>> for me now it's just being able to -- i think the biggest thing between now and london i was so much more emotional during these games, that showed at times. that's the difference. because i knew this was the last time. i knew this was the last race i ever had and the last olympics i had. and everything just really hit hard. and i guess some of it i guess some people at homwh mean, as soon as i walked into the warm down before that final night, the tears started coming filling up in my eyes and bob and i shared some of those emotional moments with one another. and you know, i was thinking my last warm-up, my last warm-down, last time putting on a suit. my last cold tub, i did all of that. now i question the question is this is last time? >> i have a feeling not. i don't know why. i have a feeling not. you always give me the straight

but what about your personal goals now? what do you want to do as a 31-year-old leaving swimming behind, with a long life ahead. >> this is a part of my life where i get to start this whole new chapter and continuing to build a family with nicole and continue to travel, continue to contribute to the sport of swimming. i want to try to not only in the u.s. but also change the drowning rate we have, something that is a goal of mine. we've been able to teach thousands of kids. i want the numbers higher so. we have a full plate and full schedule of things and i still have those. >> ryan lochte said you've been following on that, luckily he is okay. before the incident with the robbery, he stop bid here, i want to show you what he said. >> i heard what he said. >> you look in the camera and say michael, i'll see you in tokyo.

the headline for when you leave the olympics. your headline was, katie ledecky had fun. tell us how much fun did you have when you were at the olympic games? >> i had a ton of fun. i had my goals in the water but one of those goals was to have fun. i couldn't have asked for a better time with my teammates, see them succeed and the fun outside of the water as well. the best. >> she looked like she was smiling sometimes in the pool when you were swimming. that shot of you and that smile. were you feeling that good when you were racing? >> it's fun to swim fast too. i'm happy with how this week has gone. >> you talk about swimming fast. the 800 you crushed the competition and you beat your own world record by two seconds. after you said something like i just thought i would go for it. makes it sound like you can drop a world record at will s. that the case these days? >> it's never easy to break a

turning to the news, frightening moments for passengers at new york's jfk airport after reports shotted had been fired. police evacuated terminal 8, flights were temporarily grounded. multiple emergency agencies rushed to the scene. in about 45 minutes after that a second terminal, terminal 1, was evacuated. this all started when a woman coming off of a plane said she thought she heard gun fire. and loud celebrations from people watching, yes, the olympics, may have been misinterpreted as a fight and gun shots. things are back to normal there. to politics. major developments in the presidential race. the conservative op-ed page of "the wall street journal" is calling on the republican party to essentially abandon donald trump if the he doesn't change his ways on the campaign trail. hallie jackson with the latest on it.

donald trump is making clear where he stands, tweeting he will not change, that he is who he is, pushing back against any talk of a pivot as his campaign hits back now this morning, against a new report linking his top adviser to russia. this morning, new questions about trump's russia. a "new york times" report linking his top aide to a pro-russian party in ukraine. according to the paper paul manafort name appears, appearing to suggest he was paid $13 million in cash payments, over a 5-year period. the report not verified by nbc news. overnight the clinton camp pouncing, saying in a statement, trump has a responsibility to disclose any adviser's ties to russian or pro kremlin entities. paul man i fort himself responding telling nbc news i have never received a single off the books cash payment as

let's turn to an incident overshadowing some of the celebration here. four american swimmers including ryan lochte held up at gunpoint over the weekend. ryan is opening up about what happened. keir simmons has more on that. good morning to you. >> good morning. ryan lochte was on friday morning within 48 hours he had a gun put to his head. we retraced the rount he took and guys, there are still many questions. where is the taxi driver they were with, why did he pull over. ryan lochte partying just hours before he was robbed at gunpoint. saying overnight, we are safe and unharmed. telling today's billy bush in an exclusive interview the robbers pretended to be police. >> we got pulled over in our taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge. no lights, no nothing.

they pulled us over, they pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground. they got down on the ground. >> forced to the ground, team usa john bens and jimmy fagan who had been celebrating with him. >> i refused. i was like we didn't do anything wrong. so i'm not getting down on the ground and the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and said get down, and i was like i put my hands up like, whatever. he took our money, he took my wallet. >> witnesses say ryan lochte left pub france in the early hours and got in a cab. they bought popcorn outside the club. and looked normal, she says. then heading home. on this route lochte says he and his three teammates were forced off the road.

main street on sunday. nbc's joe kent is in lower lake county for us. good morning. >> good morning. a massive wildfire ripping through downtown along main street burning out residences, cars and businesses taking everything with it and right now we don't know the exact scope of this large fire, but we do know so far 3,000 acres have burned, more than 100 structures have been damaged. no injuries and no fatalities thousands. this is a community that's been lucky and spared in the past. just last year 12 months ago it was spared by two massive wildfires directly next to this town. fast forward and it's not so lucky. this continues to smell of ash. the fire continues to burn. no cause yet on what caused this wildfire. we do know it is 5% contained. looking ahead to this afternoon, the weather could change.
