your help. nico is live. >> reporter: these are 2 of many of the cases that silent witnesses working to solve here, the first case, the victim only 19 years old. it happened at the desert sky mall thomas road and 76th avenue, last month. check out the video, you can see the security footage, the suspect walking nonchalant, checks surroundings as he walks out of frame and you can see him running, the crime is not caught on camera but you are seeing he snapathize necklace off-- snaps the necklace off the woman's neck and runs off. we don't recommend this, the woman ran after him. he had a get away driver waiting for him, now he and the victim's necklace, no where to be found, and he sped off in a gray chrysler pt cruiser, the 2nd case involves another senseless death in phoenix last month. this is fernando chavez, he was only 25 years old at the time of

death on july 15th. they found his body about 11:30 that same night in the parking lot of the knight's inn motel along i-17, north of mcdowal road. detectives have little to work with, there is no suspect description, they are having trouble with this one. if you have any information about either of these cases call 480-witness, you will remain anonymous, no personal information is exchanged. you would qualify for up to $1,000 in s information that leads to an arrest. 12 news. >> thanks. here is a look at today's hot headlines, one person was killed in an officer-involved shooting in phoenix 3:00 this morning around 59th and thomas. a woman called police saying a man was in her apartment with a gun and on drugs. officers sent in the k-9 who chased the suspect out of the apartment. that is when police say the suspect got into a shoot out with an officer which ended with him shot and killed.

near 44th and campbell this afternoon. firefighters say flames ignited in the attic of a condo that was connected to 6 other units. the fire damaged 2 of those units but crews were able to keep it from spreading beyond that. no one was hurt. hope solo is taking the lead from soccer, less than a week from suspended from u.s. sock frr 6 months, the goalie was suspended after she called the swedish team cowards after she has been playing for the seattle rain, today the team announced she has been granted personal leave. in houston this weekend, the 3rd pre-season game, the team is hoping to be back there next year for the super bowl. this trip sort of a little preview for our cardinals and cameron cox. >> reporter: the cardinals and texans play tomorrow, the third and most important pre-season

murder of 2 nuns in mississippi. authorities arrested and charged 46-year-old rodney earl sanders with 2 counts of murder in the death of sister margaret and sister paula, their bodies were found thursday after they didn't show up for work at a clinic, about 10 miles from where they lived. there is about 2 months to go until november's presidential election, in the latest survey of voters, hillary clinton leading donald trump. according to the university poll, clinton is ahead, 60% of people surveyed say clinen believes she doesn't-- clinton believes she doesn't have to play by the same rules as everyone else. and 74% say trump should release tax returns. 12 news is gearing up for next week's arizona primary, we will have up-to-the minute results until the polls closed until the last race is called. our national parks

today with a trip down south. tucked along arizona's southern border is a unique preserve known for its beauty and signature cacti. william pitts takes us to organ pipe national monument. >> one of the ideas was to take a pristine example of what the desert should be. >> reporter: virtually untouched, arizona's desert at its finest. >> trying to keep the desert as it was, visitor use and enjoyment. so because of that, there is a lot of options to really kind of get out into the wild of the desert here. >> reporter: one of those options, the scenic aho mountain drive. >> dozens of miles of scenic roads into the mountains, the desert plattes. the 21-mile, 1-way dirt road will wind and dip taking you to various must-see stops, the cruise takes 2 hours to complete.

the nfl draft. thousands of people welcomeed home olympic gold medalist laurie hernandez in her home town of new jersey today. a parade was held for the 16-year-old olympian and a celebration continued at a middle school football field. hernandez was the youngest member of the 5-person u.s. women gymnastic olympic team. >> studied and watched gymnasts as i was growing up. definitely being a little girl and looking up really move forward with my gymnastics and it is nice to know that i have little girls looking up to me as i did back then. >> any time i watch them, she is like 16, doing all thiz amazing stuff. -- this amazing stuff. i can't get to the gym. >> i could drive, i was happy with that. >> you heard her in the stands cheering for gabby every time. a big cheerleader, just exciting to see how your teammates are behind you. >> it is hard, people think
