>> it is clear we have a sheriff that we can not trust. plus, a controversial airport name change just got grounded. and a champion getting a hero's welcome in a big return to the bay area. we will show you the big cheers from the people who were supposed to be rooting against him, tonight. from kpix, this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. hello, i'm sara donchey. the sheriff is facing serious allegations of her running her department like a tyrant and the board of supervisors are not happy, either, they had dueling press conferences today between the two sides, each of them pointing the finger at the other one. at the heart of the disagreement was this, 400 pages of misconduct and her

staff. and tonight, the sheriff is fiercely defending herself. painting the report as part of a conspiracy to end her career. >> no one will call me a racist or a homophobe. these are people who have a vendetta against me. i am disgusted at how low these people will go. >> reporter: that was sheriff corpus defiance against the report, accused her of racism and homophobia. the board said they lost faith in the sheriff >> it is clear we have a sheriff that we can not trust. >> reporter: the independent report authored by a retired judge is hundreds of pages long. contained interviews with current and former employees that described a culture of bullying and found that corpus had an inappropriate relationship with a man who helped her get elected t. claims she pushed to create a

new position for him as executive director without announcing the job opening, the salary almost $250,000. the report also claims that he brought corpus lavish grips and took a trip with her to hawaii and had a romantic relationship with her and appeared at the press conference. >> we are friends. i trust him. as i trust all of those people that are standing there. >> reporter: the report claims that she interfered with internal affairs investigations and acted as carp us'right hand man. texts using a slur for lesbians something that corpus denied. >> i do not recognize those text messages. it looks fabricated to me. i don't speak like that. i don't speak like that. and these are coming from someone who is vindictive

and upset. i am disgusted. as a woman, a woman of color i am disgusted that it would be brought up. >> reporter: the report found lies, secrecy, intimidation, retaliation, conflict of interest and abuses of authority are the hallmarks of the corpus administration, sheriff corpus should step down and victor's office should be tomorrow nateed immediately. something could save this organization that is in turmoil and personnel demoralized and the board of supervisors seem to agree. >> there are numerous allegations in this report that frankly there is no better word to describe than shocking and reprehensible. >> reporter: corpus says it is bias. the author said corpus did not make herself available to be interviewed. she said she was not given time. >> this is a hatchet job of an

inquiry which was commissioned with a pre-determined outcome in mind and it was filled with lies. >> county supervisors are set to hold special meetings, the board is expected to decide if they should call for sheriff corpus to resign immediately. earlier today, the sheriff announced her department arrested the head of the deputy sheriff's association on felony grand theft charges. the department says deputy was placed on administrative leave. we heard from him in the hours after he surrendered to the police. >> i will continue to faithfully and represent the interest of our union members and i look forward to the district attorneys review of this investigation. i am confident i will be vindicated. >> he has been a vocal critic of the sheriff's office. he is accused of time card fraud. he said the sheriff's department did not tell his office about this case until this morning.

in san francisco, we entered the fifth week of trial against the man accused of kill cash app founder bob lee. lauren toms has the latest. >> reporter: sara, right now it is the defense's turn to bring their case and prove to a jury that momeni acted in self-defense. today we heard from one of their witnesses that left nearly all options on the table for how the stabbing unfolded. bringing his credibility as a high paid expert medical witness into question. >> defense attorneys working to convince a jury that momeni acted in self-defense when he killed bob lee bringing a different perspective before the jurors they feel can only help their case. >> why didn't the state call certain witnesses? they did not call certain witnesses because it was not going to help their

case. >> reporter: their latest witness, a medical expert from florida paid nearly $20,000 for his testimony says the defense's theory that bob lee could of had the knife and sustained wounds as momeni defended himself could have been just as likely as the theory that momeni intentionally stabbed lee. spending the day inside of the courtroom, the jury may take his testimony with a grain of salt. >> the weight they will give the defense experts testimony given that he was paid a significant amount of money, given that he testifies 99% of the time for the defense, they may not give his testimony very much weight. >> that witness says it is possible one of bob lee's three stab wounds, one that entered back to front near his hip could have been self-inflicted as momeni sought to stop a knife attack or could have been directly from momeni as lee attempted to shield

himself. questions that only momeni will be able to answer. >> without any explanation by momeni it seemed to be well it is possible like and other theory can be. >> reporter: now the defense says that momeni wants to take the stand to tell his side of the story. a story that could prove he acted in delve sfns. now n order to convict a jury must find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. momeni is expected to take the stand in the next couple of days. >> lauren will keep track of the trial. you will find the latest on our website kpix.com. we need to talk about weather. we have changes coming, right? >> we do. several rounds of showers heading our way. they will not add up to a lot once you total everything up. we need to add more moisture to the fire fuels. sending all of

the moisture into washington, oregon. it could be making the way into the north bay. already, after the sun comes occupy tomorrow morning there is where the rain will be concentrated. north of the golden gate. we have a good chance, 1/10th of an inch to a quarter of a inch tapering off in the afternoon. the rain chances will peak by early afternoon but diminishing quickly. the rain will fall apart as it makes its way across the bay area. here is the clearest evidence of that. look at the rain chances for san jose, a row bust 10% estimated boy the forecast models of anything more than a couple sprinkles here and there. a chance but not amounting to much in the south bay. it will be a snow maker. the progression of them in the high sierra. it will fall over the course of the next several days, the winter weather advisory goes for 60 hours, 10:00 tomorrow through 10:00 p.m. friday. during the whole 60 hours they will add up to 6-12 inches of snow. and enough to mess up travel conditions on u.s. 50 and i-80. travel will

violence and forget it at months at a time. >> they were eager to talk. bernal says feedback is a good sign that people are anxious for change and better yet, ready to get involved. >> i think it is about building community at the end of the day. that is what it is. that is what i want to do here >> a big part of the mayor-elect message is patience that things will change dramatically overnight. he is talking about bringing the government to placing like this plaza having city council come over and talk to people, hear ideas and all of this starts pretty soon. inauguration here, not far away in antioch. scheduled for december 10th. the saga continues in the battle over the new name for the airport in oakland. a federal court has ordered the oakland airport to stop using san francisco bay in its name. they changed the name to attract more travelers but san francisco's airport had something to say about it. they filed a lawsuit that claimed

the change confuses travelers and violates sfo's trade mark the judge in the ruling agreed and is blocking the name change until the legal process plays out we are talking about rain. once again in the forecast. which we need. i think we both talked recently about how we feel for the most part we were spared a rough fire season in the immediate bay area. we need stuff like this to keep that the case >> this will help in the short term. you need to a major rainfall event to slam the coffin lid on fire season which we would like to do as soon as possible. no major rain events for us in store. the major rainstorm is approaching us, sending it off to the north. on the southern fringe of it. a chance of showers heading our way. beginning tomorrow morning for the north bay. while we are waiting on that, a little bit of fog reforming along the coast the temperatures are dropping off quickly. a lot of 40s and lower 50s. clinging to 53 degrees in san francisco and

50 degrees in san jose. otherwise 40s across the board. we will see 40s area wide to begin the day tomorrow. increase in cloud cover for the northbound r north bay, the temperatures there on the cool side. let's take a look at the forecast lows, or forecast highs for tomorrow. it will reach up into the upper 50s in the north bay. earlier arrival of the clouds and the rain it will limit how much you warm up during the afternoon. your temperatures will end up about 5-7 degrees below normal. for the rest of the bay area, we will be within a couple degrees of normal. take more time for the thickest clouds and the rain chances to make their way across the bay area. the rain chances falling apart as they move in. temperatures reaching the middle 60s. east of the oakland hills, around the bay, upper 60s down the peninsula and into the santa clara valley. 68 degrees in san jose is one of the warmest spots on the map by tomorrow afternoon. let's take a look at future cast. we will track the rain, hour by hour as we head through the rest of tonight as it approaches us. as we go through

the day tomorrow. so, future cast radar simulation shows the showers beginning to move into the north bay as the sun comes up tomorrow morning, a western tip of the sonoma county. the bulk of the rain will hit the ground, 9:00, 10:00, going by fast. that is the point. it will be a quick rainfall event with limited amounts of total rain coming out of the first burst. the last of the showers should be coming to an end at 6:00, 7:00 in the evening. we are not done yet. there will be enough instability left. popping up over the north bay tomorrow night. then through the day on thursday. the atmosphere is stable enough that more showers will develop. some of these could be full-fledged thunderstorms by midday on thursday into the afternoon. going to be more miss than hit. those chances continue into friday. a gradual diminishing trend for the end of the workweek. one more

chance heading our way on sunday. if you add up all of the chances over the next five days, through the weekend, they are really not going to amount to much even when you total it up over the five day time frame. we are talk anything wherefrom a few/100th of an inch of rain to maybe a quarter to half an inch of rain in a few locations in the half bay. modest over all is what we are expecting through the course of the next five days, unsettled pattern. we don't have to show you the inland bay coastal break down that we usually do. everyone has the same forecast. does not matter which microclimate you are in other than the specific rain chances that we detailed. temperatures from the upper 50s to 60s. not a wide range. again, unsettled pattern sticking around through the weekend. once the showers wind down sunday evening, the forecast looks dry for monday and tuesday all of the way through the rest of next week. vern? >> all right, there, paul, straight ahead in sports. might be a little more bounce in the

so, there is one of the stories when i first heard about it made me, i say, uneasy or uncomfortable. >> sure. >> i had nothing to do with it. update tonight on. >> or did you? >> i assure you i was nowhere near where this happened. here is the update on the mad hunt for monkeys that escaped from a research laboratory in south carolina. now, in case you have not been following this one, someone left a cage open last week, 43 monkeys said now is our chance and they ran off. the lab says they finally made some progress in getting them to come back. >> there are three of them, four. five. >> yep. there have been lots of monkey sightings around the facility. as of tonight, more than half of them have been recaptured. employees have been using food and they have been cooing at them to lure them

back in. did not think that would work. apparently it has. the rest of them are still at large. some of them jumping in and out of the fence around the property. a former maintenance worker said do not under estimate the monkeys, they are funny and they are smart. >> they will watch you and everything. they would take a wrench from us and they would hide and have to go back in and get it. >> i would be worried they had a hit list or something. the lab will keep looking for the monkeys on the run but the ones that have been recovered are doing okay. >> and the ones that have not been found are plotting vengeance >> and they are evolving. >> >> in the wake of the 2024 election, a cruise line is now offering a 4-year "skip ahead" trip for people looking to avoid
