to travel somewhere across the country, you might run into problems elsewhere. today the big problem was in denver. over 600 nights delayed by snow that fell this morning. now that storm system has been pushing farther to the east, and it's developing into a headache in the northeastern u.s. this is going to turn into a full-fledged nor'easter type storm, not necessarily the blizzard conditions we associate with that word, but the rain/snow line is to the north of the major travel hubs in the eastern u.s., boston, new york, philadelphia. but there's enough rain and wind to lead to delays for those travel hubs. farther to the south on the warm side of the system there's a line of thunderstorms that's marching through alabama and mississippi. that's going to skobt to make its way farther and farther to the east. and that is going to lead to the threat of severe thunderstorms for charlotte and for atlanta. american and delta hubs respectively. so be prepared for delays. around here, again, if you're staying local, things are looking just find. thanksgiving weekend forecast for the bay area coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you so much for that.

cities across the bay area have struggled for a long time to find enough shelter beds for people living on the streets. that becomes even more urgent as temperatures drop this time of year. the latest count in san francisco shows more than 8,300 people living on the street, more than 400 of them are thought to be families. the city has a new policy that limits who is eligible for shelter beds and limits how long people can stay in them. the rules are meant to help more families access shelter, but as max darrow shows us, some advocates say it will only push more of them out on to the street. >> reporter: the city's department of homelessness and supportive housing sees these changes as positive reform, however, some homeless advocates believe this will mean more families will end up living on san francisco streets. when you look at this photo you see two sisters smiling. but what you don't see is the reality that yazmin

of families in our community. the idea is to have beds available for families with the most pressing need, such as those currently on the street or living in a vehicle. right now families can stay in a temporary shelter for 90 days, but the city's policy allows for 30-day extensions for a total of up to nine months. under the new hsh policy, families will only be able to stay in a shelt fer 90 days plus up to three 30-day extenses based on an individual family's circumstance and families will lose eligibility for extensions if they decline three permanent housing offers. >> three months is not adequate time to get resources you need to get back on your feet. >> we should be moving in the other direction. there was a 98% increase in family homelessness between 2022 and 2024. >> reporter: she believes the policy change stems from a bigger issue beyond h sh. >> and i just think it's fundamentally unacceptable that we are not resourcing this
