said his father made the ultimate sacrifice to save his life. >> and after a little while, he just let go. i just thought about my family. plus terror in the sky as airline passengers hit the giving up. plus, the holiday celebration on the peninsula is anything, but traditional. hi, i'm sara donchey. thank you so much for joining us this evening. fighting for your life in the middle of the ocean would be imcredibly traumatic for anyone. but losing your family in the process is unthinkable. that, however, is what happened to one brave 13-year-old boy who went through a nightmare at sea and saw his family member slip away. on november 2, six people took out the family fishing

boat in bodega bay. they were excited to spend time together at sea. but the trip turned very bad when their boat capsized. launching a search for any survivor, and 13-year-old jude, was the only one to make it out alive. tonight, he tells our andrea nakano why he says he survived. >> and it was right here. for tuna and the other stuff. >> reporter: it is a fishing trip that the family would look forward to every year to celebrate the start of the recreational grab fishing season. but this year, powerful waves overwhelmed the 21-foot fishing boat. >> and it was like already filled up on one side, and it was already too late before i noticed. >> reporter: jude vividly remembers the final moments on the boat as his dad tried to

navigate out of the choppy water. >> the water was forming inside. we started flooring it a little bit until the equipment snapped. as soon as we kind of went faster, the boat stopped working. >> reporter: jude said at that point, his relatives did everything they can to hold on until help arrived. >> i just remember some of us splitting up in the water, some of us staying on the boat holding on. some of us went different ways, like me and my dad went on the cooler, and then some of us went on the boat and some of us split up. >> reporter: jude could only say they were pretty far off the shore. he can't say how long this tragic ordeal lasted. the only thing heinous, his dad sufficiently tucked him into the cooler and gave up his life

to save his son. >> what did you do then? >> i was wondering where he was after a little while. >> reporter: chernice is jude's aunt. >> that broke my heart to hear he probably had to make a choice. >> reporter: her brother's body hasn't been found yet, along with three others. the body of a 17-year-old was recovered about a week ago. the family will be gathering saturday at bodega bay to mourn and say good-bye to their loved ones. >> yeah, tomorrow's habitual is to remember my nephew's life. to find their way and just be set free and not be trapped, you know, wherever they are at. >> reporter: and to say jude was brave doesn't fully

describe his historic story of survival. cooler ended up on shore. the 13-year-old was determined to see his mom again. >> i just thought about my family. i just decided to be smart about it and just fall asleep and save what i got, and then just use it to get out of here. >> yeah. >> reporter: once he woke up in the morning, he managed to hike up and get help. this weekend, he'll return to the site where the tragedy unfolded to say his final good-bye to his dad. incredibly sad story. search teams recovered the body of two people killed in the accident. two more people still missing as of now. two men were killed when another boat sank near muscle point. this weekend, people are being warn today stay alert. the king tides are back. there is a high surf and flood

advisory along the coastline. in san francisco, you can see king tides on the water front. it was a good excuse for a friday field trip. over 1 is 00 students came out to see why it happened. if you're given the classroom opportunity or a nice walk outside, even if it is cool and crisp, i'll take the walk outside. >> and it kind of sends it, sets them deeper in your mind when you see them wrapping up on the sidewalk, things that are not ordinarily covered by the water. let's bring our map up here and talk about those with the coastal flood advisory that is outlined in yellow. any low lying spots into the bay, and some high water concerns. we'll have signs posted, pretty easy to avoid those spots if you're being careful. a small craft advisory off the coast. then in blue, that's a freeze warning that will include more of the bay area, but covered up. let's step over to the monitor here and talk more about that freeze

warning for the north bay. in effect through midnight and tomorrow morning for most of the interior portions of the north bay. freeze warnings will sound ominous, but it's only a big deal if you're a plant. temperatures will drop down to around freezing. early tomorrow morning, if you have some stuff you've been working on in the garden that isn't done, you might want to cover that up if you have time. as we look ahead to the weekend, looks pretty good. any chance of showers on sunday or santa clara will hold on until after the game. and temperatures are comfortable throughout sunday afternoon. i'll have the full weekend forecast coming up in a few minutes. we'll look ahead to the next rain chance after sunday evening. it's coming up in the full forecast in a couple of minutes. sara? >> all right, paul. thank you so much. in san francisco, a group of dogs went on a rampage. it ended when police officers had to use their weapons. this happened earlier today in a safeway parking lot in the fillmore. the dogs were attacking a smaller dog. when

officers got there, they saw one of the dogs attacking someone who was walking, and that's when they opened fire, shooting, killing the animals. and the other made it to campbell park. officers also shot at last check, the dog is still alive. one man who lives nearby says he knows these dogs and says they usually don't do much, but bark. >> and i'm surprised they were biting the way they did because they were always cool and calm. the way they got out, acting up like that, that shocked me. that surprised me. >> so police say they tried to use less than lethal force before they ultimately shot the dogs. the owner has not been identified. person who was attacked by one of those dogs had non-life threatening injuries. tonight, more drama at the san mateo sheriff's department. there have been calls for sheriff christina corpus to resign after a 400-page independent report accused her of abusive power,

retaliation, and hiding an office romance with her former chief of staff. she has called that report full of lies they confirmed acting assistant resigned yesterday. fox first started the job after sheriff corpus fired his predecessor. >> effective immediately, i'm appointing dr. victor aenlle to the position of sheriff. >> that was the sheriff making a bomb shell announcement at the board of supervisors meeting on wednesday. just as they were moving to terminate victor aenlle and ask her to resign. board is looking into whether sheriff corpus can actually promote aenlle to that position in the first place. across the bay in alameda county, district attorney, pamela price, wrote a fiery message to supporters that she's refusing to concede after being recalled in a

landslide. price wrote there are still votes left to be could wanted, but the voters say that there aren't. and the latest numbers show the yes votes are leading by 150,000 ballots at 6 f 63 report. the contenders to replace her are lining up. >> i can sit here and talk about crime. >> reporter: he spoke out against pamela price. now butch forward wants to replace her as the next alameda county district attorney. >> i'm very proud of the problems that existed in the office before and currently. as a result of that, i'm -- he left after price took office. now he works for brooke jenkins as an assistant district attorney in san francisco,

some passengers actually hit the ceiling of a scandinavian airlines jet with a miami bound flight. it took a scary turn. extreme turbulence shook the plane as it was flying over greenland. >> sam? >> it is okay. >> and i can tell you that is my worst nightmare. more than 250 passengers were on board the flight from stockholm. some people who were not wearing seat belts were lifted out of their seats. the cabin was littered with debris. no reports of serious injuries. the pilots turned around and flew to europe. they flew five hours to copen hague copenhagen. they make those announcements to keep the flights safe for that reason. i see this video every couple of months.

>> if i'm sitting down, like it doesn't matter if i have that little lap belt or not. when something like that happens. >> and i don't want to happen whether or not i have the seat belt. and things not frequent, but not completely out of the ordinary. yeah, let's take a look at what's happening with our weather. it is mercifully calm, especially in comparison to that. we're in between storm systems, the storm system that brought us showers. continuing to get ejected off to the east. the dry break will continue on saturday. then the next storm system, still out of the picture at the moment, will be dropping in from the north. that won't have a whole lot of moisture, but will have some showers across the bay area by late sunday afternoon, saturday evening. in the short term, we have some cool temperatures to talk about. right now it's a mix of 40s and low 50s across the bay area. we're going to

continue to drop. and maybe even mid-30s, but you're not going to be the cool spot on the map. dipping down as we would mention earlier with that freeze warning to around freezing. but just grazing. 32 degrees in santa rosa. 1 is degree above that in petaluma and healdsburg. yeah, it's cold, but not that far out of the ordinary for this time of the year. and within two to four degrees of what's normal. mostly low 60s. and it doesn't matter if you're around the bay, mostly low 60s. the exception to that, temperatures will top out in the lower 60s and half moon bay. but only a 5-degree spread across the coolest locations and the warmer spot. 63 degrees in san jose, fairfield. and similar temperatures on sunday, maybe a

degree or two cooler. an increase in our rain chances. it looks a little bit further down the line. increased clouds on saturday. we'll see the thickening clouds throughout saturday night into early sunday morning. just a slight chance for a couple of sprinkles in the first half of the day sunday. increasing sporadic shower. that's when we would see more of these scattered showers moving across the bay area in a broken line. it's not an impressive line. it's not going to be an impressive rainmaker for the entire bay area. it moves out as we head towards sunday night. we're talking about a couple hundredths of an inch of

rain, and a couple lucky spots approaching, barely noticeable, but just enough to wet things down for a couple of days, beforethe climate prediction center will support that trend towards a wetter pattern. wetter than normal conditions are expected as we would head through next weekend into the week of thanksgiving. the 8 to 14-day outlook, which will take us through thanksgiving into black friday, actually, continues that trend towards wetter than normal conditions. we'll keep you updated on the details. right now the second half is the very uncertain half of the forecast. and i'm positioning myself in between, where everything on this side is what we're confident in. temperatures in the low 70s. otherwise a clouds. temperatures will warm up on wednesday, thursday, friday, at least a couple degrees above average. it will be cooler along the coast. shower chances wednesday, mainly for the north bay. everybody else has a better chance of getting in on some rain by the time we hit the end of next week on friday. the last full workweek before thanksgiving. right around the corner. >> speaking of the holidays, i could never get you to be festive, but i'll continue to try. i'll continue to try.
