of olympic action in rio. right now, team u.s.a. still ahead in the medal count. >> our arizona athletes are among those, making the medals stand in the competition. joining us live now from rio, hi vanessa. >> reporter: hey gang. so great to see you once again, and good evening, arizona. as you mentioned, today has been a big day for team u.s.a., when it comes to men's gymnastics, of involves gilbert's alex nador. i can tell you alex truly gave it his all. it has not been an easy road onto rio. again, not an easy journey, but it all went down inside of that venue you see behind me. i do have to tell you, alex giving it all in the team all around. i'm not going to give away any spoilers, because you're going to want to see all the action during prime time.

he was an offensive lineman for the wildcats. he was also a football star at chandler high school. today, his former high school coach recommended hemmila as a leader on and off the field. >> it's going to be a hard day for us in the locker room, even though our kids have not played with him. >> it's still not clear how hemmila died. he was an only child and leaves and countless friends. shocking information today about a 3-year-old killed in the west valley. the maricopa county sheriff's office, says the boy's 16-year- old brother is the person who killed the child. a 9-year-old was also hurt, but will survive. the teenager is currently being held as a juvenile, but the sheriff says he expects that to change. >>i think it's a very gruesome

high strung. if you tell a regular person that you're going to be four weeks until you're back doing an activity, they'll be back in four weeks. you tell an athlete four weeksness -- four weeks and they want to be back in two. many times they go through crashes. they will be emotionally high. as they're competing, they're injured, and drop to there's a mental, as well as physical recovery. small achievable goals set by therapists can help the mind. >> we're much more aggressive with what we can do. we push the athletes, but i also think we get athletes coming in at a higher performance level. gone are the days of two a day football practice. people train year round now, so they're coming in at a higher fitness level. >> reporter: what about the

rehab all together? >> i always tell patients, remember, you're not the way you were 20 years ago. >> reporter: meaning, don't overdo it. >> number 1 is start slow. we all have this desire to get out there, and go 100% every single time. many of our weekend warriors, for example, they don't train, they don't do anything except for that saturday when they play soccer, or they play basketball for an hour. so i always tell people, start off slow, and listen to your body. >> reporter: that's key, and know thyself. >> if something isn't right in your body, you're going to know it before the therapist will, or the physician, or the physician assistant will. so it's important to speak up. >> i'll tell you what he said about age, is so true. the older you get, the more familiar you get with waking up with a new ache and pain every morning. >> it's so key to really take

effect for numerous counties across arizona. here specifically for the maricopa county, we have a flash flood watch in effect all the way through wednesday at 11:00. we're expecting the heaviest stuff late tomorrow evening into early wednesday. we're not seeing a lot of moisture today. we had some develop here in the southeastern part of arizona. that is all starting to wind down over into the white we're also seeing the isolated storms that were it there earlier, starting to dissipate as well. the state as a whole tonight for the most part will be very quiet. tomorrow, a totally different story. take a look. we've got high numbers on the monsoon meter. 6's for the white mountains. a 4 for the valley, and a 5 in southeast arizona. for tonight, partly cloudy, 79 to 86. tomorrow partly cloudy, and increasing storm chances throughout the day,
