>>spinning >>out now on bay area, they are familiar to sideshows. a car burning in the middle of the street, even gunshots. is the bay about to get serious on cracking down? the owners of the san francisco dispensary just can't catch a break. and it's the game no one wanted to see happen, but everyone wanted to be at. how the a's made a big showing at the coliseum as the team gets ready to say good-bye to oakland. hi, i'm sara donchey. this is such an important week in bay area sports history. if you ask a's fans, they'll tell you it's all for the wrong

days. this is the last credential in almost 35 years of covering this team. >> yeah, it's tough. i think a lot of people are counting their first and their last this week, vern. >> this one goes to the man cave. >> i'm sure it does. it's an impression collection there. the a's have one more game tomorrow. they will play their last game ever at the coliseum on thursday. the first pitch is at 12:37. look at this, one of our tower cams caught this deep orange sunset over san jose tonight. we were just talking about it being unusually hot this time of the year, but it looks like there is some fall weather on the way. finally if you did not like all this heat, zoe mintz has more on that. >> i wanted it to be cool and more spring, fall like, seasonal, what it should be this time of the year. in fact, tomorrow might be a couple degrees below average as a cold front will be moving across the state as we step out over the next this hours. right now, it is still warm out there, just

depending on where you were located. it was a really hot day behind us. look at our max temperatures. livermore reached 102 degrees, 101, just depending on where you were there. antioch, 98 degrees, along with fairfield, upper 90s. this time of the year, very unfall like. like we were saying, but it's only going to get cooler and cooler from here. just look at our temperature change. this hours ago, we were a couple of degrees warmer along the coastal communities. 12 degrees warmer yesterday. in san francisco, our inland areas, just a couple of degrees warmer. but either way, today is significantly cooler and the cooler air will persist through tomorrow. i'll break down the details on how long this cool air will stick around coming up in my full forecast. look at that, people standing in a ring of fire while cars were spinning out around them. that was in vallejo just a few weeks ago. it was another illegal side show here in the bay area. that time it ended with a shooting

that killed one person. and they are not just shutting down intersections. we've seen people completely blocking the eastern span of the bay bridge. we've seen cops chase them from street to street basically playing whack-a-mole. in santa rosa, cinco de mayo sideshows attracted hundreds of people back in 2022. in san jose, we've seen people call for changes like traffic circles to try to stop sideshows. we've been busy ourselves covering them for years. >> this car fish tailed and spun out in front of a tight circle of spectators. some of them were firing guns into the air. >> it is just very upsetting and frightening. >> reporter: now gunfire is frequently heard. at one sideshow, a car was set ablaze and repeatedly rammed by another car. >> police say about 20 atvs and dirt bikes started an illegal sideshow. there were fights that led to shootings. police found as many as 50 shell

casings on the ground. >> we've had vehicles fly into people's businesses, living rooms at 3:00 in the morning. >> and they crash sometimes really close to our house. >> this summer, neighbors in one oakland neighborhood were so fed up they used tires to block the street, but the city took them away after a car hit one of them and flipped on their side. still, people in the neighborhood said they were tired of waiting for the city to do something to stop this. >> and that is what oakland used to be. we took matters into our own hand. we made sure our community and our youth was protected. >> if we called police, they would say they cannot do anything. >> neighbors even installed their own speed bumps. as our kelsi thorud reports, city supervisors across the bay and san francisco are just days away from upping penalties. one of them, allowing cars to be

permanently impounded. >> reporter: molly tello says almost every weekend, as many as 100 people from dirt bikes take over her neighborhood, speeding down streets and blowing through traffic lights. >> doing acrobatics on their bikes. looking like they might fall off and kill themselves. they are just going past the house. >> reporter: sideshows have long been an issue in the bay area. groups of people in cars and on bikes, taking over roads and intersections. molly says it has gotten so bad on the embarcadero that even locals know when and where the bikers meet up. >> we saw them congregating down in front of the dolphin club. it's something police seem like they should be aware of. >> reporter: police say they are aware of the sideshows. to try to help sfpd crack down on them. the city is in the process of passing new laws

that would make promoting and participating in sideshows illegal. one of those behind the moves, supervisor matt dorsey said in a statement, with the passage of this legislation, we are making it clear that illegal sideshows will not be tolerated in san francisco. still, some locals, like juliette, say they are not too sure a new law will actually change anything. >> i think it just moves from one street to the other most of the time, like they've seen in oakland where they would try to outlaw the street shows, whatever sideshows, whatever they call them, and they would move to another corner or down the block. i hope it works. >> reporter: molly says she too is nervous, but optimistic about this legislation. she hopes it will give police an upperhand before sideshows even happen. >> and the people who are actually participating in them on the bikes that need to be stopped before they get started. >> there is also a new

crackdown at the state level. this week, governor newsom signed four new bills to make it easier for law enforcement to impound cars involved in illegal sideshows including cars driven by spectators. meantime today reporters asked newsom if they thought about a cabinet position in the white house if v.p. harris were to be elected president. >> oh gosh, that's the last thing on my mind. what is on my mind is getting through your 200 remaining bills. that's not on my mind. >> well, he's insisting the white house is not on his mind. harris is pushing to change senate rules to secure reproductive rights nationwide. >> i think we should eliminate the filibuster. 51 votes would be what we need to actually put back in law the protections for reproductive freedom. >> and also former president trump told pennsylvania voters last night that he would protect women.

lebanon. this is the scene this afternoon. protesters held signs calling for an end to the war and bombings in the middle east. this comes after targeted attacks in lebanon using pagers and walkie-talkies killed dozens last week. and on monday, they killed at least 500 people. it is no secret cannabis dispensaries across the state are fighting an uphill battle to turn a profit and compete with black markets. it's been even harder. the owner said thieves have hit them four times in only three months, but the last time really stands out. shortly before 5:00 on tuesday morning, surveillance video shows two cars pulling up to the front of the cannabis culture store along judah street. these masked individuals are seen jumping swiftly out of the car, tools in hand, breaking into the dispensary.

>> they had a car with a chain that pulled off the outer gate, and then they would use the same vehicle to drive straight through or roll down the glass door in the front entrance. >> reporter: there is also a witness nearby who recorded video of what was happening. and surveillance video showing around two minutes before the burglary. a police car drove along the same street. >> i spend 80% of my week at the store. >> reporter: instead of opening the dispensary doors to customers like he always does, the general manager is instead picking up broken glass everywhere. and figuring out what was stolen and how much. >> it is a big stigma for

everybody else. we are just a retailer, trying to make it like everyone else. it looks like they would knock through the sledgehammer of some kind, i think. >> reporter: he says it is a pain they need to get used to. working in a local business. he says they have been struggling as it is and even with insurance, their shop will have to make up for all the repairs from the burglary. >> just come back when we're open. that's all i ask. >> reporter: customers and neighbors tell us they were heartbroken to see the damages. >> this is a decent neighborhood. but if you have property that's accessible, people are going to go and violate it. >> reporter: meanwhile he hopes the community will still come out to support the dispensary. >> and we have supported a lot of local neighborhood. we don't want them to feel unsafe

because they're here. >> on the peninsula, 15 people are safe to want on poplar avenue in redwood city. firefighters say the fire broke out in a two-story home and then it just started spreading. the good news is no resident or firefighter got hurt. and it was a hot day out there as they felt it all over the bay area and still warm. >> definitely hot with a big cool down on the way with cooler weather along with moist air, both great things when it comes to wildfire danger. it will arrive, something you could enjoy before the gradual heat up will move back in. and let's enjoy tomorrow and look back on today. it was a beautiful day, at least here in san francisco. a couple degrees cooler than yesterday as we saw that fog that would continue to

roll in and that fog just got thicker and thicker as that sun sets. and that fog just grew thicker and thicker with a little bit of mist out there, likely seeing more mist and maybe a little bit of drizzle overnight tonight, waking up early tomorrow morning. dealing with more of this moisture and that flow and cooler temperatures. right now san francisco is feeling the upper 50s. concord, you're in the mid-60s and just depending on where you are located. either way everybody will be feeling cooler temperatures by tomorrow afternoon. and as that heat dome and high pressure system that did impact us yesterday and today is not going to be impacting us for much longer. and they will allow a cold front to move through where it is really interesting to see

the area of high pressure just by the lack of cloud coverage across the western half of the united states. it's rotating around it in a clockwise direction. as an area of low pressure is approaching, that system is associated with a cold front where you can actually see that cold front visibly by looking at that thin layer of clouds that will be heading our way and that is the reason cooler weather will arrive tomorrow. very interesting to see that cold front just by looking at water vapor. and we will continue to see more araving in the form of fog and cloud coverage compared to the sunshine and heat that we have felt. overnight tonight, it will be significant chillier especially inland, compared to what we woke up to this morning. sitting in the upper 50s to the low 60s, compared to the mid to upper 50s we felt overnight last night. coastal communities, you'll be sitting in the

mid-60s or mid-50s, excuse me. you'll need to grab a jacket early tomorrow morning. it's tomorrow afternoon that you're going to be feeling the impacts of those cooler temperatures. inland communities, nearly 20 degrees cooler than what we felt today. livermore at triple digits and you might reach 80 degrees. oakland, upper 60s. such a nice change of pace and more of that cloud cover, where they will stay stuck into early tomorrow morning. luckily again, big changes are on the way. it's only going to last one day though. if we take a look at our seven-day forecast, we have the weather whiplash that we will be dealing with, jumping by 10 degrees by thursday. then by friday, back up to the mid-90s and looking at more of that excessive heat before dying back down and getting a bit more seasonable by the later parts of the upcoming week. for areas closer
