is retall retaliating against him. she reached into the cabinet and took out a knife. team 12 bringing you stories that matter. 12 news at 10:00 starts right now. first we have breaking news, two cities in panic right now after several cops have been shot. these are aerial out of philadelphia where they are reporting a police sergeant and a male university of pennsylvania officer were both shot. at least one suspect was taken into custody, but the continues for other possible suspects. some officers were seen searching hopes -- homes. a civilian was also shot. in texas, forth worth police say two officers were shot while responding to a shooting call. one is in critical condition. the other has minor injuries. it happened when they tracked a suspect down. one officer was struck several times in the upper body and was

the chest but may have been protected by his vest. the condition of the suspect is unknown. you know, being a police officer brings dangers? >> that's true. just this week, here in arizona, a man intentionally slammed his car into three phoenix police officers. >> even after the attack, the officers immediately tried to control the scene without pulling the trigger. could this be the result of special training our cops are going through here in the valley kevin ken kennedy takes a look. >> reporter: it is a fast paced adrenaline driven, high tres occupation. police live on the edge, training their guard. >> the more they control their emotions, the more they'll control the scene. >> reporter: how it's handled can be.

my background. >> reporter: using a gun is still part of policing, but phoenix police are taking aim at what is done before firing. kevin kennedy, 12 news at 10:00. 12 news tracking to more breaking stories. first, a one yard girl is recovering after falling from a one-story building. police say the child was awake and crying when they got on the scene. it's not clear how she fell as of now, no charges leads to gun fire. according to authorities, someone shot a man in the stomach at the hide away bar after a fight broke out on the patio. we're told emergency cruise found the victim conscious when they showed up. he's in serious but stable condition. our other big story, attorneys say dps is reviewing the people who helped construct his alibi. he was the one time accused of

have not been refiled. but he has filed his own lawsuit and his attorneys think that's why dps is coming back at him. team 12 is live along the i-10 with more. >> reporter: the freeway shooter case is still unsolved and no one else has been charged since leslie merritt. they were dropped. now, his family says dps is par asking -- harassing his friends and family. from jail, not charged with suspect list, leslie merritt junior filed a lawsuit against the department of public safety for wrongful arrest, a day later, his lawyer says investigators were knocking on witnesses doors for more interviews. >> was it coincident that we had just served the civil lawsuit? well, we actually see it more as retaliation. >> reporter: retaliation the attorney says for the case falling apart. dps having no other suspects. these witnesses haven't even been looked at in months and

decide to go back and reinterview them ? >> i have not shot my gun in over two months. >> reporter: interviews like these done at the start of the investigation. dps is making another run at the witnesses. >> how is that possible? i have not fired my weapon. >> the ballistic tests don't lie. >> reporter: they were part of the reason the case fell apart. the test living his gun to the shootings and others said they didn't. dps is only giving f their lawsuit? >> they had a theory, one they won't walk away from even though countless expert witnesses have dis proven. they just don't want to admit that, hey, maybe our theory isn't right after all. a former scoots dale high school teacher and track coach accused of having a sexual

student. he will spend ten years behind bars. the 37-year-old was sentenced today. he was arrested last december but released pending trial and ordered to wear an ankle bracelet and not have contact with the under age girl. but police say he did and they booked him back into jail. take a look at this. officials say a 16-year-old tried to smuggle drugs inside an x box near the nogales border. a dog sniffed it out, alerting agents to more than 3 meth inside the gaming console. it was valued at nearly 10 grand. president barack obama was born in the united states, period. >> now to decision 2016, donald trump denouncing the always birther theory that the president was not born in the united states. >> trump is saying he's the one to end it and contrary to the evidence, he blamed hillary

arpaio's investigation. just two months ago, arpaio said in a court deposition his birther case was still alive. he rebeated that claim today -- repeated that claim today. ? >> it's created outrage tonight. investigative reporter tom meyer has the story. >> reporter: you're watching an unusual sight, exclusive video of a police motorcade rolling through the neighborhood. a criminal investigation spearheaded by the prosecutor has brought police to a mansion owned by a businessman he's the son of an iranian prince. armed with a search warrant, they seized boxes of records and computers looking for evidence of theft and fraud. in the 7 page affidavit, investigators say he collected medicaid benefits. they also say he received an average of 3s00 a month in food stamps for about two years
