are here with me. we woke up at 4:00 this morning to do this. it is just the whole experience you don't get to have generally, nowadays. it will be fun and a good memory to have. >> all right, then. traffic was bad around the outlets in livermore. this is from our chopper, these are just long lines of people and cars everywhere. livermore police put out a warning to people about the crowds. as they tell us it is worth the frustration so snag a great deal. is it? >> reporter: black friday is in full effect. this is an example of the lines forming. this is the line on the other side, north bay store it is equally as long. some people have been coming to the outlet for years and say it never has been this crowded for black friday. >> reporter: black friday shopping is expected to bring

in record numbers for online traffic but in livermore they showed up in person, in droves >> stop right there, guys, stop right there. >> reporter: it took two hours to drive his family from roosevelt to livermore to shop at the outlet mall. arriving was the first thing looking for parking took half an hour before he gave up and went valet. >> i tried every line. the time it took me to park here. 45 minutes to find marking, none. i came here and paid $15 to find a spot. >> reporter: in his opinion the drive was not worth the frustration of getting in and out of lines wrapped around the buildings. >> would you do it again? >> i don't think so. >> reporter: he is happy he found something to buy. she said her experience could have been better. >> you see, you see, you see. the honking that is my experience. mine and my friends experienced. >> reporter: she likes to try on clothes that is why she

experience done right. >> my sister-in-law and mother-in-law came from meks dough just wanted to come to the outlets. she got her purses. she wanted to go to coach. she was able to get her coach purses and victoria secret she wanted. >> well, this holiday weekend the national retail federation estimates 183 million people will shop nationwide with the average person expected to spend around $1,000. and that is a 14% increase from last year. across town at union square there were people out and about enjoying all of holiday cheer on display. with iconic macy's story going up for sale soon a lot of uncertainty surrounding san francisco's premier holiday hub. we have that star. >> reporter: even the birds gather around this landmark. san francisco's union square continues to be centered around the christmas magic macy's offers each year. and at the

center of it all, this 83 foot tall tree. black friday shopper is enjoying the holiday spirit with his mother and his dog. >> my mom is visiting for the holidays. so, we had to come to the famous macy's christmas tree. and come and enjoy union square. ♪. >> reporter: while the crowds for black friday shopping were not as large as year's past the holiday festivities may not look the same next year. macy's is set to close the flag ship store when it finds a buyer for the property. could be next year. part of a nationwide closure for underperforming location. >> a landmark location, a great spot. a great gathering area. sad to hear. i associate this big tree with macy's. >> and shoppers like gloria from italy say shopping in union square just will not be the same without it. >> i love macy's. i am always

will and winston it is focused on making positive memories while macy's is around. >> some areas can be more dangerous than others but this is a great spot. it is beautiful and we love it here. >> reporter: reflection of enduring community pride even amid of the change. downtown people did not have to go far for black friday shopping thanks to pop up shops. neighbors got to shop for honey, antiques, vintage clothing and everiing in between the stores. today was the first of this 9-day pop up. neighbors say they add a lot of fun and variety to their holiday shopping. >> we love living in this little town and just having all of the local businesses here. it is nice to come down and walk the streets and see that. >> reporter: the pop up runs through december 7th t. is open from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. some shoppers around the bay area spent black friday picking out their perfect christmas

tree in the east bay. the owner of joseph's trees in clayton says this is their busiest weekend of the year. meanwhile folks with the delancey foundation is dpeering up for another year selling trees. >> every tree we sell here across from here and our other facility across the country is to support our foundation, support myself. all of our residents, everything that we do. >> reporter: the foundation is a nonprofit that works to help people that struggle with addiction or homelessness or have a criminal record begin their path towards rehabilitation. coming up after the break. the mother of the lone survivor of the deadly cybertruck crash speaks to kpix as the community gathers to remember the three lives lost in piedmont. >> it is really devastating, honestly. to know they had a really bright future ahead. and, homeless advocates in the south bay calling out city leaders after a housing

development for homeless families hits delays. our chief meteorologist paul heggen will have the full forecast to get us all ready for the weekend . days later, trying to come to grips killing three local college students. hundreds came together to piedmont park to remember the victims and offer support to everyone impacted. our da lin was there speaking to the mother of the only surviving passenger and learning more about the lives cut short. >> reporter: hundreds of people attending this friday night vigil at piedmont park. here to remember the three victims and to also show their support for the lone survivor. on friday

morning, i spoke with the survivor's mother. >> reporter: two days after the solo crash that claimed three lives still a lot of raw emotions at the crash site. >> it is devastating, honestly. to know they had a really bright future ahead. >> reporter: family, friends, neighbors stopped by to drop off flowers and write messages of love. some posted pictures of the young victims on a tree. the fourth victim, jordan miller survived in critical condition. i interviewed his mother, samantha miller, on friday morning. she did not want to be on camera but provided quotes. i asked how is jordan. >> she said it was hard to say we are taking it day-by-day. jordan was a passenger. >> reporter: the police say the truck burst into flames, they say someone driving behind pulled jordan out. the other

three people did not make it. samantha says she spoken to the other victim's families, quote, devastating situation and you know, we are all thinking about the kids that were lost. they are not kids any more but they still are to us. samantha and friends identified the victims as jack nelson, so are endickson and christian. >> reporter: all of the victims are college sophomores home for the thanksgiving break. they were all friends who graduated from piedmont high in 2023. christa, seen in this tiktok video was a student at art and design. so are enattended usc and jack attended university of colorado. jack's friend dropped off flowers he and jack attended university of colorado. >> their bay area roots made for a connection. >> unspeakable tragedy. life is precious. we have to cherish it. >> reporter: many people said they went to school with the

victims or their kids went to school with them. >> with it happening the day before thanksgiving it is a lot. and i am holding closer to my friends and my family. >> it is terrible. small community. and it is a tragedy for their families and friends. anyone that lives in piedmont. >> reporter: samantha said her family and son, jordan appreciate the support. she said quote, piedmont is a wonderful community and we have many close friends and they have been incredibly kind.. >> reporter: a lot of hugs and tears here. the police are still investigating the crash happened. they believe speed played a factor. citizen app video captured what appears to be a crash involving a garbage truck and four parked cars today. the police have not released information on what led to the

crash. in napa county, hazmat crews were called out after a septic truck leaked diesel into a ditch on the side of the road. this happens to be on silver ado trail south around 5:00 this morning. two people had to be pulled out by first responders. one had major injuries and airlifted to the hospital. about 30 gallons of fuel spilled but local health officials say it did not reach a nearby creek. now, to the south bay. a project in north san jose that promised to house the homeless has been delayed. set to be one of the largest temporary housing sight sites in the city. located on monterey road. we spoke to homeless advocates frustrated over the hold up. >> i already considered myself too far gone to recover. hi no hope left. everything spiraled out of control. >> reporter: fernando would of jumped at the promise of housing that a project like

this offered during the two long years he was trapped with his wife and young son in the waking nightmare of homelessness. >> we were out there about two years strong, in the trenches. >> reporter: the project, located on monterey road, was designed to house 204 men and women. construction was supposed to be quick and relatively cheap. the project now is substantially behind schedule and over budget. >> it is frustrating. like i said costly. not only economically but in terms of human lives. >> a homeless advocate feels the city is falling short of the responsibility to provide more affordable housing. the city's housing department released a report earlier this month in which they blamed the delays on prolonged periods of severe winter weather during construction. it resulted in water damage to the unit. repairing the damage the city says has led to costly delays.

the report also sights poor building for the unit and poor communication. >> you are not going to get out of the creek bed unless the government helps you. if the project is stalled people don't understand the reality of living in the creek bed and how your life expectancy goes way down. >> reporter: the project was supposed to open last summer but pushed back to the middle of next year. the homeless will spend another cold wet winter without the shelter, without the refuge it might of provided. >> discouraging, disappointing. and, because, in homelessness we need hope. all right, let's turn our attention to the weather now. beautiful shot of the sunset from the top of sales force tower. look at that. but, what does the weekend have in store for us? let's send it over to

our chief meteorologist paul heggen to find out. >> the calm weather pattern we enjoyed for thanksgiving and black friday will continue for the weekend and likely into the first full week of december. a hill of air in the atmosphere that pushed the main storm track way up to the north. a parade of ripples in the atmosphere. it will tripe to undercut that. it will try to send light rain showers into southern california tonight and out to the pacific. all we will see, passing cloud cover. clouds, high up in the atmosphere. no chance for moisture. not just the seven-day forecast but looking beyond that. the first weekend in december and the rain chances are essentially 0 in that time frame. a dry start to what is usually the wettest month of the year for the bay area. now, in parts of the bay area we can withstand that stretch of dry weather. santa rosa will go 300% over the deluge we had. san francisco

running well over 100% of average rainfall. the spots running a deficit where you did not get the rain. that deficit is going to continue to grow as we head through the dry stretch, about two week stretch of weather. one place they are going to have an abundance. they will have snow for the game, they will have two to three feet snow around orchard park and it will continue through kickoff but diminishing. the snow might not be as much of a factor in the second half. something to watch and marvel at when you think of the amount of snowfalling in that part of the country over the next several days. let's return to our weather. temperatures will drop quickly. a mix of upper 30s and 40s for

most of the bay area. around the bay, 40s for the warm spots, cold spots dropping around or below freezing in the north bay. 31 degrees in petaluma. 32 in santa rosa by tomorrow morning. despite the cold start, the temperatures will bounce back. starting off five degrees below average. ending 2-3 degrees above normal. around 60 degrees east of the oakland hills under the coolest temperatures in sight. the warmest spots will be in the santa clara valley, climbing into the upper 60s in san jose and almost 70 degrees in morgan hill that is several degrees above normal. you will have company in above normal territory heading to the forecast. temperatures, climbing into the middle 60s. warmest spots will approach 70 degrees as we head to the first full week of december. not record setting but it is warm for this time of year considering the short daylight hours, less than 10 hours of daylight hours. the temperatures around the bay. staying in the middle portion

of the 60s, passing clouds, nothing falling out of the clouds, along the coast, the warm up, noticeable, temperatures in the lower 60s through all of next week. >> all right. the weather was perfect for all of the tourists out at pier 39. if it was that or the last thing they did with family before heading to the airport everyone agreed there is no better time to be out enjoying the city. >> the weather is great, you know. a bunch of things to do in the city. >> this is our first venture into san francisco. we are doing the tourist sites today. >> there are three cities in the united states, right? new york, san francisco and new orleans. everywhere else is just cleveland.
