watching ten other senate races as democrats face a tight map that leaves them with slim hopes of holding on to their 51-49 majority. going back to that presidential race, we know that today vice president kamala harris as well as former president trump are going to be stumping in north carolina as well as wisconsin. while you have vice president harris also making a stop in pennsylvania again. back to you. >> all right. jarred hill in cleveland, ohio. thanks. with election day drawing near, election officials are working to debunk false claims calling into question the integrity of the process and the results. that comes as former president trump and the republican national committee are suing some democratic officials alleging problems with the process. cbs' skyler henry looks at how election officials are trying to combat misinformation and show voters the upcoming election is legitimate. >> reporter: as we inch closer to election day, officials and lawmakers are working to ensure the integrity of the voting process. >> more confidence leads to

greater participation, a good thing for our country. >> reporter: in dozens of pevious cases, courts have found no evidence of widespread voter fraud. that includes claims about improper registration, noncitizens' participation, and the voting systems themselves. how is this process i guess safe for a lack of a better word? >> every election, jurisdiction, every county in the country has clear rules about how ballots are handled. >> reporter: chris mann with the center for election research says as early voting expands across the country poll workers are able to focus on other potential issues. >> does a lot to help them, give them more time to deal with problems, whether that's a power outage at a polling place, misinformation about voting procedures. >> reporter: that misinformation is in part leading to an uptick in threats and abuse to more than 10,000 local election officials nationwide according to the brennan center for justice. >> it has come as a shock to a

two israeli air strikes killed nearly 90 according to the hamas-run health ministry. one of the strikes hit a residential building. israel's military says it was targeting a suspected terrorist that's trying to understand why so many people were in the area at the time. israeli media is reporting that qatar put together a new cease-fire proposal that calls for the release of 11 israeli hostages in exchange for a one-month pause in the fighting. yesterday hamas signaled it was ready to resume negotiations, although its key demands of a permanent cease-fire and a full withdrawal of the israeli troops do not appear to have changed. and in lebanon, eight austrian soldiers serving in the u.n. peacekeeping force suffered minor injuries when a rocket hit their headquarters. the peacekeeping force said the rocket was likely fired by hezbollah. mcdonald's is being hit with lawsuits after an e. coli outbreak linked to quarter

pounders killed one in colorado and sickened at least 75 others in 13 states. 15-year-old kamberlyn bowler of grand junction, colorado, is part of a class-action lawsuit involving dozens of people who ate the contaminated quarter pounders. she's been hospitalized with kidney failure and other complications from the e. coli bacteria. she said she ate three quarter pounders in the weeks before the outbreak was detected. >> i just like couldn't get out of bed. i couldn't eat. i couldn't drink. i was surviving on popsicles. >> that's pretty scary to know that like we put so much faith and trust that we're going to be eating something that's healthy and just have that -- that trust in them and for it to be broken. >> mcdonald's has not commented on the lawsuit. the company started selling the quarter pounders again this week after testing pointed to slivered onions as the source of the outbreak and not the beef patties.

charges, and a suspect barricades himself in a hotel. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." "the atlanta journal-constitution" reports on an hours' long police standoff at midtown atlanta's four seasons hotel. [ gunfire ] >> they're up there. >> authorities say jay berger fired at least 15 shots and threw objects off his balcony after barricading himself in his condo at the four seasons yesterday. they say the incident began as a dispute with a building employee. police say he eventually raised his hands and was taken into custody. berger suffered an apparent head wound. one officer also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. "the san francisco chronicle" says a city judge sentenced the man who attacked former house speaker nancy pelosi's husband with a hammer to life in prison without the possibility of parole. david depape broke into the couple's san francisco home in
