you were a kid. for those of you who played sports you will remember the excitement of a new season. meeting with your team, coaches, the feeling that anything could happen. that was what supposed to be the case for a group of young baseball players over in the east bay. the youth baseball league had a lot to look forward to until all of their equipment was vandalized and burned to a crisp. as andrea nakano reports, they did not let their season go up in smoke. >> go, go, motion. >> reporter: call it again. >> coach williams runs youth sports in san pablo. >> when you got that ball you got to hit it. >> reporter: on this night he was coaching the football team but many play multiple sports. >> all of the players play football play for the baseball, even like that little guy right there, he may be tiny and bowlegged but he is a heck of a player. >> keeping them active in

sports is important, he lost his nephew to gun violence 20 years ago. when he saw the baseball team storage container on monday. >> devastated. totally. devastating. >> reporter: the police say it was this man, 30-year-old transient who stole items from the storage container and set the rest on fire. >> i said, wow, is this what we deserve? >> reporter: roughly $100,000 in equipment gone in a matter of hours the kids thought their fall ball season was over. >> he did it because he liked, he just did not care, really? so, i was devastated after i heard about the fire. >> reporter: coach williams tried to remain positive especially for his kids. >> and when they seen all of the stuff that was out. it really hit them then. wow, what, what are we going to do? i said what we are going to do is move forward, guys. this is nothing but a molehill. god will see us through.

>> reporter: they conquered it. thanked to the community. >> this is a start hopefully we will have another load to see what they need. >> usually opponents, neighbors dropped off donations. coach william's truck is filled with equipment from another generous donor and strangers pitched in, thousands of dollars to an online fundraiser. the league thought the season was over but the community came together so that these kids can play ball this weekend. >> now i feel hopeful now. now, i know that there are kind people in the world who really do care about baseball and who ever done it, probably a great person. now we turn to the south bay. three people hunted a man down and slashed him with a machete over and over again. much of that attack was caught on camera. when we saw the suspect's mug shots we realized kpix is very familiar

with one of these men. >> reporter: san jose police arrested three suspects, they believe brutally attacked a man using machete's in a parking lot back in june. >> our detectives were able to locate who of the suspects on september 10th and arrest them and book them. a third suspect was also arrested and booked on september 11th the following day. >> reporter: they identified the three suspects as 43-year-old, 41-year-old, and 43-year-old. the police say surveillance video from the attack helped to identify them. a warning. it is graphic. you can see them kicking and punching the victim. one can clearly be seen holding a machete. the second half of the video it is so graphic we are not showing it here. the police say the victim was slashed several times and taken to the

hospital with major injuries. >> we have no room in san jose in inner community for violent criminals as three three adult male suspects, i want to commend officers and detectives for acting swiftly and making sure they are no longer on our city streets threatening the lives of anyone. we learned one of the suspects arrest is a man that we have interviewed in the past. back in may we spoke with eddie herena about an art exhibit he was in. he spent nearly 15 years in prison and took up photography and continued it. in our interview he described coming to terms with the crimes he had committed >> i just have to look at my life and, and, reflect on the things that i did in the past. and like, i did a lot of ugly stuff. >> a professor of justice studies at san jose state. he says if herena committed another extremely violent crime after being released from prison it will be out of the

ordinary compared to what statistics usually suggest. >> like this case in the sense of it is sensational violence it is rare. especially for a man of his age. >> reporter: john says normally as people get older they are less likely to resort to violence. even people with prior convictions. >> so, what we see in this case is, really, an outlier case. keep that in mind with the brodder contest of people coming out of prison. >> herena and the others remain behind bars charged with attempted murder. ahead of the bob lee trial, attorneys made their cases on everything from drug use to the murder weapon even a nickname. the suspect is accused of stabbing the cash app founder to death. we did not have the cameras in the courtroom today.

but his family and his ex-wife were there. the defense team filed a motion to discuss the drug use and the prosecution does not want the jury to hear lee's nickname "crazy bob." the judge denied a motion from the defense to limit certain details about the murder weapon. the prosecution claims the knife is the same brand as a set found in his sister's apartment. the hears start up again on monday. all right, we definitely had weird weather today. a time lapse from our camera over san jose shows the clouds rolling in and out, a beautiful shot. you know, we saw the sprinkles as promised and we saw a little bit of sun. it was briefly kind of warm where i was in the city. i guess the question is, will tomorrow be more of the same up and down? >> not too many sprinkles, not too much humidity. that is why it felt warmer than we are used to. we are not used to mugginess in the bay area. it felt a little humid. tomorrow, getting closer to what is typical for this time of the year. not by a lot the storm

you very much. >> dozens of people are suing the company that puts on tough mutter events with they were infected with a dangerous bacteria after a race last year the group filed suit yesterday, they claim that people that ran it at sonoma raceway in august of 2023 broke out in rashes or got sick after the race including evan goldsmith who participated in dozens of these events before. >> the rash is really unsightly and itchy and gross. but it felt like i had a terrible migraine and a fever with it. it was really frustrating that there was an email thread with a bunch of people who gotten ill and the ceo and the ceo kept promising once the investigation is complete we will let you know what it is that happened and what we are going to do to fix it. and then we just never heard back. >> reporter: so, the lawsuit

claims that organizers used untreated water on the course. it contained a bacteria. it claims dozens of which rn and adults were sickened after the race. some with fevers, headaches, vomiting and as you heard, rashes, like the one that you see here. we have a photo of another participant who shared a rash with us by the attorney filing suit. >> they went and they got that water, they threw it and hosed it throughout the course in the mud and then if you did not happen to get sick in the water from the mud, they threw it in the shower so when you were washing off the bacteria you got it there. >> the group's lawyer says flop of their clients, several that had to go to the doctor or hospital got refunds. we reached out to them but have not heard back. rapper sean "p" diddy combs was denied bail again and ordered to stay in jail until his trial. he is charged with

federal sex trafficking and racketeering. >> reporter: sean "p" diddy combs listened as the judge ordered him to remain behind bars pending his trial that could take a year. his family was visibly upset as they left the courthouse. >> do you realistically see him spending most of the time behind bars before trial? >> it is very much a possibility at this point. >> reporter: combs is facing up to life in prison on multiple charges that include sex trafficking and racketeering. the 54-year-old offered to post $50 million bond, give up his cell phone and internet access and restricting female visitors to family or mothers of his children had he been released the multimillion dollar grammy winner will be housed at the metro politan detention center in brooklyn, new york. a overcrowded facility that is disgusting and inhumane, as it has been described. combs is a

monday, tuesday of next week. so, enjoy this taste of autumn while it lasts. take a look outside right now. we have plenty of fog already, swallowing up parts of san francisco. you can see it from treasure island and you can see it certainly from salesforce tower while it looks towards the south and see the glow in the distance as dreamforce concert still ongoing. temperatures in the 60s, down to the 50 san francisco and santa rosa. everybody will end up in the 50s by the morning. the fog will not be confined to coastal parts of the bay area and the city. it will spread out. take a look on the map. we are talking gray skies in most of the bay area to begin the day tomorrow. in the first couple hours of daylight we will see cracks in the cloud cover. it will retreat to the coast heading towards midday. earlier retreat of the fog means the temperatures are going to warm up to a greater exat the present time. starting off in the 50s everywhere. we will warm up into the lower 80s in the santa clara valley. 80 in san jose. temperatures east

of the oakland hills, into the lower 80s as well. when the hottest spots are at 82 degrees in the middle of september we are doing just fine. compared to where we are going to be by sunday, monday, tuesday. around the bay, temperatures in the north bay, not as warm as other parts, only in the 70s tomorrow, the fog and low cloud cover will hang on a little longer. put the brakes on the warm up to a greater extent for the north bay by tomorrow afternoon. let's take a look at the national perspective here. looking for changes. showing you where it is coming from. i will stand over the bay area to get your geographic perspective. keep your bearings as we turn on the temperatures. temperatures running 5-10 degrees above normal. widen the clock forward through the rest of this week and into the weekend. it gets erased boy yellow. normal temperatures. more orange and redheading into monday and tuesday of next week. they look like the

hottest days in the forecast. temperatures back down a little bit t. does not look like we are going to be getting back to this taste of fall anytime soon. in fact, the 6-10 day outlook. takes us close to the end of the month shows a significant signal towards warmer than normal conditions, then, october, it continues that trend. warmer than normal conditions expected through this month and into the beginning of next month. now, another question. going to be choked up about it. the question will be how far above normal are we going to be. not as far by sunday, monday, tuesday. inland temperatures. middle to upper 90s. it will be toasty out there especially away from the water. even around the bay. the temperatures will warm up from the 70s for the next few days up into the lower 80s by sunday, monday, tuesday. while we will not have strong offshore winds to push the warm air all of the way down to the coast. what we are going to have is enough of a reduction in the marine influence for
