9:26 pm
>> this came up fast. i will show you how quickly the air quality went down today. i will do my best at help us understand what happened. where did this come from? and then we will look at how long this might stick around. so, certainly not by the end of the week but we showed you an incredible time-lapse. we will use the virtual map to show you what the winds look like. if we have that time-lapse in the monitor, that would be a great time to show it. that is the view from mount diablo today, looking across towards mount tam, look at how thick the haze was. that was one of the vantage points that really drives the point home. you just how thick this got today, no doubt you had your experience wherever you work in the bay area today, you noticed this. let's switch back over to the weather computer now. we will take a look at some of the air-quality readings. orange is unhealthy, red is just flat unhealthy. what happened today? the central valley had a lot of four unhealthy air quality, that has been going on for a while. it is a lot easier to do

that in the central valley. if you look at the pattern on here, the air-quality god more degraded, the closer that you were to the delta, and the pathway to the central valley. look at santa clara valley, you are more moderate look up towards the delta and the media bay. this was poor air quality. we also imported a lot of this, from the central valley. let me show you how that happened. we will come back over towards the virtual set, we will take a look at the winds in terms of how they were blowing across the bay this morning when we started to really see the air-quality go downhill. the streamlines on your show you everything is coming in from the central valley. that is what pulled a lot of that poor air quality. this is smoke largely from wood-burning fireplaces. it is hard to believe but this accumulates over time. it is the number one offender in the winter, here in california when we see bad

air-quality like this. i know it is hard to believe how innocent a fireplace can be, but if enough people across a highly populated or densely populated region are not necessarily paying attention to that and just lighting their fireplaces, it does add up. here is the good news, as we get into tomorrow, the winds will shift a little bit but not enough to clear this out but by early next week it will. let me switch this ahead to monday, now we have a stronger offshore wind. this won't be terribly windy, but it should be strong enough to start mixing up the atmosphere. and improving the situation. but that won't happen until we get into the early part of this coming week. we have a couple of other things to talk about. it will be cold , so don't get taken off guard by this. take a look at the numbers across the bay, tomorrow morning and then again on monday and then on tuesday, we will actually bottom out a little bit lower. tuesday will be the coldest of the week. we will see plenty of locations in
