hading heading home for the hol -- heading home for the holidays this weekend. more than a million people expected to pass through the airport before the end of the year. aaa expects 2024 to be another record-breaking year and expect more than 119 million people, -- not 120 million. how do they figure this out? they'll travel between today and new year's. while major winter storms are not expected in the days leading up to christmas, we have plenty to keep us busy. the storms could create delays at the airport and back ups on the road. you know what i don't think we have mentioned? something special about this day? >> huh? >> solstice. >> yeah! >> happened very, very early today. >> 1:21 a.m. i was up. >> were you? >> i was! i was checking to see what it was doing. >> so glad you're on that. >> that's the the main takeaway most people should take. if you want to get more daylight and we start rounding the corner, usually start to notice it on december 25th and there's a reason for that.

>> we're not going to notice it the next few days. >> we won't. >> this is the high surf advisory for the coast and we'll talk all about the rain with several different storms. big surf coming our way. i'll take that wave depiction and play that forward. watch the wave energy come our way. so the storm that's developed out there is going to put a big enough swell here along the coast that the high surf warning goes through sunday night and they're going to have to extend that. into monday there is more wave energy coming on monday. the main takeaway on this is coming into that big holiday weekend and someone that wants to go to the beach and maybe can't see where they live. stay away from the surf! make sure you don't turn your back on it and don't take it for granted because these are the the kinds of situations where over the past several winters people have lost their lives on days like this. from unsuspecting waves pulling them out. keep all of that in mind. now let's move on. what we want to take a look at is the approach of this next system. and there are 2 of them. i will come back to the

forecast imagery where we can kind of nail down to the details. we'll leave behind that look at radar. and two different storms over the next 3 days and say goodbye to the showers and look at that at the top of the newscast. what we'll watch is the next 2 coming our way. plenty of clouds throughout sunday. and then on sunday, late afternoon, the next entirely separate storm arrives. this is not the real impressive one, but the next one. that sunday in the afternoon at 4:00 hour and watch that line of rain. it marches its way across the entire bay and gets in the north bay about 6:00 tomorrow and down by the golden gate. to about 9:30 and then falls apart. i don't think they'll get anything from this. i think it will will weaken and fall apart by the time it gets to you. but another half inch in the bay, and for perspective, watch the screen light up as we get into very early tuesday morning from a much more impressive
11:19 pm
cold front. you see a lot deeper shades of red on this with longer connections and better organization and it will get to the south bay, but the real concern here is what it does as it marches across the bay. right here. we'll take this hour by hour. 3 a.m. on tuesday morning. this is christmas eve morning. sun hasn't even come up yet. raining pretty good in north bay and then down to the golden gate at 4 a.m. and now a well put together cold front. these are the lines that can do a couple of things. heavy downpours and brief as they come through. gusty winds and the occasional embedded thunderstorm. along this line as that marches its way through. so kind of situation where tuesday morning you could get woken up by a rumble of thunder at 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. here it is across the the city at 5 a.m. this is the the most important aspect of the whole forecast. it is going to be this tuesday morning storm as it comes through. for heavy rain, winds, possibly 40 mph gusts and it's not going
11:20 pm
to be pleasant to be on the roads through the tuesday morning time frame. then once we get to the later hours of tuesday morning and the front passes and weakens as it goes over the south bay, we get back into the center of things here and it is more isolated showers and occasional thunderstorms that crop up as they move across the center of the bay. that is going to get us through probably tuesday morning and into the early afternoon. that is the main focus. let's get into the 7 day forecast and show you what that looks like. plenty of days with the chance of rain on it. this is that main focus on tuesday morning. by wednesday, chris mals day, -- christmas day, a nice break and look ahead into thursday and friday and saturday with another system. more on that as we get closer to it. andrea, over to you. >> thank you, darren. in sports, the warriors couldn't -- were looking to put that 51 point loss to memphis on thursday behind them. but could they do it without dre mont and moses moody? stick around
