oath last month accusing him of a political hit job. >> we take a look at six things we've learned from arpyo's testimony. >> reporter: obtained the transcript of the four and a half hour deposition. it came in a federal lawsuit filed by austin flake and austin's wife logan. they accuse the sheriff of abuse of power after the deaths of 21 dogs th arpyo portrays himself as detached from big cases but is still hot on the trail of president obama's birth certificate. he had nothing to do with the 21 felony charges against the couple, he says. i let my detectives make the recommendation. number 2: he's a hands-off sheriff. what about his detectives evidence against the flakes

and bolts, arpyo said. charges were dropped after key evidence about a failed air- conditioning unit in the dogs' kennel was gone. number 3:he says nuts and bolts 15 times, as in i'm not interested in the nuts and bolts of any cases. was it sha? he answered i don't know and i don't remember. all to a wide range of questions. he couldn't even remember his lawyer's name. i've had so many of them, the sheriff said, i'm a little confused. at number 5: and this came out of nowhere, the investigation still lives. president obama's birth certificate is still not legitimate in joe arpyo's mind.

yet. >> there is no update on the birth certificate investigation. the sheriff has confidence in the work of his deputies in the animal crimes unit. a glendale woman facing animal cruelty charges is now telling her side of the story. as we report, the woman claims a lack of police played a role in the deaths of three of her dogs. >> reporter: back in may, perfect home. the person who rented them the house in glendale didn't own it. when the rightful owner found out, he started eviction proceedings. >> i started calling rescues. i did everything to try to get them to go some place to be rescued. >> reporter: she didn't have much luck. county constables showed up at her door, the situation immediately escalated. >> i'm not leaving the dog.

outbreak. >> reporter: they were alarmed at the number of dogs on the property and put out a call for assistance. >> over 35 dogs in the backyard with no shelter, minimal water, and just the conditions were horrendous for the animals. >> reporter: she says none of the dogs in her care were ever mistreated. >> they were doing nothing to they heard them slaughtering each other. they were so hot, so confused. >> reporter: they did respond a short time later to check the welfare of the dogs and assist the humane society. she is prepared to clear her name and see that the police who responded take responsibility for their lack of compassion. >> i'm going to fight the fact that cops can't just do what they want to do. once dogs die or anything and be totally indifferent to the outcome.

charged with 52 counts of animal cruelty. the county attorney's office is reviewing the case. let's look at our hot headlines. a new push to get people registered to vote for the november election. viva the vote campaign kicked off today. their goal is to get 75,000 new voters registered across the state. a guilty plea from the man charged in the oregon standoff. he admitted in court conspired to impede federal officers through the use of force, intimidation, and threats. he faces more than three years in prison. and the search continues for 10-year-old jesse wilson. it's been a month since the buckeye boy disappeared from his home. so far, no sign of the little boy. turning now to the olympics. a big night for some of team

because it? >> you just don't knock somebody out with the head gear on. >> reporter: he boxed with head gear on for his entire amateur career. >> it's going to bounce off the padding and into your brain. i mean, it's the same power. >> reporter: they got rid of head gear in 2013 citing reports they didn't prevent head injuries at all. they think head gears made fights more dangerous by fighters believe they couldn't get hurt. he thinks the international boxing association and the olympic committee jumped the gun. >> what's somewhat disappointing is there was very little research that was done before they actually removed the head gear. >> reporter: he says the point of boxing is to cause a concussion. padded head gear made it a little safer. >> there is data that shows that the head gear reduces the

historic flooding in louisiana is now being blamed for at least seven deaths. torrential rains over the weekend left several cities

rescued, and thousands of homes have been damaged. the red cross is now helping take care of more than 12,000 people who were forced out of their homes. >> volunteers from arizona are among those heading to louisiana to help with the recovery effort. flew out of sky harbor this morning. he's a technology lead with the red cross and will be helping coordinate the disaster relief. >> it's our ability to go in and set up a om and infrastructure. we'll be scans more than one location. >> he expects to be in louisiana for the next few weeks. he will be arriving in louisiana over the next couple of days. still ahead at 6:00, they say no pain, no gain. that can sideline you longer than you may want. why talking about your injuries could help put you back in the game a little bit quicker. coming up in sports, what's

sound off. arizona has some of the best mexican food. how many restaurants make this year's list of top 10 mexican restaurants in the country? according to gyo.com, only one. the elote cafe is the only one to make the list of top 10 restaurants. we've all been there -- a strain or a pulled muscle leaves us really in pain, but we try to push through it and ignore it. >> in tonight's medicine of the games, doctors say an open line of communication can help the healing and get you back in the action. keeping quiet about an injury is nothing new for athletes. >> it's a huge pressure for them. winning is so important for coaches and for athletes. >> reporter: but more and more,

problem is being made worse because an injured athlete waits too long to say something. >> it's a very difficult for thing for them to deal with it. they don't want to be hurt. they need to really get out to somebody. >> reporter: that's where communication are key. doctors at mayo clinic say parents should be watching their kids and asking questions. lingering soreness or an injury that just won't heco signs of something more serious. the athlete may be too worried about being pulled from the sport to say anything. >> they want to be on the field, they want to perform so they push the envelope on what their body can take. some of that is too much. something could have been a week out or a couple of days off ends up being a long- lasting injury where it may require surgery. >> reporter: coaches and trainers are on the front line, but open lines of communication

difference. >> i know those athletes, especially the pros, you know, it's their livelihood. >> there's a lot riding on that. >> for the every day weekend warriors, it's important to audiocassette talk about that. we tallied in another 110- degree day. we're increasing that number more and more every day. in fact, we're getti the record. let's take a look at today's almanac. the record for today was set in 2015. we're now at 29 days. that puts us third in the ranking for the most 110 plus degree days for phoenix. that's 2016. the all-time record was in 2011 when we had 33 days. we are not all that far away from that number.

we're looking at high temperatures ranging 105-110. we have issues with ozone as well. an ozone high pollution advisory in effect. it's driving those thunderstorms down to the south, but they're kind of fizzling out. up in the high country a bit further to the north, flagstaff, you're quiet. off to the west, we have a few showers. nothing major right now. across the valley, ok we have had some recent activity in the mountains, but the bottom line is we're limited in moisture right now. ones on the monsoon meter from phoenix to tuscon. storm chances in the high country for the time being. through the weekend, those temperatures come sliding down just a bit. that's your weather and now here's coop with sports.

>> 100% business trip. >> reporter: the cardinals arriving this afternoon ready for joint practices with the chargers. >> i think it's good. obviously this team doesn't condone fighting. it will be fun to go somewhere and go up against some new receivers to get us ready for the season. >> reporter: they hit the practice field tomorrow evening for the first of two joint practices together. that is open to the public. hit the town here in san diego. with the cardinals for 12 sports. >> he gets the tough assignments, doesn't he? catch phrases. most everyone has one. mine is i tell you what or it's an outrage. as we introduce you to the 2016 asu football players, we thought it would be appropriate to learn some of their favorite catch phrases.

i'm no marketing guru... but this guy is. he's from madison avenue. he likes to say things like... raised without antibiotics. that's a phrase he invented to make chicken sound safer. and it doesn't mean much because, by federal law, all chickens must be clear of antibiotics before they leave the farm. i've got more. "mom approved?" "caffeine free?" we think mr. marketing guru would fit in better at a different chicken company.
