clear. we are being told by officials who are warning that it could take several weeks. >> reporter: i'm annicole valde. we're feeling hurricane-force winds. earlier it was all about the tornado warnings. more than 40 issued across the state of florida and about a dozen confirmed touching down in just a matter of hours. areas in fort myers we found pretty significant damage. several homes had roofs ripped off. window shattered. pieces of fences scattered across the road there. s.w.a.t. members of the fort myers police department going out to check and see if people in that community were doing okay. looked like many already evacuated ahead of this storm. but absolutely an interesting impact that many floridians may not have necessarily been expecting as they prepared for, again, what could still be a devastating hurricane for many across the sunshine state.
3:38 am
>> reporter: i'm manuel bojorquez in orlando where people went to bed concerned about the possible damage from the wind, but really what officials have stressed here is that the rainfall could cause flash flooding. they were hoping that people had gotten to higher ground before the storm hit the area. in fact, we spoke with people who said they lived in low-lying areas of orlando that flooded during hurricane ian in 2022. so they were not willing to take any chances. there were also people who rode out the storm here in orlando who evacuated from the west coast who were escaping the storm's surge. so officials will begin to assess the damage and start the cleanup. and of course the major attractions here, those giant theme parks, likely will remain closed thursday until further notice. >> reporter: i'm in daytona beach where the conditions are

seriously deteriorating. we are feeling the full force of milton right now. i want to tell you exactly what we're seeing on the ground. if you look all the way at those lights down the street, you can see that the rain is practically going sideways. palm trees are getting knocked around like bowling pins. and the rain, the gusts is intense. as we look ahead to the hours in the morning, we will see more of these hurricane force winds, more of this rain. for the most part people have evacuated out of this area. ise that good thing. >> definitely a good thing, tom. thanks. we want to thank all of our reporters and crews for keeping us informed during this storm. coming up, stopping storm disinformation. president biden's response to donald trump's false claims about disaster relief. and the president speaks with israel's leader for the first time in months.
