out already, but i digress. there are thousands and thousands of people here in the bay area right now for all of the events going on. walking around downtown san francisco it just feels different. there are visitors everywhere. there are town cars and sprinter vans lined up outside every hotel. a lot of that action is for, of course, all-star weekend. there are tons of cool things to see around town, including this, a michael jordan-themed drone show that has been lighting up the san francisco bay on and off the last couple of nights right near the bay bridge. lots of people have been posting about this on social media. this other one you can see for miles, the transamerica pyramid. it has a pretty incredible light display going for all-star weekend. it stretches all the way down the side of the building. you can only see a sliver of it there. you can't miss it if you're downtown. probably the largest event today, at least physically speaking, is nba crossover. it opened earlier today at the moscone center. it is

essentially the ultimate nba fan experience. there were courts with different shooting challenges. there was merch. there was a huge draw, some big time nba players. >> a lot of interactive stuff like there's some nba players. we saw karl-anthony towns outside. yeah. that was cool. >> reporter: did you say anything to him? >> oh, i was like hi, kat. hey, kat. >> i was there, too. i got a glimpse of victor wembanyama which is pretty easy to do even though he was surrounded by a ton of people. reporter kelsi thorud and i got to go head to head. stay tuned for that at my expense. there were two big games in the bay tonight, the celebrity game at the oakland arena and rising stars at chase center, which is where andrea nakano was, talking to fans who were so excited to see some of the young stars, but as andrea reports, it definitely came at a

price. >> reporter: fans filled chase center for the first all-star festivities in the bay area in 25 years. >> me and him came back in 2000 when it was at oracle. so it's kind of cool to have it come full circle. >> reporter: basketball has run through the shiner family for generations. it started with adam shiner's grandpa and now it's being passed down to his son maxwell. >> been a warriors fan, see them run tmc play, seen a lot of not so good basketball throughout the years. we believe was like the best and then we get steph and klay and draymond and the rest of the warriors for the last ten years has been special, too. >> reporter: the shiner family has soaked in all of the all-star festivities. >> it's fun to see the city come back to life. >> reporter: the highlight so far has been to watch their favorite player in the rising stars game. >> this is exciting. we love

pods. we're a big pods fan in our family. >> reporter: this experience, though, isn't quite the same for adam. >> i'm not going to lie. i miss oracle. >> reporter: he feels the atmosphere is a little different than it was at oracle. >> there is like a corporate and now oracle was real fans. you know what i mean? it's still fun. we still come to many games, but it's not oracle. >> reporter: and the atmosphere is not the only difference. >> the beer i just had was $20. i was like wow. you could get a 30-pack for that. >> reporter: tickets have come with a big price tag, more than what an average fan can afford. >> planning on coming tomorrow and sunday, but because the tickets were absolutely outrageous to start, but as the days and weeks have gone, they've gotten a lot cheaper. >> reporter: but for this family, they wanted to experience as much of this weekend as they can. it was a fond memory for adam when he went with his dad 25 years ago

and they hope it will be something that sticks with maxwell for years to come. >> special moments, yeah. that's what we live for. >> reporter: just to give you an idea how much it's going to cost you to get into the actual all-star game on sunday, tickets in the upper level are going for about $900. anything closer to the court could cost you more than $10,000. >> it is hard to imagine ticket that expensive in the nose bleeds. one of the big weekend highlights is a match-up tomorrow in oakland. two historically black colleges, tuskegee university and morehouse, the hbcu classic in its fourth year giving athletes a global stage for something bigger than just the game. >> it gives us an opportunity to show what hbcu athletes can really accomplish. they'll find out from the previous three and this one as well that we're just as good as the pwis and some of the bigger schools.

>> the hbcu classic tips off at 2:00 tomorrow at oakland arena. this weekend is huge for businesses, thrive city, soma, moscone center the obvious hotspots. one newer watering hole, the lark bar near union square, is feeling a big boost already. the owner expects sales to spike 100%. he also owns the don club a couple blocks away. that one is a jazz club and it is booked up for private events all weekend thanks to the nba players association. >> there's a massive amount of people that follow along with them and they tend to need some refreshments and luckily, we've got a few spots on their doorstep. >> they're banking on the entourages coming in, too. all-star weekend is expected to have a $350 million economic impact in the bay area across many different industries. not to mention, tonight was already one of the biggest

nights for restaurants all year. it is valentine's day, after all. as our sooji nam explains, you have not booked a spot already for the weekend, you're problem out of luck. >> this is kind of my ode to california. >> reporter: dustin falcon, executive chef at niku steakhouse says the service is all in the details. >> it burns really hot. >> reporter: the restaurant opened on valentine's day six years ago, preparations for one of the busiest nights of the year never stopping. according to opentable, the restaurant reservation platform, this michelin star restaurant is one of the top businesses fully booked for valentine's day weekend. one of the reasons? special events like at their butcher shop next-door. >> on valentine's on friday and saturday we seat eight guests around here and it's a very,

thousands of people into the city. so many people are excited to ring in the year of the snake. the biggest and most colorful, the chinese new year parade, 21 floats will move through the streets and you can expect huge crowds. there's also a community street fair with more than 100 vendors along grant avenue. what if finding love was as easy as getting on b.a.r.t.? >> so we thought why not set up speed dating on a train. >> how they tried to help single riders with a special valentine's day trip. this last storm brought quite a bit of rain to the bay area. even the rain-shadowed valleys picked up more than 1 1/2 inches of rain in the shadow of the santa cruz mountains, about 1 2/3 inches in san jose, but now the forecast will be pretty dry for a while. checking a couple meager rain chances coming up in the first alert forecast. when you think all-star

weekend, you're probably expecting all-star moves, but that wasn't really going on when it comes to the 11:00 p.m. team. in case you've been living under a rock, it is valentine's day and you still have 30, 45 minutes to make it a decent one. for those looking for love, many of them are deleting the dating apps and putting down their phones entirely. our kara st. cyr shows us how bay area singles are turning to some pretty interesting strategies to make a connection in the digital age. >> reporter: alice hoffman once wrote that love is like a train. this year in berkeley those words have never rung truer. alicia trust works for b.a.r.t. and is spending valentine's day

organizing a makeshift love train for people over who are trying to find the one. >> no one wants to be alone on valentine's day and younger generations are sick of meeting people on dating apps. so we thought why not set up speed dating on a train? >> reporter: this train will have six cars dedicated to single riders. the event sold out in 12 hours. more than 200 guests are now expected on this journey for love. >> we have extra b.a.r.t. staff who will be on the train and our role is we're going to -- if we see two shy people just not participating, we're going to bring them together. we're going to have conversations with them, get that conversation started, just to help. >> reporter: for b.a.r.t. it's part of an effort to get people riding the trains again, but it also represents a larger push for single people to meet in person. pew research shows more than half of people under 30 are using the apps for romance, but in recent years usage is starting to dip. >> i think the people on them now know they're not having as

good of time as they want to. i know a lot of people that aren't. i think eventually it's going to phase out. >> i typically like to meet people in person more. i do both, but in person i thought i've had a better chance at like a relationship with. >> you're always swiping between people not really giving them the chance who they could be in person. you're just seeing what their profile looks like or just kind of judging someone based on the cover. >> reporter: dating coach and matchmaker susan trombetti says in-person connections work. >> it goes without saying you can judge somebody better in person. >> reporter: that's not to say you can't meet your special someone online. trombetti says people in their 20s have the most success finding long term relationships through apps. the success rate for that age group is about 17%. >> i do think the trends are going towards meeting people in person. that's what they say, but the majority, i think it's something like 90%, are on online dating apps. >> reporter: whether you meet

your special someone online or riding a b.a.r.t. love train, trombetti says your best bet is to be positive. >> don't give up on love. >> reporter: valentine's day, a chance to get out of your comfort zone and get your dating life back on track. first alert weather powered by kia. learn more at kia.com. kia, movement that inspires. >> the weather dried out just in time for people with valentine's day plans or singles awareness day plans. that latest storm system is moving to the east. a lot of cloud cover associated with that will bring big headaches to the eastern half of the country tomorrow, significant flooding threats, severe weather threat for the deep south. there's another storm system off the coast that looks very impressive, that big comma shape indicating a very well organized storm, but this will largely avoid the bay area. there is a chance maybe of a couple showers trying to move in our direction. let's look at the big picture perspective with the map of the

west coast. we'll bring in the radar simulation how this next storm system will spread some moisture towards the pacific northwest, even into northern california as we head through especially late tomorrow and into sunday, but we're going to be on the southern edge of even the hint of moisture that's going to try to head our way. there is one forecast model that's trying its best to bring a chance of showers into the bay area for the second half of the weekend on sunday. let's look at that. this is futurecast from 10:00 tomorrow evening through 4:00 on sunday and we are going to be seeing this moving farther and farther to the north. the bulk of that activity is falling apart as it tries to head our direction. there's a different one that tries to hold it together to a greater extent and send a better chance of showers into the bay area early sunday morning, mainly into the north bay, things falling apart as it tries to move deeper into the

bay area. this is the wettest case scenario and it's not very wet compared to what we've dealt with the past couple weeks. this is about the extent of our rain chance through the rest of the month of february. let's look at our rain chances over the next seven days. they are not impressive at all. there's a little 30% chance on sunday, another 20 to 30% chance on wednesday and that's it. if they amount to anything, it would be barely more than a trace of rainfall. the forecast otherwise looks dry through the end of february. we started the month with a very wet two-week stretch, looks like we'll end it with a very dry two-week stretch, will go into the books pretty normal statistically. things kind of come at us all or nothing this winter. with clear skies tonight temperatures will drop off, north bay valleys waking up to mid-30s, otherwise upper 30s inland and upper 30s

and low 40s along the bay and coast, a little below average, but we'll manage to warm up as we head into tomorrow afternoon, mostly low 60s inland, 62 the warm spot in san jose with upper 50s and low 60s around the bay and mid-50s along the coast. bodega bay and pacifica top out at 55 degrees. so we're talking about a 7-degree difference between the warmest and coolest spots. let's check out the seven-day forecast and start inland where there is a warm-up noticeable. there's a chance of showers trying to head our way sunday. we'll leave it out for wednesday for now. upper 60s and maybe a chance of 70 degrees. the warm-up isn't as noticeable around the bay, but still low to mid-60s by thursday and friday, which is above normal for late february. along the coast the warm-up will be around or maybe above 60 degrees by the end of next week. matt, what's going on in

having the nba all-star weekend in your city is you get to check out all of the fan experiences the league has to offer. today reporter kelsi thorud and i were at the nba crossover event at moscone center. the best part of that event i would argue is the hands-on basketball challenges you can take on. we decided to go head to head with the few minutes of down time we had. >> did you know what you were getting into? >> i found out in the moment she's a basketball player. >> kelsi is a baller. >> kelsi started shooting first. she played for her high school in oregon. by the way, fun fact, she says she was the tallest player on her team. she was listed at 5'10. she's actually 5'8. >> 10 is a stretch. >> if it looks like she's rusty, she's not. the balls had like no air in them. so we both struggled in the beginning, but here is the differencemaker. kelsi got into business mode. she lost the business casual,

the blazer, which she says is messing with her form. here she goes. once she got rid of it she got back into the flow, took her a second. the people working this event even complimented her on her form like multiple times. she did this in the middle of several live shots and she put a story together which i will say is not easy and requires kind of a lot of focus. so she was doing live shots, coming off and shooting around. so then it was my turn. i was hoping to represent for team 11:00 p.m., but i bricked. kelsi works at night, too but she's off work earlier. so it's early evenings versus the late night. there were a couple bricks. i was building a house at one point. my basketball credentials are less impressive. i have not played on a team since middle school, but i do play for fun when i can. when all was said and done, we both made a couple shots. however, i took more and missed more. so i she kelsi won. >> okay. it's going to be good to concede defeat. >> there was a bar just to the right of this. it wasn't a full
