coming up it is "sunday night football" preseason, cincinna jaguars. at the top of the hour, we will see you then. peyton manning was not going to end his nfl career with a loss in super bowl 4. and no camera crew had to spend any more off-seasons with him to learn how he would prepare to
9:22 pm
if you spent one off-season with hip, you pretty much spent every off-season with him. peyton any persistence paid off with a second super bowl title. >> the denver broncos are world champions. >> it marked the end of a remarkable 118-year career and four seasons in denver. >> when i visited denver four years age if john elway sat me done and said peyton here i we are going to win over 50 games. win four straight division championships. we will meet the patriots in two championship games. you are going to win nfl comeback player of the year. another mvp. offense will set single season passing records. >> a record setting performance. his 51st touchdown pass. peyton manning, the most passing yards for the single season nfl record. >> a couple more all-time
9:23 pm
touchdown passes than any other player in nfl history. peyton manning has the most passing yards in nfl history. >> we'll go to a couple of superbowls. i think i would have taken that deal. >> when some one thoroughly exhausts an experience they can't help but revere it. i revere football. i love the game. so you don't have to wonder if i will miss it. absolutely. absolutely. i will. our children are small now, but as they grow up, we are going to teach them to enjoy the little things in life. because one day they will look back and discover that those really were the big things. so here the seemingly little things when i look in my rearview mirror have grown much
9:24 pm
blitzes, reggie sitting on the bench next to me, and perfecting a fake handoff to edgerrin james. i will miss demarous thomas telling me that he loved me. thanking me for coming to denver after every touchdown i threw to him. miss a play by tom moore that end in a touchdown. afterward, miss recapping the game with my dad. checking to see if the giants won, and calling i miss that handshake with tom brady. i miss playing before so many great fans. both at home and on the road. and i will even miss the patriots' fans in foxboro. and they should miss me. because they sure did get a lot of wins off of me. and this is important. football fans everywhere, need to know how much they have meant to me over the years. fans, you were at the core of
9:25 pm
>> okay, thank you. thank you. >> wow. ha-ha-ha. >> cool, thanks, buddy. >> all right, bro. >> who is your favorite football player? >> my dad. >> your dad your favorite football play tear? >> you're on the right track. >> football taught me not to be led by obstruction and set backs. but instead to be led by dreams. due to good genes i am smart enough to know that those lessons can enrich who i am and where i go i'm totally convinced that the end of my football career is just the beginning of something i haven't seen discovered yet. ?? ?? pundits will speculate that my effort and drive over the past 1 years were about mastery, and about working to master every aspect of the nfl game. well, don't believe them. because every moment, every drop of sweat, every bleary eyed night of preparation, every note i took and every frame of film i

reverence for this game. i look back on my nfl career, i will know without a doubt i gave everything i had to help my team walk away with a win. there were other players who were more talented but no one could outprepare me. and because of that, i have no regrets. there is a scripture reading, i have fought the good fight and i have finished the race i have kept the faith. well, i have fought a good fight. i have finished my football race. and after 18 years, it's time. god bless all of you. and god bless football.

. statistics look good. but you don't win the games turn the ball over. >> you have to play the game and then you know where you're at. >> we played them in preseason. who takes the third game in the preseason so did we find out who the cardinals are today? that's what we'll talk about to fight on 1 sport tonight. i'm bruce cooper joined by jay taylor and cameron cox on the field in houston. the cardinals offense looked a little shakey at times today against the texans. carson palmer on the first series is intercepted right here.
9:29 pm
next drive, david johnson capping it off with the end zone touchdown run. david johnson is looking like a beast out there. second one, carson palmer is intercepted again. did you see the hit to the head? the helmet comes flying off. they're down 17-#. carson is looking a little woozy at bruce aryans is like what's going on, man? cardinals lose 34-24. afterward, bruce arians and company didn't seem concerned. the first team offense has not done anything to make me feel like we're not where we need to be other than turn the ball over. that been a problem each of the
9:30 pm
it just has to get corrected. had some nice drive, a lot of yardage. all of the statistics look good but you don't win games turn the ball over. all right, jay, i'm going to start with you. cardinals 0-3 in preseason. should we be concern instead. >> i think they should be a little bit concerned. when you're an offense like the cardinals you should be more crisp in we're not really seeing that. i think it stands out more with the interceptions. look at that first one. even if that ball didn't get tipped you can't float it over the middle. these are thing, offensively, that really concern me. defensively, i think the secondary, there are so many new pieces back there, the rush is still not getting there
9:31 pm
rush time to get there or the rush gets there to help the secondary and right now we're not leading to either or. right now they have to blitz us and if they do we can get them man to man, take advantage and throw opposite of peterson. >> before we bring cam into this, what do you like of the cardinals in. >> i like the running game. i think they've done good establishing that. if you're good at the run that's goin eight men in a box. when you do that you get the one on one match-ups. defensively i like the hustle they're playing with. they're coming with fire. since the game tackleing, that's always been an strength for them. it's going to take more. cardinals are good against the run. it's stopping the pass that leads to the victories. >> cam, let's bring you in to
9:32 pm
games. this one is the dress rehearsal that sets you up for the season. as bad as they were today can they turn it on september 11th against the new england patriots in. from listening to them in the locker room and talking to bruce arians, they no doubt and turn the switch on. they were calm, cool and elective in the locker room. no one was worried. turnovers. jay talked about it, carson palmer just can't throw some of those passes. he knows he has to get in some better throwing lanes. bruce arians said the other interceptions by stanton and barkley were inaccuracies. they have reps, practice and games, but they feel confident
9:33 pm
palmer take the hit to the head. just chipped his tooth. this offense definitely needs to get it going moving forward, coop this. is the last time we've seen carson and others until week one. you talked about the chipped tooth. any other injuries? mike jenkins was carted off the field. >> that's a knee injury. whatsoever, coop. it looked like his leg got caught in the turf. he slammed his fist, the one with the cast on, on to the cart when he was being wheeled off. i believe he had tears in his eyes too. it did not look good for jenkins. patrick peterson was expected to play more but then he went down. that's a shame.
9:34 pm
injury. no word yet on how severe that was. we expected to see tyran mathieu today but he did not play. i wouldn't expect to see fitz until week one or two. patrick peterson did not play to day. he sprained his ankle on the last practice. they didn't want to mess with go ahead decision. >> cam, stay tight. i'm coming back to jay. to follow-up on jenkin, that looked like acl. when you have a guy like mathieu, he has not played all season and probably not playing thursday, can you just miss the entire camp and step on day one
9:35 pm
>> you can but you'll be rusty. i think that's what the cardinals have to take a look at. i think they should give him a couple snaps in that thursday game. mentally i think he's a senator player. he'll understand what he needs to do. it's a matter of getting timing and the speed factor down. when you practice with your guys you get that down. if i'm want to give you two snaps on thursday. come the regular season game maybe bring him off the bench, just get him acclimated to the game and maybe put him in during second half. im's a 16 week season. >> cam, back to you. obviously we have not seen john
9:36 pm
if you want to talk about him go ahead. he's been doing it. >> he has like glue hands. when he catches the ball it just stix. i think he has some of the best hands on this team. david johnson is just an absolute beast. every player in the locker room talked about him. the scoring was mostly david johnson. i thought for the first time this preseason, looked good. the new guys on the offensive line, dj evan, they were perfectly in sync. they were talking during game and you kept hear the texan fans saying i got you on my fantasy team. i think that's a smart decision to have him on your fantasy team. >> no doubt about it. i have him on mine. good job up there cam.
9:37 pm
friend. jay, you get the final word. >> basically, bottom line, cardinals fan, hold your breath. i know they started out strong last season. just as long as there are no injury, that's the bottom line. get ready for week one. >> thank you my friend. >> yeah, we all remember the aaron rodgers relaxed moment. did carson palmer have that same type of that story in a moment >> reporter: the sun devils closer to naming starting quarterback for the season opener? we'll talk asu football coming up and sound bytes taken out of context. >> obviously.
9:38 pm
>> i have to ask, do you get tired? >> yes, sir. >> it's awesome. i don't want to speak on that too much. eat 'em up. a will the of explosive plays. >> a lot of the interceptions. obviously, a lot of covered sacks. a lot of big runs and passes. a lot of special team, touchdowns, a lot of everything. >> it's boring. >> good question. ---sorry, what's the question? >> don't look in my eyes. no substitute for experience. i feel my body and i know how things are. >> he has pretty eyes. >> we're excited that's exciting. >> that's exciting. we're excited. we're pumped. >> ding, ding, ding, ding.
9:39 pm
>> we need a super model. obviously he's learning but not ready. >> you ask thad question and we're not. my brain process as little bit faster. >> i don't know. >> hell no. >> tell me about it. >> i don't know what happened.
9:40 pm
put your finger to good use.
9:41 pm
9:42 pm
. >> let's get become to the arizona card falks preseason play in houston this afternoon. carson palmer had a pass and a chipped tooth. on his first series in houston, pass intercepted, texans cash in and 2nd quarter guess what? another palm aerospaces tipped three interceptions in his last two preseason games. is there need to sound the alarm? cameron cox is on the sideline and has more. >> >>: coop, i'm going to say this. thank goodness it was a preseason game. five turnovers, bring the
9:43 pm
says this team is regular season ready. we've run the ball effectively, tight coverage and what we've done in practice and throughout camp is improve. you don't always see that in a series and a couple preseason games. i'm excited about where we are and looking to improve as we go on. >> palmer threw to picks and we ho s he said he has to find a better throwing lane. scary moment on the second interception. palmer took a vicious hit to the head. his afternoon was done after that. >> he's fine. just caught a weird spot on my head. he feels fine but he chipped a tooth. does that hurt? >> no, i just have to smile like this. >> does it make you tougher? >> no.
9:44 pm
credit right now. >> don't expect to see palmer or other starters playing the final preseason game. i'm concerned about some of their struggles but cleaning up turn overs is a must before september 11th. in houston with the card falk, cameron cox. >> the cardinals keep telling us they're okay. robert nkemdiche's debut, what all right, let's talk more quarterbacks but this time let's move to the situation at asu. he had coach todd graham has not announced who the starting quarterback will be and we're two weeks away. number five, sophomore manny wilkins. oh, yeah, he bad lip wants to be the man under center for
9:45 pm
brady wyatt. you bet cha. he dreams about it. >> it means a lot if you get named starter and you want to take advantage of every opportunity. that's what the practices and scrimmages are about. >> chip lindsey is the new offensive coordinator and also the quarterbacks coach. i asked him to give office scouting report on manning and ad experienced guy. people chuckle when i say that but he s.i like what manny brings. he's athletic, throws the ball well. i think he's a true quarterback and he's please continuing to improve on his knowledge and the offense. i like what he brings to the table from the leadership standpoint. when you talk about brady, i think he was a polished
9:46 pm
he's athletic to an extent too. we're excited about both. what kind of quarterback best fits his style or philosophy? running quarterback or passing quarterback? i don't think either one is the one i'd say i want this guy or that one. i want the best leader, the guy that takes care of the ball better and then we have to build the offense around that skill set. we want to build around the play mars that's our goal. >> i'm somebody who gets the other guys going. put the ball in their hand zblewski and let them do what they do. i'm confident with the people around me. i feel well rounded. i can use my legs when i need to. i'm not going to be michael vick out there but i'm extremely dedicated and hard working.
9:47 pm
and busting my butt. >> bottom line who will it briana? manny or brady? the coaches and players know but we have to guess. we'll know on sat when the devils kickoff the season against the nau lumber jacks. so too do the arizona wildcats. they kickoff here in the valley. they're on the westside while devils are on the team 12's robbie baker has more. we will be soon. one week from tonight arizona and az state kickoff their seasons less than 30 miles apart. the wildcats facing byu at the university of phoenix stadium and asu.

9:49 pm
jackson. >> you're looking at a team and trying to find identity and we have a lot of guys that can run the bases and people not paying attention and when you have a lineup like that it puts the pressure on the team you're playing. you saw that tonight. >> we all know how valuable pollack is to the diamondbacks times but this is there are questions but not one pollack is willing to entertain. >> as soon as i started playing i reflected on what i've been through and the guys that went through it with me, sheridan, our trainers, my wife. it's awesome. again to play the game i love again and not thinking about my
9:50 pm
it was pretty smooth. honestly, we hit every check point. i think the timeline thing wu the one that was a little frustrating. it went so well and it just was slow. i think at the beginning of the year everybody was sage i was out for the whole season, not coming back, not coming back. for me, i didn't think for a second that i wasn't going to play this year. when you talk about last year before the injury even arm was sore. we'd give him days just to rest them and he has not talked about that coming back from surge i.all of the days put into rehab were there strictly by the training staff. i asked him, probably two out of three this weekend and he said i can play them all. >> we all expected him to be back before the season was over
9:51 pm
the firstdy, nothing i wouldn't expect out of him. that's why he's a mentally successful player. now he's back and hopefully he'll come out and play well and we'll get the win. >> if i'm ready to play baseball, we have a lot of really, really smart people, smart than the guys on twitter, who are make the calls on these things. if then i feel like i'm not just telling people i'm ready to go. you know, i know how things feel and how i've hit every check point. i feel great. for $1.49. ced coffee
