this is "cbs news mornings." breaking overnight -- sean "diddy" combs under arrest six months after the dramatic raids on the hip-hop mogul's l.a. and miami homes, also -- >> all of a sudden, we heard shots were being fired in the air. >> former president donald trump speaking for the first time about the second apparent attempt on his life, as investigators reveal new details about the suspected gunman and a possible motive. well, good morning and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. breaking overnight, sean "diddy" combs was arrested by federal agents in new york under a sealed criminal indictment. details of the charges against the hip-hop mogul are not known, but it comes after a series of allegations in recent months of alleged sexual assault and violence. in march, homeland security agents raided combs' home in miami against sex trafficking

and other possible crimes. combs' attorney said his client is innocent. and called it an unjust prosecution. prosecutors say they will unseal the indictment and have more information into the case this morning. now into the investigation into the second assassination attempt. riley wesley routh is facing two federal firearms charges. federal court documents reveal he was camped outside of trump's golf course for more than 12 hours. authorities say he never fired at trump and never had trump in his sight. the incident is raising questions about trump's security and today, he returns to the campaign trail with a town hall in michigan. cbs' jarred hill joins us with the latest developments. good morning. hey, good morning, anne-marie, former president trump has spoken with the head of the secret service, as well as with president biden, specifically about the issue of security since the latest attempt on his life. said that biden asked if he needs more agents on his detail.

police body cam footage shows the arrest of ryan wesley routh, the man accused of trying to assassinate former president trump at his golf club in west palm beach over the weekend. >> all of a sudden, we heard shots being fired in the air. >> reporter: last night on x, the former president described the moments when according to charging documents a u.s. secret service agent saw what looked like a rifle poking from the tree line and then fired shots in that direction. >> secret service knew immediately it was bullets. and they grabbed me. everybody just -- we got into the carts and we moved along pretty good. >> reporter: the 58-year-old fled unharmed and was later taken into custody about 50 miles away. routh, a north carolina native, with a criminal record appeared in court on monday on two federal gun charges. investigators found a high caliber rifle with its serial number scratched out a digital camera and some food. according to authorities cell phone records show he may have

been near the golf course as far back as 12 hours before the incident. >> he did not fire or get off any shots at our agents. the protected methodologies of the secret service -- >> reporter: acting secret service director ronald rowe said his agency has beefed up trump's protection following the july assassination attempt in butler, pennsylvania. president biden said the agency needs more help. he condemned the political violence monday before speaking with trump by phone. the biden administration has asked congress for flexibility to boost what it spends on the secret service. meanwhile, anne-marie, investigators continue digging into the suspect's social media posts and try to get a warrant for his car and cell phone, and try to figure out why this happened. back to you. >> gerald hill in new york, thank you, jarred. donald trump is blaming democrats for enflaming political rhetoric. but the former president's own words seem to be increasing

the owner of a creole restaurant. >> you say cat, you say dog, i say no. >> reporter: he says trump and vance should apologize. >> haitians are good people. >> reporter: governor dewine said all of these bomb threats have been hoaxes so far, and he tells me that many of these calls are coming from overseas, from a specific country, although he wouldn't go into more detail, nikole killion, cbs news, springfield, ohio. new details this morning on that massive pipeline explosion that sent flames shooting in texas. officials now say a driver plowed through a fence and struck an aboveground valve, setting off the disaster in the city of deer park, roughly 20 miles southeast of houston. investigators say it appears to be an isolated incident. the story from cbs' janet shamlian. >> reporter: a raging pillar of fire spewing from the ground. >> people all over houston are able to see the smoke and the flames from the distance.

a liquid pipeline explosion lighting the sky. just a couple hundred feet from a neighborhood in deer park, texas, near houston. >> talk about what it feels like out here right now? >> tense, stressful. >> reporter: a tornado of smoke, a children's playground burning, the radiating heat enough to set the closest homes ablaze. >> i understand nearby a refinery and pipelines, but i never expected it to be this bad. i'm still kind of like -- in shock. i might even have to get a hotel tonight because of this explosion. >> reporter: it's now been several hours since the fire started, it's still going strong. more firemen have arrived here, they're hosing down the homes in an effort to save them. mandatory evacuations for dozens, others were told to shelter in place. at one point, almost 1,000 customers were without power as temperatures soared into the mid-90s. this area has 12 companies operating pipelines within the neighborhood. >> there were a lot of people

seeing the fire started due to a car hitting the pipeline? >> there was a possibility. >> reporter: the pipeline has been shut down. but it will be hours before the natural gas inside of it burns itself out. >> it's devastating just just to see this in the back of my yard. >> reporter: the pipeline is still on fire right now, it's located behind the home that you see on this street. it's one of about a dozen pipelines in this neighborhood, in a neighborhood filled with petrol chemical plants. janet shamlian, cbs news, deer park, texas. a powerful storm battered the north and south carolina coasts with a record amount of rain and damaging winds. it's being described as a one in a 1,000-year event, it dumped as much as 18 inches of rain in north carolina in just 12 hours. it flooded streets and stranded rivers in carolina beach where the mayor declared a state of emergency. the governor urged people to stay off the roads in areas affected by the storm. there's a risk of flooding in virginia today as the storm moves north. coming up, submersible investigation.

forensic sketches of the a possible victim of suspected gilgo beach serial killer rex heuermann. the victim's unidentified remains were found on new york's long island in 2011, not far from where other bodies were discovered. authorities believe the person was an asian male sex worker who possibly identified as a woman. they released new images to try and identify the victim. heuermann has pleaded not guilty to killing six woman. the "san antonio express" said emotions erupted after a court hearing for a former uvalde school trick police chief pete arrendondo. arrendondo and other officer have pleaded not guilty for their involvement in a mass shooting in the school in 2022. 19 children and two teachers died. for many of the victims yesterday, it was the first time seeing arrendondo in person. >> we seen him outside. as i was walking in, it was

facebook and instagram owner meta says that it is banning rt and other russian state media from its platform. meta claims they used deceptive tactics to carry out covert online influence operations, including foreign interference activity. it comes days after the u.s. filed charges against two rt employees who are accused of an alleged scheme to influence this year's presidential election. and lawyers for tiktok and its chinese company bytedance asked a federal appeals court in washington to block the planned u.s. ban of the social media app. they claim it's unconstitutional. a law signed by president biden will ban tiktok in this country unless bytedance sells it to a non-chinese company by january 19th. amazon has a message for workers and the boeing strike is also impacting the company. here's shanelle kaul with today's "moneywatch." stocks were mixed monday

with the dow setting a record high as investors await what could be the first federal rate cut in four years. the dow gained 228 points, the nasdaq was down 91 and the s&p 500 was up 7 points. boeing is trying to save cash amid an ongoing machine workers' strike. the company said in a memo monday, it is planning a hiring freeze, a reduction in travel and considering temporary layoffs. about 33,000 workers are calling for higher wages. the union and boeing reps are set to meet with federal mediators today. get ready to get back to the office. amazon is reverting to its prepandemic policy requiring employees to come into the office five days a week. the move will start next year. and in a message to employees, ceo andy jassy said it's probably not going to work out for workers who refuse. and the future is here at chipotle. the fast food mexican chain is
