now at 11:00, the drama inside a san francisco courtroom spilled out into the hallway. >> my husband was murdered. she has no right to take -- she has no right to make herself a victim in this when our family was the one that got murdered. so she can go [ bleep ] herself. >> why one of the family members of a slain tech ceo was barred from the room. plus -- >> the place seemed rally creepy. >> -- the search for a missing person takes a disturbing turn. plus, members of one south

bay community are quick to point out who's been a bad neighbor. >> and it got lit on fire twice, actually. >> the empty lot they say is more than just an eyesore. from kpix this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. >> hi, i'm sara donchey. police officers see all kinds of things on the job, no two days are the same, but when officers were called to a home in union city to look for a missing woman, they found something that they could have never imagined they would see. a mummified body hunched over a toilet seat. but as andrea nakano explains, it wasn't the person police were looking for. >> reporter: this mystery started unravelling about two months ago when a family member called police asking them to come by the house to check in on 95-year-old nadine parker. as it turns out, parker had already been moved to a senior home two years ago, but then officers made a gruesome
1:40 am
discovery inside the home. the house is tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac on the east side of union city. it would be easy to miss if it wasn't for the trash. >> the back sxrard the front yard was just filled with trash, and it was piled up to ten feet high or so with trash. and we always wondered about it because the place seemed really creepy. >> reporter: but neighbors were shocked to hear that a mummified body of a man was found on the toilet inside the home. sergeant brandon heyward with the union city police department believes the remains were there for weeks, if not months. he added it isn't uncommon for police to find people dead in the bathroom. the body wasn't wrapped in cloth but the remains had started to dry up because of the temperatures inside the enclosed bathroom. police say the house overall was in horrible condition with trash scattered everywhere. they found another man alive but in bad condition with mold growing out of his ear. neighbors say they frequently see him walking down the street.
1:41 am
>> yeah, we see him out three times a week or so. and again, he's always been nonthreatening. i always wondered how he was cared for. >> i saw the older guy and the youngest one, he's going early in the morning walking on to the safeway. every day. >> reporter: police say the man they found alive is one of nadine parker's two sons. in mid-august union city police issued a silver alert for parker who suffered from alzheimer's. while she was found safe, sergeant heyward says the son suffers from some sort of mental illness. they believe the body in the bathroom may belong to his brother and say they believe he died of natural causes. the coroner's office is still looking into the cause of death and trying to match dna to positively identify the body. police do not believe foul play was involved. she has no right to make
1:42 am
herself a victim in this. >> there have been plenty of explosive moments in the trial of nima momeni, the man accused of killing cashapp founder bob lee, but this time the drama spilled out into the hallways of the courthouse. those comments you just heard were from bob lee's ex-wife about the suspect's sister who took the stand today for what could be her final time. momeni's sister's testimony is important because she spent a lot of time with lee on the night of his murder. lauren toms has more on the heated moments that led one family member being barred from the courtroom. >> reporter: sara, a stunning moment today but this time outside of the courtroom. bob lee's family has sat through days of testimony from khazar momeni, testimony they've called fabricated. today evidence turned to include private text messages from bob's ex-wife christa, and she had a stark message for khazar,
1:43 am
all of this prompting the judge to temporarily halt proceedings to question each juror about what they may have overheard in the hallway. all with concerns that this could have led to a mistrial. >> she has no right to make herself a victim in this when our family was the one that got murdered. so she can go [ bleep ] herself. >> reporter: a fiery response from krista lee . her words come after khazar momeni testified about a private text message sent by krista to her friend trying to find khazar so she could be subpoenaed as a witness. she asked every her friend wanted to eplay detective by searching for khazar momeni, who she referred to using a derogatory term. she was forwarded the screenshot and it was part of questioning from attorneys about whether she communicated with the lee family. she told the defense
1:44 am
she did sxhun kate with the lee family but walked back her testimony slightly on wednesday, telling prosecutors it was indirect communication. but she maintains she felt harassed, threatened, and intimidated. krista's comments triggered the judge to question jurors one by one, all of whom returned to the courtroom for the afternoon session, seemingly unaware of her comments. but krista's remarks did prompt the judge to bar her from return bing for khazar's testimony. after wednesday's proceedings, the text for krita wasn't meant for khazar. >> if she thought that it would have never been out in the public. khazar an is 3-year-old woman and she's not as naive as what she's portraying here. >> reporter: prosecutors ending with a specific message for jurors and a reminder that khazar is testifying to help
1:45 am
her brother in, quote, the difficult circumstances he finds himself in. to that khazar responded correct, the prosecutor telling the judge, that's all. and attorney shannon, who sat in on the proceedings, says it's a strategy used to sew doubt in khazar's testimony for the jury, which can disregard any testimony they feel was not credible. >> they're gently but with a velvet glove basically saying from the prosecution's standpoint you love your brother, you would lie for him. they don't come out and say, that but that's implicitly what they're saying. >> reporter: now we also heard testimony today by a former bmw sales manager who said that the momeni family did attempt to sell nima's vehicle after he was arrested. it was a white bmw sedan that nima used to drive bob lee to the location of the evefrj yule stabbing. in a line of questioning by the prosecution, it was suggested that this could have been in an

attempt to cover up evidence in side of the vehicle before it was impounded by sfpd officers. the defense maintaining that the attempted sale was strictly to cover legal expenses, sara? >> there could be a wrench thrown into the case and all of the other ones on the docket tomorrow. 200 court clerks working in the courthouse voted unanimously or overwhelmingly -- overwhelmingly, we should say, tonight to approve a strike set to go into effect thursday morning. >> . sideshows like this one in oakland last weekend have been a real headache for bay area cops and for people who live nearby, but new numbers show that crackdowns on sideshows might be making a dent in the problem. the state has been part of that effort. this weekend chp made 22 arrests and seized 36 cars in the east bay. back in february, governor
1:47 am
newsom sent extra officers there as part of a larger enforcement effort, and today he announced that since that operation launched, officers have made about 1,100 arrests, recovered more than 2,200 stolen cars, and confiscated 110 illegal firearms in oakland. in san francisco new barriers have popped up in the mission district on shotwell street. this is part of sf mta's effort to deter prostitution as neighbors have been calling on the city for solutions. the barriers are between 19th and 21st street, expected to be an 1-month experiment. the move has neighbors upset already. the concrete has taken away five parking spots along the street, and neighbors say they have not been able to get out as fast when they're leaving their homes in their neighborhood. we reached out the sfpd for comment on the barriers and have not heard back. if this sounds like you've heard this story before, that is because the city tried something very similar along cap street last

year. now we turn to san jose. just blocks from city hall neighbors say they have spent years dealing with drug dealers, squatters, even a few fires at a property that seems to attract a lot of trouble. john ramos has the story of an empty lot that prompted the city to step in. >> reporter: the property at the corner of fourth street and saint john is along the route that xzander smith takes to his classes at san jose state. >> so i walked past this lot pretty much every day and see the debris and have wondered every day, you know, what happened. just kind of seeing the debris and trash and everything around it, it's an eyesore for sure. >> reporter: the lot is actually four different addresses that have been fenced off for six years. there used to be a pair of empty victorian homes on one hend, but they burned to the ground in march in a fire started by homeless squatters. brian lives in a duplex next to the lot. >> it got lit on fire twice,
1:49 am
actually. >> twice? >> somebody burned the house down, and then somebody came back about a few months later, and they lit the rubble on fire. so that was -- that rubble was lit on fire twice because it wasn't picked up the first time. >> reporter: that's the kind of thing that neighbors have been living with and complaining to the city about for a long time. and mayor matt mahan is also fed up. >> this property has been blighted and neglected for far too long. this is a case where there's a very appropriate legal pathway, which is the one we're pursuing. >> reporter: the city filed a lawsuit against the owner, a saratoga man named brent lee, who l cros a company with the on b tuesday name rpo 152n3. in the court filing, the city says the company, quote, was a mere shell and sham without capital or assets and was conceived, intended, and used by the alter ego owners as a device to avoid individual liability and for the purpose of substituting a financially insolvent entity in
1:50 am
its place, end quote. in other words, the company has no money to sue for. so the court has granted san jose's request to turn the property over to a receiver who will make all the decisions about cleanup and maintenance and put a lien on the land until the total bill is paid. after that's been done, the mayor says the city will have one more goal in mind. >> finding a new owner who's going to actually not just maintain the property but hopefully invest in it and turn it into some kind of use. you know, housing, jobs, something that actually benefits society. >> reporter: that's also something he has pondered walking to school. >> when you see construction downtown and how fast some of these projects are being worked on and then you see something like this, you wonder what takes the timeframe on this longer than what people are doing a block over. >> reporter: the city says it has gotten no response or cooperation from the owner over the years. now with the property falling under the sole control of the receiver, they
1:51 am
no longer need it >> a hearing is scheduled for tomorrow evening at city hall to officially begin the process of forcing the cleanup of the site. all right, coming up, forget gas pump, even forget wall outlets. there's a new green game in the automotive world. >> there's combustion vehicles, electric vehicles, but there's no vehicle that creates its own fuel throughout the day. >> a look at the bay area company hoping to lead the way to a greener way to travel. calm conditions across the bay area today, and the current satellite perspective shows no clouds, no fog anywhere close to us. clear skies mean some chilly temperatures tomorrow morning, but we are going to warm back up. details on a longer cooldown in the first alert forecast. >> paul, thank you so much. and later, why a colts football player shoved the uniform into his locker and opted for this eye catching look instead.

there was a deadly ending to a high speed chase in socal this afternoon. this started near santa clarita north of l.a. police say this car was stolen. the suspect took off reaching speeds of up to 130 miles per hour on the 5 freeway. the driver eventually lost control, veered on to a shoulder, and then flipped the car. the driver died at the scene. all right, imagine being able to drive a car without ever having to fill up or plug in. well, the race for fully solar-powered cars has accelerated in recent years as climate change intensifies, so we sent itay hod to get a test drive of a car that proves the future is right around the bend. >> reporter: it's a new twist on traditional travel. no gas

or plug required. all this car needs is a tank full of sunshine. >> this is the future. >> reporter: this two-seat, three-wheeled car looks more like a futuristic plane, especially when you open its doors. and wait until you see how you do it. >> there you go. >> reporter: chris anthony is the co-ceo. he says this car, priced at about $35,000, is all about efficiency. >> there's combustion vehicles, there's electric vehicles, but there's no vehicle that creates its own fuel throughout the day. >> reporter: the global solar vehicle market is just revving up from $450 million in 2024 to $2.5 billion in 2030. the car, which is scheduled to roll out next year, is covered in solar panels that can generate enough energy to drive 40 miles per day. for longer drives, it can be charged like a regular
1:56 am
electric car. how fast does this car go? >> zero to 60 in four seconds, the top speed is 110 miles per hour. >> reporter: we took it for a spin to see how it handles san francisco's steep terrain. i have the say, it's doing a pretty decent job. steven a former department of transportation official and stanford researcher, says that while these cars are a step in the right direction, they may not be ready for primetime just yet. >> the tradeoffs, very small, very lightweight, limited carrying capacity are going to be deal breakers for a lot of u.s. customers. >> reporter: and of course, there's the weather. what happens if you live in a place like san francisco known for its fog? >> yeah, san francisco's a great use case. in southern california we get more sun. we get 11,000 miles of free driving a year with this vehicle. in san francisco, seattle, new york, you get more like 8,500 miles a year. >> reporter: solar cars steering people towards a brighter future where the best
1:57 am
way to move forward is to look up. >> if you're interested in getting one yourself, you've got a while to wait. it isn't expected to come out until q2 of next year. i know paul is jumping at the chance. you are an electric car guy. >> yes, you're an electric car gal. >> now i am, yeah. >> it's nice not to have to line up at the pump to fill her up. >> or pay the exorbitant prices of gasoline. >> yes, that's a nice feature. it's nice to drive around and have it charge as you went. eventually they'll look like real cars, i imagine. >> can they charge in the fog? >> it would be a lot slower. let's take a look at the forecast pattern. we're not going to see any fog in the short term. plenty of sunshine on thursday. an area of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere camped out to our south. we're going to be two the five degrees above
1:58 am
average. it's close enough to press down on us with high pressure, and it compresses the marine layer and reduces influence of that fog. passing clouds overhead friday and saturday. those are going to be mid and high level clouds. no moisture out of those. we have a chance a little farther down the line. things are looking good so far, temperatures dropping off quickly under mostly clear skies, looking towards downtown from treasure island and the to the west from the mark hopkins hotel. temperatures in the 50s and 60s. an even mix of both. cooling off more efficiently in santa rosa. down to 53 degrees already. and yowl be one of the cooler spots by early tomorrow morning. in fact, we're going to focus on the north bay for our low temperatures early tomorrow, which are going to be mostly in the 40s and 50s across the rest of the bay area. but we're going to track those coolest temperatures in the north bay valleys dropping to around 40 degrees in petaluma and healdsburg, just above that in santa rosa early tomorrow morning, while the rest of us start off closer to average in the 40st and 50s. temperatures are going to warm
1:59 am
up, a mix of 70st 0s and low 80s. mostly 60s along the coast, but mid to upper 60s, couple degrees above normal. temperatures in the santa clara valley in the upper 70s, low 80s. similar on friday and saturday. changes arrive in the forecast on sunday with a rain chance. this is one of the long-range forecast models i'm going to put on the map indicating potential for a quick shot of light rain showers sunday into sunday night. it's not guaranteed to happen, we're still looking at that long range kind of speculative data, but if it does happen, it's not going to amount to much more than a couple hundredths of an inch of total rainfall. even if it completely falls apart, we don't get any rain, we get cooler weather. that looks like it's sticking around far little while. let's take a look at the long range temperature outlook. near average temperatures on sunday, and below average through the rest of next week. cooler than normal temperatures are likely
2:00 am
to stick around as we look at the six to ten-day outlook. that takes us into early november. and the 8 to 14-day outlook takes us farther into the new month. while the pattern doesn't change, confidence in how how cool it's going to be, that diminishes a little bit. on the autumnal side, feeling deeper into autumn as we head into november. upper 70s and low 80s inland. a mix of mostly low 70s but upper 60s for the coolest inland spots early next week. temperatures around the bay, low to mid-70s through saturday. dipping back down into the 60s sunday through wednesday. temperatures along the coast staying in the 60s. it's just a matter of how far into the 60s. decently mild along the coast through saturday, and then on the cooler side once again. and it looks like this kind of trend is going to continue through halloween. halloween looks dry, so no worries about waterproofing trick-or-treat costumes. >> that's always a pain, especially when there's paint involved. >> fog droplets, no guarantees
2:01 am
about that, though. >> get the towels. we're going to dab away for halloween. you heard it here first. straight ahead in sports, install day has arrived for the 49ers for sunday night football. and the warriors opener tonight, if it was the first day of school, i'd say they scored high.
