about how the nba is in a slump, critics coming out of the wood work to say things like too many threes, not enough defense, boring, nobody's watching. well, let's see what those people are saying now that it seems like much of the league has been totally realigned. more trade deadline drama tonight, this time affecting the bay area. all right, vern glenn, we know when we have the honor of starting the show with him, there is something big going on. so tell us about this massive trade. jimmy butler to the dubs. >> sara, it's a win now move to maximize the window of steph curry and draymond green. jimmy butler, he can hurt you defensively. he can make an array of shots, clutch shots, but most importantly, the warriors have been searching for another consistent star scorer to complement curry. he'll be better than this jimmy. >> jimmy's ready. jimmy's got some new moves. check jimmy out. >> butler agreed to a two-year

extension worth reportedly now $111 million. sacrificed are four warriors to three teams and a first round pick. the 35-year-old butler had been suspended by the heat for conduct detrimental to the team. that's over. so now the six-time all star will pair with steph curry to try and make the dubs a contender again. >> i know who jimmy is. been to two finals. he's a winner. i understand there's a lot of drama down there and who really knows what the story is. we expect to have a motivated, committed, you know, jimmy that's ready to impact our team for the better. got to work out the kinks of, you know, what it looks like, and i'm excited to get to work. >> as for the players leaving golden state, andrew wiggins is the headliner. he goes to miami. he was warming up in salt lake city when the news of the trade

broke. huge loss because he was more than a teammate. yes, he was the warriors second best player in the 2022 title run, but steve kerr loved him. also part of the trade, kyle anderson traded to the heat, dennis shrewder, who golden state picked up a couple months ago, is sent to utah, and lindy waters heads to detroit. butler had no options after failed attempts to force a trade with the sun. he gets more money and an extra year. the warriors are taking a risk, but they had to do something. they called everybody in the league until butler became the high profile player that they think that they needed. the trade deadline is noon tomorrow. butler could play for the warriors as early as saturday at chicago, sara. >> wow, it'll be interesting to see him in that jersey. so many changes. this has been a very dramatic trade deadline. more to come, maybe, before tomorrow? >> we just don't see it coming. it just hits us like a train.

working when you're unhappy and eventually everything will work out and you'll get paid $120 million. okay. what about dubs fans? real people on the ground in the bay area, everybody wanted good news as the trade deadline approaches. some fans we talked to feel like the warriors are on the losing end of the butler trade. and listen out for one fan who had a really, we'll say, interesting way of phrasing her thoughts. our andrea nakano was at thrive city tonight. >> butler scoops it up and in. >> reporter: dub nation is a loyal group of fans, but this news of bringing jimmy butler over from miami isn't the deal that many wanted. >> for jimmy butler? >> reporter: who did you want? >> literally anyone that's not jimmy butler. >> reporter: butler a six-time all star, seems like he would be an upgrade to andrew wiggins, who's being sent to miami as part of the deal, but butler's issues on and off the court have made him a hard player to like for many warriors fans.

city's leadership is opening a kind of one-stop shop to try and address drugs and crimes in the neighborhood. they've opened up a triage center near the sixth street corridor. a former parking lot now a work space for police. people offering drug treatment. there will even be bus or train tickets out of the city for people experiencing homelessness who have family or friends out of town. >> we're going to have a place to take people to where they can get checked out, they can get seen by people from department of public health. they can get seen by behavioral health specialists, and they can get the help that they need. >> just this week the board of supervisors voted to give lurie expanded powers to tackle homelessness. in fremont a crackdown on homeless encampments. the city will vote next week on whether to outlaw homeless encampments and make aiding, abetting, or concealing an illegal encampment a misdemeanor that could land you a major fine or six months in

jail. high schoolers in concord walked out of class this afternoon to protest potential mass deportations. students from several high schools in the mount diablo unified school district marched down to treat boulevard and oak grove road holding signs and flags to support undocumented immigrants. their message? no one deserves to be marginalized. >> there will be change eventually, you know, and to be honest we have to pass through these hard times first for us to get to the better. but yes, we are here to represent our community and to represent our families, because we are not what these narratives but on us. >> there were protests like this in cities across the country today targeting everything from the immigration enforcement to a roll back of transgender rights and president trump's suggestion to move palestinians out of the gaza strip. and speaking of the president, there is a lot of uncertainty about tariffs and a potential trade war between the u.s. and china. there is now a 10% tariff on all

things imported from china. beijing responded with its own tariffs on u.s. imports. here's a look at what could get more expensive, potentially. cellphones, laptops, toys, clothes, shoes, accessories, and car parts. the u.s. took in $420 billion worth of goods from china in 2023. local businesses are preparing too. our katie nielsen heard from a bike shop owner in livermore as he looks for ways to get around the price hikes. >> reporter: aj wright has been working on bikes ever since he was a kid, and within the past few years, he was able to move from a space in his garage to this shop in livermore where he sells mostly mountain bikes for kids and adults. >> when tariffs start to roll out, this is one of the biggest industries that's affected. >> reporter: he says the majority of the mass produced bicycles and components are made in china and based on the impending tariffs, the manufacturers are already increasing their prices. >> you get a $500 kid's bike,

now it's $550. if they put on a 10% tariff, that's $600. >> reporter: president trump recently announced a 10% tariff or tax on all goods imported from china, which impacts almost every industry in the u.s., according to experts. >> we import a lot of base ingredients from china that's used in a lot of various industries. you're talking pharmaceutical. you're talking the toy industry. you're talking electronics. so almost every industry in the united states would be impacted. >> reporter: because of that, aj decided to carry a new brand of bike that's all made in spain, a country he thinks is unlikely to face new u.s. tariffs any time soon. >> and i picked up mondraker. you don't have tariff effects. >> reporter: he says in general the higher end bikes and parts are made in the u.s. and japan, so they aren't impacted by the new tariffs as much as entry-level mass produced bikes which are more likely to come from china. but it's those entry-level bikes that are most attractive for people wanting to

ride to work and also for children. >> i am significantly worried about what's going to happen moving forward, especially with kids. getting kids on bikes is exciting because it gets them out of the house. it gets them to do something with their parents, and everybody is connected. flooding may not be surprising for people on the river, but it doesn't make it easy to deal with. >> we just put in a new patio. liked being on the river. >> especially when another storm is coming before they're even cleaned up from the last one. and that next storm is going to be moving in. the first shower hitting the coast before the sun comes up tomorrow morning with a wave of heavier rain around rush hour. we'll time out the entirety of this next system and talk about the gusty winds that will accompany it coming up in the first alert forecast. >> thank you, paul. however you know him, dubs fans are all going to get to know the eccentric nba star a whole lot better after tonight's blockbuster trade.

all right, we're about to show you the aftermath of flooding in the north bay. our chopper flew over sonoma county where homes and farms were still under water. take a look at that. and to add insult to injury, as we've been saying, more rain is on the way. there were also mudslides like this one that hit a home yesterday in unincorporated santa rosa. at least two people were trapped and had to be rescued after this. thankfully, they were okay, but a lot of the roof and the side of the house was damaged. and you can see from this wide shot, things could have actually been a lot worse, a lot more mud came down than the stuff that actually hit the house. >> i don't think insurance covers slides, landslides. how do you deal with a loss like that? it's going to be tough. >> neighbors tell us this is the same area that was burned in the tubbs fire in 2017. just devastating for those homeowners there. the russian river crested earlier today, but a lot of the low-lying areas around it are still under evacuation orders. the guerneville school district

will be closed again tomorrow. while weather like this is not new for people living there, our wilson walker found out that all that experience doesn't make the cleanup any easier. . >> reporter: yeah, so about 10:45 today we received a call, a report, of a vehicle into flood waters with one person trapped inside. and here we are. this is our fifth rescue just this morning. our fifth vehicle into a flooded waters. >> reporter: no injuries in those incidents, but a busy day for sonoma county rescue teams as the russian river crested in guerneville some time around 10:00. >> yeah, so that -- 35 is our moderate flood stage here for the lower area of the russian river in guerneville, and we're just at about 36, right, today. >> we just put in a new patio. nothing like being on the river. >> reporter: she saw the forecast but did not anticipate

this much water. >> we thought, okay, this came up to like 35 feet in november. >> reporter: the difference of a foot and a half meant her river-facing guest rooms. >> there's two right there and then the bathroom. those are usually our bridal suites. so i guess we'll be remodelling those this year. >> reporter: by way of comparison, we were at this very establishment back during the late february flood of 2019 when the river hit 45 feet. that affected the rooms all the way up to river road, so for homes it could have been worse in this, her first year as the owner here. >> i guess we got indoctrinated just like that. >> i've been here about five years, and it's never gotten this high. >> reporter: it was a reminder of how critical that moderate flood stage line can be. the earth smith lodge, for example, saw far less water back in november. >> well, i do have a storage

unit down here. so definitely everything below waist level is flooded in. >> reporter: and at the sight of tuesday's slide, no real changes as the county tries to figure out what is going on with the earth that gave way. >> yeah, there's people up there, the county has people out there and geologists and everybody's taking a look because there are other homes in the area as well so. we want to make sure everybody's safe. first alert weather powered by kia. learn more at kia.com. kia, movement that inspires. >> obviously for the people in that story you feel so bad. >> oh, i know. >> especially the mudslides and insurance not covering it. that's terrible. and now not only them but everybody else really has to be weather aware going into tomorrow, right? >> it's not going to be as vong as yesterday, either the rain or the wind, but everybody's on edge after yesterday. and just a little additional rain in the wrong spot could lead to flooding problems, so another first alert day tomorrow. let's talk about the big picture here, the really big picture. bring in the entire globe and talk about that next storm system that is

headed our way. satellite perspective, and there it is, that swirl of clouds is the heart of the storm system aiming a low wind atmospheric river towards the bay area and the west coast in general. in fact, it's really borderline in terms of whether it's even going to rank as an atmospheric river. gets into some technical details. this is going to send more moisture in the form of moderate to acationly heavy rain and gusty winds into the bay area. let's time out all of that with a look at the map a little closer to home. we'll talk about the radar perspective as we head through the rest of tonight into tomorrow morning. we'll start the map at 4:00 tomorrow morning, go through 10:00 a.m. this is when the showers start to pick up and then really rapidly intensify. one wave of heavier rain is going to move through around rush hour. for the rest of the morning what we're going to be dealing with is off and on rain. it's not going to rain everywhere all the time. it is going to be consistently wet throughout the day. as soon as one dry break settles in, it's not going to last more than 35 to 40 minutes, maybe an hour or two if you're really lucky. but the scattered showers are going to continue during the afternoon. there's a bit more

of a break by late afternoon. so hopefully the evening commute won't be quite as messy. i wouldn't count on it. this is one version of one forecast model. they can always wobble around a little bit. more scattered showers, even an outside chance of a thunderstorm tomorrow evening. we'll stop the map at 10:00 when it looks like things are starting to wind down. but that's when the actual center of this storm system is going to move in right over the bay area. and that's when it gets its strongest winds out of this system, late evening and early overnight. 10:00 tomorrow evening through 10:00 a.m. on friday, and things will start to actually wind down. the showers become few exer farther between. there are going to be some lingering leftover showers for at least the first half of the day on friday. but by friday afternoon we should be getting rid of those, and we should see dry weather settling in for at least a few consecutive days. the weekend does look dry. but let's talk about the amount of rain that we expect out of this next system, which is going to be more modest compared to some of the eye popping totals we added up with that latest double peaked atmospheric river. for the north bay, generally 0.5 an inch to an inch of total

rainfall. some spots picking up more than you would expect. the farther up in elevation you go could pick up closer to 1.5 inches of total rainfall. that doesn't sound like a lot, and it isn't in the big picture scheme of thicks. thiswrong spo lead to localized flooding issues, as i try not to choke on my cough drop here. lower amounts for most of the southern half of the bay area. around 0.5 an inch of total rainfall. less in the rain shadowed spots and more in the santa cruz mountains. the strongest winds occur late tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening. every six hours beginning at 10:00 tomorrow morning -- yesterday what we're going to see is more in the 30 to 40-mile-an-hour range for most of the bay area tomorrow, which is still strong enough to do a little bit of minor tree damage, result in sporadic power outages. the strongest gusts closer to the

coast in the 40 to 50-mile-per-hour range might be more problematic. a winter storm warning for the sierra. some of the peaks getting closer to three stg up to over 50-mile-an-hour. it's a messy situation in the sierra, something to keep in mind if you want to head up in that direction and take advantage of the fresh powder they've accumulated, i would wait until saturday morning to head up there, at least later in the day friday once the road crews have a chance to catch up. there's a dry weekend forecast. monday looks dry, then the forecast gets complicated towards the tail end. another system headed our way some time around the middle of next week. the details on that one are still pretty uncertain. so we're going to keep an eye on that for you, and we will just keep you updated as we head through super bowl weekend and nba trade deadline weekend, vern? all right there, paul. hey, straight ahead in sports, steph curry texted jimmy butler at halftime of the warriors game tonight. what did butler say? curry understandably said it was tough to play in salt lake city tonight, but they had to be

if you didn't know who jimmy butler was before now, you might have missed out on some of his best or most attention-grabbing moments, at least. jimmy buckets is also a coffee connoisseur with his own brick and mortar shop, big face. butler started that as a side business when he was in the nba during the pandemic bubble era. he's also a music fan, revealing to rolling stone in 2023 he has a country album on
