immigrants march against deportation policies. and the trump administration is also showing up at big sports events over the weekend, while many things are happening nationwide. we'll tell you about that. the nba all-star weekend is here in the bay area. we'll have much more from chase center coming up. thanks for joining us this evening, i'm brian hackney. >> i'm andrea nakano. >> we'll begin with fear in the immigrant community. it is keeping some away from work and school. >> today, a large group is standing up against president donald trump's immigration policies and mass deportations. protesters march 21 miles from san mateo city hall to san francisco city hall. da lin reports. >> reporter: marching for change for dignity and for legalization. >> we were not back as our

communities will continue to get terrorized and criminalized and dehumanized. >> reporter: activists for martinez says this march, this fight is personal. >> we are demanding to have an immigration reform. with the path way for citizenship for many. i, myself, am a daca recipient. i have been one for over ten years. >> reporter: her family brought her here when she was three. now at 29 years old, there is still no clarity about her future status. >> they could take daca away tomorrow, and i wouldn't have any protections from deportations, and then i would be at risk of getting deported. >> reporter: president trump's deportations are striking fear. but martinez says they are here to speak up for those who are too afraid to step out of the shadows. >> i personally lost my fear a long time ago. if i was fearful, i wouldn't be out here today. >> reporter: hundreds of people stretching for blocks, march from san mateo city hall to san francisco city hall, making

brief stops at daly city and san bruno city halls. 21 miles and thousands of steps. san mateo county sheriff department and other agencies providing traffic control. >> my feet are in pain. i will probably have blisters, but i feel like it is worth it for the cause. >> i'm very tired, but i think that adrenaline has been kicking in. a lot of these girls have energy. everyone is still chanting. >> reporter: the young organizers remind the public it was the republican party and president ronald reagan who signed the last sweeping immigration reform bill into law back in 1986. they admit it will take a lot more work and pressure for that change under the trump administration. >> i did not expect this many people to come out, but it is empowering. >> reporter: martinez says this is a part of a lengthy journey for change. >> and when it comes to us asking for citizenship, we're asking for basic human rights.

>> reporter: estimated to take about ten hours. this group behind me drove here to welcome the demonstrators. they're expected to arrive some time after 5:00 this evening. >> and in palo alto, people protested outside of a tesla dealership. their focus, elon musk. demonstrators carried signs saying they are upset with musk, saying his involvement to cuts are hurting the government. meanwhile president trump continues to make appearances across the country. today he went to daytona. >> his secretary of state, marco rubio, is in the middle east as they look for ways to end the wars in gaza and ukraine. cbs has the latest. >> reporter: president trump waved to the crowd as he arrived at the daytona 500 nascar race

on sunday. including efforts to bring russia's war on ukraine to a close. >> and we are moving along, we're trying to get a peace deal with russia and ukraine. we're working very hard on it. it's a war that should have never started. >> reporter: two u.s. officials tell cbs news that a delegation, incolluding secretary of state, marco rubio, will take part in discussions this week in saudi arabia. >> what we have right now is a call between putin and president trump, in which both sides expressed an interest in ending this conflict. i imagine there will be follow-up conversations to figure out what a process to talk about that would look like. >> reporter: on sunday, rubio met with israeli prime minister, benjamin netanyahu, in jerusalem. the secretary of state reiterated that hamas cannot remain in power in a post-war gaza. >> as long as it stands, there is a force that could govern and administer or a force that could threaten by use of violence. peace becomes impossible. >> the support of the united states on gaza will help us

achieve these objectives faster and set us on a path for a different future. >> reporter: he wants the u.s. to take control of the palestinian territory with residents leaving for egypt and jordan. an idea both countries have rejected. they are set to meet in cairo focused on the cease-fire agreement. and now for a live look at chase center, where the all-star game will tip off in a moment. it is the main event bringing thousands to the bay area for all-star weekend. but those who didn't have tickets to go inside still were treated to an all-star experience. >> and they showed up. john ramos had a look. >> the all-star game was played in 1961 at boston gardens. it only happened because the celtics owner agreed to cover any losses that the game might incur. it drew 10,000 people and

was considered an instant success. obviously the game has grown a lot since then, and now crowds will show up, even if they don't have a ticket to the game. >> reporter: it was six hours before game time as people are filing into the plaza outside the chase center. she flew all the way from chicago with her friend just to sit outside, hoping to get a glimpse. >> oh no, i like all-star weekend. i come every year to all-star weekend. >> really? >> yeah. >> even if you don't have a ticket? >> even if i don't have a ticket. it's nice. i like the atmosphere. and so it is fine with me. >> reporter: it's amazing how many people will travel great distances to be in the vicinity of the game. ed and cherry fernandez live in bermuda, visiting new york when they flew to san francisco in the hopes of

watching the game. >> and now what? then what? >> exactly. it's exciting even though we're not able to go inside. surround the energy of the people around that will make us happy. >> reporter: they say their country is wild about basketball, so they took seats at the restaurant that created their own custom all-star clothing merch for this game. they were hoping to watch the big screen, but it looks like there is a change in plans. >> and what happened yesterday, a lot of people are. cooing to watch the big screen, but they decided not to display it because they didn't want a big

crowd in the plaza. >> reporter: instead, they would jam into the restaurant to watch the events on the tvs, which made for booming business on saturday night. >> the place was packed, everyone was cheering with the three-point contest and everything. it's been fun, you know. and this is kind of like the adrenaline rush that we all love in that restaurant industry. this is what makes us at the end of the day, right? >> reporter: and some did have tickets. these four fans from new york have traveled to every single all-star game in the last 20 years. >> i'm sorry to all of our wives and girlfriends that we always miss. but the men of the family have chosen this is our comradery, and this is how we get together. >> reporter: and over the last two decades, they have watched as the game turned into a global

phenomenon. >> it's gotten bigger. to spread out throughout the city, the events. things to do and just being here. it's a pleasure at the all-star game. it will be 2055 before they come back to the bay. that's if they could get a ticket. >> and this all-star weekend, oakland rapper, mr. fab, is giving back to his community, unveiling the basketball court. after the clothing line, the teenagers tell us it is exciting to have a place to shoot hoops in the neighborhood. >> it's good, it will bring the community together and seeing all the young kids, where it is

refreshing to see everybody getting outside, you know, bonding over basketball. >> reporter: to celebrate the grand opening, there is a free youth clinic put together by the non-profit hoops bus. and the fire stuff took such a huge emotional toll, just to have this added on top of it. it's terrifying. causing mud slides in southern california communities that are faced with those deadly wildfires in january. we've got the latest on the effort to clean the streets. we will keep a chance on the next rainmaker, which is getting here on wednesday. we will also do a look back. did you get any rain on you today? what the radar looked like this morning as light showers moved across the north bay. we'll put the rain totals on and show you how much we got. then we'll do the same thing for wednesday's system. show you how much we might get from that one. and we're here to talk about a warm up. forecast coming up after the break.

in southern california, storm cleanup continues in sierra madre after it was hit hard by mud slides. this is near the eaton fire burn scar above altadena. some areas are buried in knee deep mud city workers and cal fire. hand crews came to the hillside neighborhood to help. city says its first priority is clearing out main roads. >> i thought we knew what to expect. we would try to be prepared, but this was just way too much.

>> a similar situation. both areas will continue to be on alert for mud slides. >> yeah, they made it how far south, like oakland? >> we didn't get anything measurable. where they will show you the last few hours or so. let's play this backwards. going back to early morning. you see the time there at 4:00, 5:00 a.m.? just so you could see what happens today. the only place we

could put them on the map. barely a hundredth of an inch of rain in martinez, but you can see how it worked out. that was the system that came through here early this morning. a look at how the winds played out today. it's going to get windier. they're fairly manageable. as we get towards wednesday. the cold front will come our way, the impressive clouds of the side sitting in

the pacific. the storm track looks pretty good. when we put them in there, let's show you what that rain looks like now and a pretty good band of rain already lined up out here working their way towards the coast of california. doesn't get here though until wednesday. you'll want to get a look at that and get a little closer. so put that forecast in the monitor here. we're taking a look at wednesday and thursday. you can see the light showers, they're falling through the north bay we the time we would get to wednesday morning and they will work their way across the rest of the bay through the evening, not much there. totals are pretty light with this and only looking at about maybe two tenths of an inch of rain. wouldn't be much that we would get from that. the warmup coming up after that. okay, the first

one is for be san jose. on this one, you'll see the numbers climb to the mid-70s by the time we would get towards saturday and sunday of next week. we are not all going to be quite that warm. let's take a look at a few others here. the numbers are for the inland micro climate. the trivalley, concord, livermore, and these warmups. the rest of the bay in general will be cooler than that. and the east bay shore of san francisco. and they won't make it to 70, but you'll make it to the upper 60s. a little bit of rain on sunday, where they do not look like much and it is a warm up, over to you. >> all right. straight ahead in sports. big shots and the clutch shots, and that is something that i know that you department know about nba all-star weekend. and the future hall of famer is the san francisco giant.
