6:03 am
wondering why . it has to do with the fact we are dealing with fog closer to the coast and we are dealing with stronger winds. foggier conditions and stronger winds especially overnight, keep us warmer and that is exactly why we are seeing it closer to the coast. by this afternoon we expect everybody to see those winds picking up, only five to 10 miles an hour. i will let you know when the gustier winds will arrive coming up in my full forecast. police in berkeley are investigating a triple stabbing that left a woman dead. this video you are looking at is from the citizen at . officers went to an area on russell street near san pablo park yesterday afternoon after getting reports of a stolen car. then they heard about several people lying on the ground at the scene. that is where they found a woman in two men who had been stabbed. all three victims were rushed to a hospital, but we are told the woman died . the two men are

civil rights attorney i am heartbroken about the civil rights that are about to be violated. as your city attorney, i am heartbroken that on monday, we are about to inaugurate a president who does not respect the rule of law that is going to violate united states constitution. >> i really believe that trump has not bought this thoroughly through . because if you really study and look at the immigrant population in this country today, the economy would collapse. and it is inhumane to deport people who have been working 30-40 years as the nannies, as the dishwashers, as the janitors. >> reporter: there is also a lot of outrage from those who believe women's rights, specifically reproductive rights, are at risk. >> what we are fighting for, or fighting against, are things that have happened and things

they have said they want to happen. we are here to say we will not go quietly. we will not go backwards. >> reporter: and sf resident, thinks trump's victory over kamala harris was based in resentment over women gaining more power in society. >> the men are being threatened by that and they are masking it kind of like, a low voice inside of them saying, they are taking our manly hood and all this. you know. >> reporter: there was concern about billionaires influencing social policy under a trump administration. for the first time, this woman from petaluma said she feels the country could be heading towards becoming an oligarchy. >> it seems like people like elon musk, who are tech billionaires at all these people that trump has been surrounding himself with, seem like they do not have connection to everyday people and they don't particularly care what happens to everyday people. >> reporter: the protesters believe there were huge issues
6:07 am
at stake including democracy itself. but for a small group of trump supporters at the march, it boiled down to one issue, fears over transgender rights . >> i am just here because we need to wake up . this should not be a political issue. you know, girls and boys are being harmed by this ideology. why do you think that is not true? trump has promised on his first day in office that he will return sports , so sports for girls and women will again be only for females. >> reporter: after an election that focused on was entirely on stoking fear, it is probably not surprising that many people are afraid of what president trump might do an already preparing for battle. >> is similar and large event happened in washington, d.c. thousands of people marched through city streets as they highlighted multiple issues, including reproductive rights , climate change, gun violence and social justice. >> i am very concerned about the backlash against reproductive rights . i am very concerned about the threats to

than 30,000 people are still under evacuation orders. others are slowly returning to their neighborhoods . but many neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble. about 4000 structures have been destroyed in the palisades fire and another 9000 in the eaton fire. among the thousands of people who lost their homes is rich de leon from altadena mountain rescue. he helped people find safety on the night the eaton fire account. >> it was terrible. the embers were blowing it was like sideways rain. except it was fire. >> you cannot believe this is your house. >> you have lost everything but you still working and volunteering. >> you could to come out and help people. >> the eaton fire has burned 14,000 acres and is now 81% contained . the palisades fire burned 23,000 acres and that fire is 52% contained as of this morning. in the bay area there are a lot of questions about whether san francisco is ready for a major firestorm or earthquake , should it happen.
6:14 am
on saturday the fire department showcase the city's robust water supply system right along the waterfront. our da lin was there to see that demonstration. >> reporter: part training, part showcasing the ability to fight a major firestorm, the saturday demonstration along the waterfront caught the attention of his family, visiting from l.a. >> after two very stressful weeks, we decided to come here to stay with our friends a little bit and get away. from the fires and the smell. >> reporter: this family live right outside of the pacific palisades evacuation zone. >> there was one night we were ready to pack up and ready to go. essentially, luckily, we do not have to evacuate. >> reporter: they are glad cities like san francisco learning from the problems that arose from la's firefights .
6:15 am
one of the major issues in l.a. was the hydrants running dry or had low pressure, which led to delays in putting up claims. >> we have to continue to be as prepared as possible. whatever comes our way , with the challenges that we face and what southern california faces, you can never be too prepared . i am committed to making sure we as prepared as possible. >> reporter: mayor daniel lurie and the new fire chief say they have redundancies in place to prevent dry hydrants and low pressure. firefighters can get water from the standard hydrants, which have the white tops and they can also get water from the high pressure hydrants supplied by three reservoirs. those have blue, red , or black tops and firefighters can also draft saltwater from the bay. >> each carry 6600 feet, five inch hose. and we can actually use relays to move this system very far into the center of the city. it is very effective . >> reporter: they can use fire boats to fight fires along the waterfront. >> an impressive . that we can
6:16 am
use bay water to help put out fires, is something that is good for everybody to know. >> reporter: for this family, taking a break from the poor air quality back home , they say the demonstration and tour were nice surprises. >> our son is very interested in it and even told us last week, saying he wanted to be a firefighter in the future. >> reporter: look out for ethan, the future firefighter. aside from first responders, city leaders say people at homes should be prepared, have an emergency plan with the family and enough supplies to last for at least three days. switching to the first alert weather with the meteorologist zoe mintz, when we talk about the containment of the fires, that is been a struggle and they are making good progress in southern california. but the winds may
6:17 am
be a concern today. >> actually, tomorrow. today is the last day they have to hopefully get some more contained in underway. and hopefully they know the direction of the incoming winds and offshore flows so they can get containment where the winds are expected to be heaviest because that will be an issue stepping out tomorrow for them. the biggest question is exactly how strong they will get. it is not just them, we will be dealing with a diablo winds event and today , it will be another lovely one today. we are at chilly temperatures to start the morning but we will warm up this afternoon, not as warm as yesterday. you notice the temperatures, the colors are not as deep of yellow and no longer getting into those orange colors that signify the warmer temperatures. the highs will be in the mid to upper 50s for most of us, maybe low 60s in our most inland and santa clara valley communities but either way this is seasonable for this time of year, may be a degree or two below average. and the reason is because of the onshore flow that we will be dealing with. we are going to deal with a very strong onshore flow this afternoon . and that is the reason that we will continue to see the cooler and more comfortable temperatures throughout today. and into tomorrow . that is
6:18 am
when the winds will really begin to pick up. overnight tonight with slightly gustier winds our overnight low temperatures are not expected to be nearly as chilly but they will be chilly and you will see the deeper blues make it away and in they will be sitting in the upper 30s to low 40s, just depending on where you are located. again, the winds is the biggest impact and i want you to pay attention to the direction of the winds . because this is today's winds where we are dealing with a little bit of the offshore flow, onshore flow kind of just depends into this afternoon, we are going to be seeing a lot more of the windier conditions. and it looks like my winds don't want to work now, let's take them off and hopefully we put them back on and they will work because it is cool to watch the change in wind direction appeared today, onshore by tomorrow look at how quickly the winds switched from entre today to offshore tomorrow and offshore winds as many know, bring very, very dry air . they will be strong offshore winds that we will see
6:19 am
their anywhere from 25 to 35 and upwards of 40 miles an hour for a more inland and east bay communities. it will be easy tomorrow, thanks to the offshore flow. i want to look really quick at southern california because they will be dealing with quite a lot of the wind gusts activity and they will be dealing with stronger winds than we will, as high pressure and low pressure meet once again . another one of the inside sliders storm systems . you can see the strongest winds over southern california and that system will quickly depart and we are expecting more clouds arrive by as soon as tuesday and wednesday. taking a look at the timing of the winds, they will arrive for us in the bay area early tomorrow morning. and pushing south over california , and southern california will be dealing with the strongest of the winds late monday into early tuesday. it is something we will keep a very close eye on, especially in southern california. but for us in the bay area, it will be
6:20 am
windy but not necessarily fire danger concerns . that is good news for us. even though dry weather will likely stick around for the next seven days, all you need your sunglasses and not the umbrella. coming up after the break, cocco gauff advances in the australian open. details on her comeback during today's match. coming up in sports, while divisional round saturday in the nfl two teams have concert tickets to championship weekend and one of the top seeds heather super bowl dreams spoil. and the warriors welcome back jor

6:48 am
today you may see gusts of 15 to 20 miles per hour and tomorrow afternoon these are the wind gusts. southern parts of the bay area maybe 25 or 35 miles per hour, northern parts of the bay area will be in the 35 to 45 mile-per-hour range. i would not be surprised if there is a wind advisory in the highest elevations of our north bay communities and the offshore wind continues to usher in the drier conditions. but again, there is not a heightened fire danger for us in the bay area yet because of the rain we saw weeks ago. we need more rain and very unfortunately, i do not see any rain at least over the next seven days. we are going to see an error of high pressure that will dominate but what is really interesting is even though today the onshore flow is keeping the clouds and the fog hanging on closer to our coastal communities, look at how quickly the onshore flow switches to offshore by as soon as tomorrow morning. pushes all

the clouds away. tomorrow morning we will not be waking up with nearly as much fog as the high pressure continues to envelop us and continues to dominate or at least the week of weather ahead of us. temperatures are going to remain above average and high pressure again locks overhead and it traps in the particulate matter and to keep stoppages above average along with an offshore flow continuing to offshore in drier conditions. but there is the potential by the time we step out next weekend, that is about 10 plus days from now , that there could be a bit of a pattern shift . by the end of our long-range models, about 13 to 14 days out from now there is the slight potential for a few more showers. it is not a strong get a signal to say it will happen but at least there is signals of a changing weather pattern over the next seven days . no
