore breeze all combining to bring our temperatures to about five to 10 degrees below average and we will start to warm up until that fog starts to back up to
11:21 pm
the coast and it will take a little bit of time for that to happen so let's talk about where we end up for our high temperatures tomorrow. it is actually the map underneath so you can get a sense of scale here . temperatures are going to be a mix of mostly 70s and if you low 80s inland .77 in san jose , 81 in los gatos. 82 has been the warm spot for the entire bay area. even around antioch temperatures only topping off around 80 degrees. mid-to-upper 70s. those numbers are running close to 10 degrees below average. mid-60s for san francisco, right around 70 across the bay in oakland with temperatures in the north bay only getting up into the low 70s because the early morning fog is really going to be just morning fog for the north bay with temperatures slow to warm up as a result of that fog decides to back up to the coast. look at the long-range forecast, we are going to return to near normal as we head into the rest of the work week and the first half of the weekend but beyond that, the 62s ten-day outlook shows cool temperatures not just for the bay area but for most of california and eight to 14 day outlook continues that trend of
11:22 pm
cooler than normal temperatures. you ready for a little taste of autumn you do get it tomorrow and you probably get more but a little farther down the line. you can see the beginnings of that cooling thread toward the tail end of the seven-day forecast. a little roller coaster ride but even the hottest days unlikely to bring any widespread 90 plus degree days to the bay area. ups and downs, but a little more subtle compared to inland locations. near average from wednesday to saturday cooling off again and along the coast really not much changed to our temperatures but you will see a little more sunshine peeking through wednesday, thursday and friday and then the fog is back saturday, sunday and monday and a little bit of drizzle and mr., as well . that is only moisture. for two stolen birds. >> what you're saying one day of fall but don't get too excited and start getting your pumpkins and all that just yet. >> don't break out all the fall closed it yet. so a pet store owner in concord is asking you to be on
