with the all-star game, valentine's day and the lunar new year, how restaurants are gearing up. then how nba players in town for all-star weekend are giving back at the bay area food banks. later, police in san francisco are investigating a group of men claiming to work for elon musk, demanding sensitive data from city hall. >> i'm ryan yamamoto. well, there are tens of thousands of basketball fans enjoying all the bay area has to offer for all-star weekend with events and festivities across oakland and in san francisco. students got a chance to learn from some of the best in the world today at the nba and wnba junior annual basketball clinic. it was led by current and former players and students tell us they also made some friends. >> marquis from my school because he got that good pass, then marquis again. >> this was the eighth time nike

has hosted that event. all-star weekend also has heart. hundreds of volunteers, including current and former nba and wnba players have helped out the community around the bay area. volunteers were at the san francisco marin food bank today and helped pack meals and we spoke with warriors center kevon looney about why he came out today. >> they show so much love and support and come to all our games. for me to spend a little time and help them, it's a blessing. >> he's the tallest volunteer out there. the food bank serves more than 50,000 families a week. the fact that all-star weekend fell on valentine's day, it's creating the perfect storm for bay area restaurants. all those people looking for a night out is making it practically impossible to find a reservation. our sooji nam has the details. >> this is kind of my ode to

california. >> reporter: dustin falcon, executive chef at micu steakhouse, in san francisco says great service is all in the details. >> it burns really hot, not an overly smoky taste. >> reporter: the restaurant opens six years ago on valentine's day. the preparations for one of the busiest nights of the year never stop. according to open table, the restaurant reservation platform, this michelin star restaurant is one of the top businesses fully booked for valentine's day weekend. one of the reasons? special events like at their butcher shop next-door. >> on valentine's on friday and saturday, we seat eight guests around here and it's a very, very private experience. we dim the lights and it's just myself, rebecca and then eight guests. >> reporter: it could be the busiest weekend of the year for dustin and his team. between valentine's day, the nba all-star game, and chinese new year celebrations, he's got his hands full. >> coming up next is going to be

funding to schools that require covid vaccine, another that establishes a new energy panel. he's calling it the energy dominance council. it comes as efforts to slash the federal workforce receives backlash. today thousands of federal workers received notice they have been fired. this group protested today in washington, d.c., calling themselves federal workers against doge. the cuts have landed on multiple agencies, including the department of veterans affairs, the u.s. forest service, the department of education and others. trump has said he is attempting to cut down on government bloat. on capitol hill democratic lawmakers are also ramping up their attacks on the firing which have been led by elon musk and his department of government efficiency. the san francisco sheriff's office is investigating three men in doge shirts and maga hats that walked into san francisco city hall today and demanded they be given digital

california's insurance commissioner just rejected state farm's request for an emergency rate hike due to the l.a. wildfires. the home insurer wanted to raise rates by 22% for homeowners, 15% for condo owners and 38% for rental dwellings. state farm says it's paid out nearly $1 billion from its depleted cash reserves, but commissioner richard lara said

state farm failed to improve it needs the increases. new details what might have happened on board that black hawk helicopter involved in the deadly midair crash outside washington, d.c. last month, the ntsb said the helicopter's al altimeter may have been inaccurate. >> data from the black hawk indicated that the portion of the transmission stated pass behind the may not have been received by the black hawk crew. transmission was stepped on by a 0.8 second mic key from the black hawk. the black hawk was keying the mic to communicate with atc. >> investigators wrapped up their own on-scene portion of the investigation and will move the wreckage to a secure location. the crash killed the three people in the helicopter

that hit this mobile home park in oxnard. it was a tornado. people living there said it only lasted a few minutes, but that was enough to wreck these homes. the national weather service said winds in the area were more than 50 miles an hour at the time. even outside here -- >> it had to be more than 50 if it was a tornado. >> even in the bay area it's been breezy. >> now the winds are starting to relax. this system is moving out and we settle into a calmer pattern probably the next couple weeks overall. let's look at the big picture perspective and look where our latest storm is going and the next one trying to line up over the pacific. all that cloud cover through the middle of the country is our storm system that's moving out. it will cause all sorts of problems along and east of the mississippi river. here's the next storm system over the pacific, that big swirl of

clouds. it looks ominous, but the bulk of energy and moisture with that will miss us. there is an outside chance of a couple showers making their way through the bay area sunday, but i think they'll be few and far between. we'll keep you updated. first let's look at what things look like outside right now, check out from salesforce tower. we're seeing temperatures in the low to mid-50s as the sun goes down, a little cool today, definitely breezy, but the winds are relaxing and without a blank of clouds or strong winds to mix the atmosphere around, these cool temperatures will become chilly temperatures heading through the rest of tonight. let's look at the forecast lows which are mostly going to be in the 30s inland. it's going to be a mix of 30s and 40s even near the water, upper 30s for bodega bay and pacifica, mid-30s on the cold end of the spectrum, a frost advisory in effect. some of the warmest temperatures are barely holding onto 40 degrees in san jose with a lot of

temperatures in the santa clara valley dipping to the mid-and upper 30s. we'll climb up to mostly low 60s inland with a mix of upper 50s and low 60s around the bay, mid-50s along the coast. some of the coolest inland temperatures will be in the north bay. you'll struggle up to around 60 degrees. all these numbers are within 2 or 3 degrees of normal for this time of year, very similar temperatures on sunday, even with more cloud cover and a chance for a couple showers. this is futurecast. this is the most likely scenario, that we see a few showers trying to run through the north bay sunday morning, but they don't hold together as they try to move farther into the bay area. i'll replay it once more. this won't amount to much, barely a trace of moisture, even for the north bay. other forecast models are a little more aggressive, but i'm not quite buying into that. if we don't see measurable rain, it looks like it will be a while before we do see the next rainmaker headed our way. this is the six to ten-day outlook

from the climate prediction center, talk about a flip for the back half of february. so much rain during the first two weeks of the month, but now a strong signal towards drier than normal conditions in the eight to 14-day outlook which takes us to the end of the month. it seems like it's been all or nothing this winter. that trend does look like it's going to hold through the last of this month. let's look at the seven-day forecast and start with inland parts of the bay area. we'll put that chance of showers in the forecast sunday to be on the safe side. otherwise, it looks like things stay dry with a mix of clouds and sunshine and temperatures warming to the upper 60s thursday and friday for inland parts of the bay area. some of the warmest spots may touch 70 degrees. temperatures around the bay will warm up, just not quite as much. those bayside temperatures are more likely to reach the low to mid-60s by tuesday through friday, at abbreviated workweek following presidents' day, and temperatures along the coast won't warm up nearly as much, but should be up to around 60
