dispensary owner in san francisco is facing a long road to recovery. this happened monday in the city's mid-market neighborhood and those close to him say martin all of has been no stranger to adversity all his life. kelsey has more on the shooting and friends trying to rally to support him. >> reporter: richard pelley on the says he was working behind the counter at all-star cafe monday night when gunshots rang out. >> at first, everybody thought it was fireworks. you know? so everybody is turning around, looking. then everybody duct because it just kept going. >> reporter: after that, comps flooded the area. >> we saw 10 cop cars pull up. >> reporter: richard says he quickly closed up his shop and got out of there. it was not

until later he learned the man who was shot with the owner of the dispensary across the street. >> he is a very respectful dude. he will talk to you if you are smoking in there. sometimes he would smoke with us. >> reporter: that man is martin all of, the owner of the vapor room . >> marquan is one of the wittiest, like most clever people i have ever known. and he doesn't -- he doesn't -- he doesn't deserve what happened to him. >> reporter: he has known martin for over 20 years. they met when jason gave martin a tattoo. >> very close. like brothers. >> reporter: since that time, jason moved up to oregon with his family. he says martin has had a tough go. the original location of the vapor room shut down in 2012. then about 10

years ago, martin had a brain aneurysm. >> for all this to happen is just very crushing. >> reporter: richard says martin is now recovering in the hospital. he says friends have been sending video updates and martin seems to be taking it in stride. >> he had to get stitches all along his chin and he is still making jokes. >> reporter: still, jason knows the road to recovery will be a long one for martin. that is why he started a fundraiser that has now raised $55,000 in counting. >> and to see that many people have donated, there is a sense of love in that and a sense of community. and so it got me pretty emotional. >> reporter: even richard, who has only met martin a few times, says he could sense he was

special. now, all he is hoping for is to see martin back across the street soon. >> if there was one person to help to make a change over here, he was really quick. if there was a petition to change something, he was always the first one over there to help. many, many hopes and pressure that man. coaches, students, and university have filed a lawsuit against the school. alleging the entire athletics department disproportionately affects students of color. it will eliminate all ncaa division ii sports programs, layout dozens of faculty and staff members, and programs at the school starting next school year. members of the athletic program are asking for an injunction against the university that would hold any further cuts to their sports programs. we reached out to sonoma state for the new civil rights complaint but have not heard back just yet. failures during the deadly

wildfires. like watch duty and alert l.a. county rely on a complex chain of communications between first responders, government administrators, and third-party companies. but some evacuation orders came long after homes were already on fire. an investigation could take months to determine what exactly went wrong. and take a look at this. new body cam footage showing the rescue of a woman during the eden fire. deputies were trying to make sure all residents had been evacuated. they rushed through a darkened building with flashlights calling to anyone left behind. that is when they discovered a 100-year-old woman disoriented and struggling to find her way out. >> i have been trying to find a way out. >> let's get you out of here. >> don't lose me. >> i promise.

well, federal chair jerome powell holding rates at its current level. he believes the current rate will help keep inflation down from 2.9% to the fed's target of just 2%. egg prices are continuing to rise this year. a dozen eggs on average cost about $4.15 today compared to $2.51 a year ago. and it is not because of inflation. egg prices are predicted to increase 20% this year alone has renewed bird flu outbreaks impact farms nationwide. so what do pablo picasso, elvis presley, walt disney, and charles darwin all have in common? well, they all owned pigeons. now, these feathered friends are mostly seen as a nuisance. pigeons might be a perfect pet.

like so much of january, today was another dry day and we have got one more dry, calm day before things change. i am going to bring on the radar simulation over the next eight days. friday. go all the way through next week. you see this firehose swinging all the way up and down the entire west coast, including

the bay area. we will be seen rain headed our way as we head into the weekend but continuing into the first half of next week. this is going to be a pretty long stretch of wet weather as we begin the month of february. it feels like january has lasted forever. beautiful look at the post sunsets guys. we look out from our hotel. temperatures mostly in the 50s but it is down to 47 degrees already in santa rose. it took a while for the fog to back up to the coast. it really didn't in the north bay, which is why temperatures are cooler there. let check out futurecast. and it shows the clouds becoming widespread. and overnight, so spreading out away from the coast. a great start to thursday. we will see the sun breaking through inland first. a mix of clouds and sunshine by tomorrow afternoon, but then the clouds are going to increase and we see those rain chances headed our way by late tomorrow night into friday morning. pretty

close to typical january temperatures. a degree below average in san jose. about 1 to 3 degrees below normal. cold but not what you would call chilly. most of us, mid to upper 50s. the coolest in my thoughts will be inland where the fog will be a little more stubborn. let's take a look at the forecast radar simulation on a closer perspective here. we will start 10:00 tomorrow evening and start. we will freeze the map here at 4:00 a.m. that is when we see some showers actually hitting the ground, mostly in the north bay. that is where the rain will be concentrated for the first half of the day. 10:00 a.m. friday. we see showers continuing to stream. towards the end of that animation, the showers are beginning to make their way towards san francisco and the previous forecast data was indicating this would be almost entirely a north bay

event without any rain elsewhere across the north bay area. looking at a chance of at least light showers making their way into the santa clara valley. that is a trend that will continue into friday late afternoon and evening. we are not talking about any flooding potential but this will help saturate the ground. and subsequent waves move in, that is where we have the potential for maybe a little too much rain in too little time. we are talking about estimates that bring us over 1 1/2 inches of rain in san jose to over 6 inches in parts of the north bay around santa rosa. the boom and bust amounts indicate the high end of the reasonable range of possibilities, and it is still a wide range because this is still a evolving weather pattern for san francisco. we expect about 3 1/2 inches of rain over the next seven days but of things shipped barely 1 1/2 inches of rain would fall. but if we had a

jackpot, potentially more than 8 inches of total rainfall. things could go in either direction. it is going to be a stretch of wet weather. the question is how what is it going to be? we look at this change in the big picture pattern overall. again, much of january has been dry but that will suddenly ship for the end of the month and for several days of the new month. coming up at 6:00, some north bay seniors say their apartment complex is like living in a freezer, and they are facing skyrocketing bills just trying to stay warm. it has forced some to choose between paying for the energy bill and paying for food. plus, oakland has a new face and she is taking the reins. we will check in with lateefah simon on her first working trip home since she was sworn in. and as we bring in the year
