condition after suffering a prolonged perespiratory crisis today and required high flow oxygen and in a first in his hospital stay blood transfusion. he was in more pain than yesterday but spent much of the day alert, seated in his arm chair. reported earlier he had double pneumonia. he is no stranger here at the hospital. this is his fourth stay here since 2021. two years ago he was admitted for pneumonia. the vatican emphasized pope francis is not out of danger and the prognosis is guarded. that means doctors can't predict if he will get better or worse. >> tonight for the first time in the new administration president

trump is spending the weekend in the nations capital and across the potomac an extraordinary purge at the pentagon. willie james, good evening. >> good evening to you. president trump spoke about his intention for the military during a conservative conference after he fired some of the nations top military leaders. president trump fired four-star general charles brown. trump called brown a fine gentleman and outstanding leader without giving a leader for the dismissal and said he will nominate dan kane to replace general brown. brown is a highly decorated fighter pilot. secretary of defense pete hegseth. >> reporter: secretary of defense pete hegseth said that

brown served with distinction but hegseth has criticized woke ideology. >> you have to fire the chairman of the joint chiefs. anyone involved in any of the dei woke has to go. >> and the navy's top admiral lisa franchetti. the pentagon prepares to fire at least 5,400 probatinary employees next week. >> i signed an order creating the department of government efficiency which is now waging war on government waste, fraud and abuse. the president wants doge leader elon musk to get more aggressive with federal cuts. federal employees have begun receiving e-mails asking for five things they accomplished in the last week.

>> a propaganda video showing two hostages in a car forced to watch the staged release of fellow captives. the men are seen pleading to be freed. cbs has chosen not to show that video. in israel the latest hostage release brought a sense of joy and also mourning. >> it is an agonizing week for israelis after hamas failed to hand over the body of shiri bibas on thursday, eventually sending the remains back overnight. finally shiri bibas has come home. braving miserable weather mourningers lined the streets to pay their respects. today six more hostages were

released by hamas. i have dreamed of the moment so much you have no idea as he embraced his parents. l this is an emotional -- they were at the film festival on october 7 and he had no idea she survived the terror attack until today. relatives waited for the more than 600 palestinians jailed in israel who are due to be freed in exchange for the hostages. i want to fly in the air. i can't wait for him to come home. four more bodies are expected to be handed over by hamas in the coming weeks and that is it. the truce ends.

talks to extend the cease-fire for a second round have not been finalized. hamas wants a complete withdrawal of israeli troops and israel wants the rest of the hostages free, the territory de-militarized and hamas out. >> here in the u.s. tonight three police officers are dead after separate shootings in two states. in york, pennsylvania an officer was shot confronting a gunman who had taken hostages at a hospital. police shot and killed the gunmen. no patients were harmed. in virginia beach, virginia two officers were gunned down there by a driver during a traffic stop and the gunman apparently took his own life. a health warning, cartons of frozen shakes sold to nursing

homes and other institutions are being recalled. 11 deaths reported and people in 21 states have been sickened. the fda says that ozempic and wegovy are no longer in short supply. sounds like it could lead to consumers paying more? >> reporter: it is estimated thousands of americans have used them, made legally by compounding pharmacies, but now the fda is giving them as little as 60 days to stop making them. have you seen the ads everywhere. off brand versions of drugs for weight loss and wegovy. brianna sims lost 100 pounds in two years. many consider glp1 drugs miracle

consumer confidence is down 10% from last month. te lowest in more than a year. consumers are worried about higher prices ahead of new tariffs, despite president trump's campaign pledge to lower prices. but things have not gone ass promised. inflation rising to 3%. up a tick from january and higher than the federal reserve goal of 2%. >> so when folks are worried about prices rising they don't splurge as much. 70% of the gdp is based on consumer spending. when we pull back on the dollars, it has a ripple effect. >> reporter: even walmart predicting lower sales and growth, and for the first time
