the kansas city chiefs' three-peat denied. the philadelphia eagles knock off the reigning super bowl champs. joy and outrage. three more israeli hostages are freed by hamas over the weekend. israelis horrified over their frail condition. factory explosion. a blast and fire rock a pennsylvania industrial plant, we'll have the latest on the injured. good morning, i'm michael george. well, the philadelphia eagles are super bowl champs after beating the kansas city chiefs 40-22. the eagles denying the chiefs a super bowl three-peat and a chance at history. the eagles played like they had a chip on their shoulder from their loss to the chiefs in 2023's super bowl. the eagles' defense led the way and were dominant. they harassed, sacked, and picked off patrick mahomes all game. in philadelphia the celebrations began on broad street. thousands of the philly faithful poured out on the streets to celebrate the decisive victory.

danya bacchus is in new orleans. good morning. tens of thousands of fans where you are. talk about the energy there. >> reporter: yeah, i mean, the energy here was electric during the game. at one point we were trying to figure out if there were more chiefs fans or eagles fans, and i have to tell you those eagles fans came out in full force. the celebration did not stop here at the superdome. it continued into the french quarter overnight. and the spirit of new orleans was on full display as diehard fans cheered on their teams. >> super bowl lix -- >> reporter: the philadelphia eagles are flying high, taking home the vince lombardi trophy after a dominating 40-22 win over the kansas city chiefs. >> eagles! >> champions! i am to the moon now. >> reporter: eagles' quarterback jalen hurts was named mvp. >> i believe we should have won championships. >> reporter: president trump was the first sitting commander in

chief to attend a super bowl. he had predicted a chiefs win, but the team struggled to put points on the board until the second half. >> credit to the eagles. they play better than us from start to publish. >> reporter: in addition to the game was the much-anticipated halftime show from grammy winner kendrick lamar. ♪ which included appearances from actor samuel l. jackson, singer sza, and tennis champion serena williams. >> when you can see the full field and all the movements and the -- kendrick was amazing. this being new orleans, musician from the big easy were well represented before kickoff. >> reporter: they include -- harry connick jr. -- ♪ >> reporter: -- and gamy and oscar winner jon batiste with the national anthem. ♪ singer lady gaga gave an emotional performance on bourbon street honoring the victims of last month's terror attack there as well as those impacted by the california wildfires and the recent plane crashes in

washington, d.c., and philadelphia. and of course we talked to some chiefs fans who said they are already looking forward to next year when they possibly can have the chance to do it all again. next year's super bowl lx will be held at levi stadium in schrier, home to the -- santa clara, home to the 49ers. in the middle east israelis are being asked to turn their shock into action. this following the return this weekend of three hostages held by hamas terrorists. chris livesay reports from tel aviv. >> reporter: after 16 months in hamas captivity, it shows. eli sharabi embraces his brother and sister just after his release from a dungeon. his father-in-law, peter brisley, comparing him to how he looked before and after was horrified.

"they deprived us of food and

water, but we are still alive" that cease-fire is holding, but barely in gaza. three palestinians were reportedly killed by israeli forces for getting too close to the border with israel, and in israel seeing those three frail hostages has left society stunned. besides attending the super bowl and hitting the links with tiger woods, president trump was busy with more sweeping executive orders. naomi ruchim is here to break it down. good morning. you know, some of these tariffs to talk about, they could affect the prices that we pay for all kinds of goods. >> reporter: we're not all done with the tariffs. we avoided some last week, but there are likely more to come. good morning to you. another week, another round of expansive executive orders. and all the fallout that tends to follow. this week, though, president donald trump does have a boost thanks to new polling where

voters describe him as tough, energetic, focused, and effective. still, the blow back on many of his cuts and policies is vast and highly divisive. president donald trump has a new target in his quest to cut government spending -- the american penny. overnight he announced on social media that he has instructed the treasury secretary to stop making new pennies, which costs more than three cents to make. also happening today, president trump says he will announce new tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports including from canada and mexico. and later this week, he'll come out with new reciprocal tariffs on countries worldwide. >> they are charging us 130%, we're charging them nothing, it's not going to stay that way. >> reporter: new cbs news ugov polling shows the american public largely approves of the sweeping changes made the last

few weeks, with 70% of americans saying president trump is doing what he promised during the campaign. 66% say he's not doing enough to focus on lowering prices. the president says after dismantling usaid he's directing elon musk to look at overspending at other departments. democrats are trying to fight back against the president's agenda but admit they can only rely on court challenges. >> the checks and balances are working. what is not working is the way that the executive is behaving. >> reporter: so far as many as 12 federal judges have put pauses on the president's plans. in terms of ending the production of the penny, the u.s. mint reported losing more than $85 million last year making more than three billion pennies. meantime, congress is also facing a march 14th deadline on funding. if they don't pass a new spending bill by then, the government faces yet another

shutdown. so in addition to the courts, thats one other way the democrats feel they could potentially have some pull on these executive orders. >> all right. naomi ruchim, thanks for breaking that down for us. president trump has ordered security clearances stripped from some of his political enemies. the president revoking any access to classified information and barring entry to federal facilities to new york attorney general letitia james and manhattan district alvin bragg who both brought cases against trump. this comes just days after he revoked former president biden's access and announced that ex-secretary of state antony blinken and former biden national security adviser jake sullivan are also being blocked. the cause of an explosion and fire at a pennsylvania industrial plant is under investigation. about a dozen people were injured in the incident yesterday at the parker lord facility in crawford county north of pittsburgh. several firefighters were hurt.

it caused major damage to the plant that makes specialty materials. a powerful earthquake in the caribbean sea triggered tsunami warnings over the weekend. the 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit in the middle of the sea south of the cayman islands saturday. the u.s. national tsunami warning center issued a tsunami advisory for puerto rico and the u.s. virgin islands. that alert was later called off. no reports of major damage. coming up, quarterback aaron rodgers' days with the new york jets may be numbered after two disappointing seasons. and growls on the gridiron. the puppy bowl goes down to the wire. the wire. "usa today" reports on the alaskan commuter plane crash. authorities on saturday announced the bodies of all ten people have been recovered and identified. they say it's unclear what prompted the regional airline flight to vanish from radar last thursday and crash off the coast of western alaska. officials said they're not aware of any distress signals. "the cincinnati enquirer" reports on a lawsuit by the city of springfield, ohio, against a neo-nazi group. it alleges the group unleashed a torrent of hate over haitian immigrants and seeks unspecified damages. springfield was the focus of national debate during the presidential campaign with president trump falsely claiming haitian people were eating pets.

feeling sluggish after staying up for the super bowl? you can score a free cup of joe at starbucks. the coffee chain is giving their loyal customers a free tall hot or iced coffee any time today. here's the catch -- you've got to be part of the starbucks rewards program. the fda is recalling two million baked goods nationwide including some dunkin' donuts products over concerns of potential listeria contamination. the products in question were produced by fgf brands before december 13, 2024. it includes 60 various doughnut products such as cake rings, fritters, and munchkins, some of which are sold at dunkin'. the recall does not include items that are currently or were recently for sale in stores. no products or food contact surfaces ever tested positive for listeria, and no illnesses have been reported. sony's playstation network reported a major worldwide

outage, and crayola brings back some color fan favorites. here's carissa lawson with today's cbs "moneywatch." >> reporter: wall street continued to get hammered by tariff talks as investors wait for the next round of announcements coming later today. friday the dow tumbled 444 points. the nasdaq took a 268-point hit. and the s&p 500 lost 57. playstation gamers were on the losing end of a massive global outage over the weekend. it started on friday with complaints pouring in for more than 24 hours. users couldn't access any services like the playstation store or their online accounts. by saturday night, playstation announced all servers were up and running again. the company did not say what caused the massive outage. back by popular demand and for the first time in crayola's 122-year history the company is bringing back eight nostalgic fan favorite crayon colors. the returning colors include dandelion, orange red, and violet blue.
