authorities telling 12 news that 2 of the workers have serious injuries. the church's pastor is remaining hopeful. >> we're just praying for the people here today. that's who we care about most right now is all those workers. >> right now, still no word on what caused the collapse. also developing, we are now seeing the five-month of old baby boy who died after being left inside of a hot car in a peoria apartment complex. tonight his mom's coworkers have started an online fund raising page to help the family. it comes as the couple accused 06 leaving accused -- of leaving israel in the car go before a judge. 18-year-old jose garcia jr., the child's uncle, and his 23-year-old girlfriend, monique avila are facing child abuse chashgs. police think israel was inside the car for about 4 hours.

alert sent we are the details. joe. >> mark, we've seen versions of this program and other law enforcement agencies around the country, and, now, it appears it's here. sheriff joe arpaio announcing the juvenile driver's program today in a news conference alongside her mom and daughter. the girl, olivia harris was recently stopped for speeding and given a warning by the deputy. the girl's mother said she appreciates the fact the sheriff's office communicated to her by sending a letter to notify her about her daughter's speed warning. the mother also praising the traffic stop. >> the way that the deputy handled it from start to finish, i was impressed by that, and i think it made a difference. >> office has sent out 208 letters since the test pilot program began in march. live in the live alert center, joe dana, 12 news. we have two big stories tonight coming out of the sports world.

will carson palmer play on thursday after hitting his head hard on the ground during yesterday's cardinals game? but first, the d-backs firing the team's vp and general manager. i'm talking about dave stewart, along with manager tim hale. team 12, of course, all over both of these stories, and coop is joining us right now. coop, not really a shocker, what we saw today. d-backs cleaning house after, i guess, what could be classified as a horrible season. >> that's putting it mildly for you know, absolutely, after a very disappointing season, one that failed to even come close to meeting the excitement and lofty expectations, the diamondbacks waste little time cleaning house, parting ways with, like you said, general manager dave stewart and chip hale both hired by hall of famer, whose status with the diamondbacks is still up in the air. >> tony is an icon of the game. the results so far don't make him any less of an icon. he's in a different position

it was one that he was aggressively interested in. he's a highly-competitive guy. i think he's given it everything that he could give it. i think we owe it to tony to continue to talk about how we might be able to go forward together, and we're going to continue to -- you know, we're going to continue to have those talks. >> and team owner ken kendrick added that larussa is not a candidate to manage t diamondbacks. my guess is larussa will be offered a job with very little authority. i then expect larussa to step aside and sever ties, thereby saving the diamondbacks the im -- embarrassment after firing their hall of famer. there's even more drama awe cross town. everybody wants to know now, what is the deal with carson palmer. coop, what's going on? >> will he play or won't he play? last night, it looked and sounded all the world like there

today brought new hope and optimism. the cardinals back to work less than 24 hours after losing to the rams. kafrson -- carson palmer did not practice, meaning right now drew stanton is the starter for thursday's game. palmer is still going through the league mandated concussion protocol. last night, if palmer didn't practice this week, he wouldn't play thursday. today, he changed his tune. >> no, he doesn't -- he don't it's not like they're doing something he hasn't seen before. he'd be more than ready to go. >> for those of us that are a part of this media or locker room or organization know how tough carson palmer is. if he can play, he's going to find a way to play. you respect that about them. i also give him his space because i'm not going to sit there over his shoulder pestering him. i have to do my due diligence to get ready as well. in other injury moves, defensive lineman was back at practice today after missing the

it's 6:12. here are three more of tonight's had the headlines. frms up first, an investigation is n a trash facility find a dead body. sky 12 over that area near 21st avenue and deer valley road right off. phoenix police trying to figure out who this person is and how they died. a lot of questions after an electrician gets electrocuted while working on a building near 75th avenue and buckeye. phoenix fire stel tells 12 news a live electrical circuit somehow shocked the man. investigators say it's an accident but aren't saying exactly how it happened.

state capitol dome which shortly gets dark over here and bathed in purple light as the state marks the start of domestic violence. governor ducey will be on hand for the lighting ceremony, the state trying to lower people suffering from domestic abuse and also support victims. developing now, a scary and dangerous storm barrelling towards several islands in the caribbean. the threat of an east coast strike is increasing as a valley couple tries to flee before the storm strikes. frz and money saving money. raiding your kid's college fund could be a costly mistake in

right now, hurricane matthew is closing in on a catastrophic collision in the caribbean. the monster category 4 targeting jamaica where the outer bands are already dropping rain and kicking up winds. matthew also has haiti in its cross hairs. frms nasa catching images of this massive storm from space. at least one person has already died in haiti from the rough waters just ahead of the storm. and tonight, the hurricane center is warning that the long-range threat for florida and the southeastern u.s. is on the rise. >> absolutely. and caribe,needless to say, this

we'll take you to the graphics and show you how strong this storm is right now. it is a category 4 hurricane right now with winds of 140 miles an hour. it is, right now, moving up to the northeast. so on that path, it'll be clipping there, the western portion of haiti, then as it progresses northward, the eastern coast there of cuba, and then it'll start to veer to the north and west, moving through the bahamas as a category 4 hurricane, and then there, you can see it by friday, just off the coast there of florida, and category 3. so still, there is not very much certainty as to where that will go for the u.s., but, again, it's getting very close. we'll update you as we get a little bit closer to that. >> absolutely. frms meanwhile, newlyweds from tempe are stuck in the middle of all of that. dustin and his wife shelby stranded in jamaica. the airline canceling their flight back to the valley so, now, they have to ride out their honeymoon storm from their hotel in montego bay. so far, they say it has been

texas cities topping the list. lehigh acres in florida coming in 3 rdz and kent in washington state coming in 4th. well, it is money-saving monday tonight. the dangers of raiding your child's college fund. a survey finds nearly half of parents stashing money away for their college education of their kids. they have raided those accounts. many of them do it apparently do go on vacation or maybe to help pay off a wedding. f don't think there are penalties to tapping into these funds early, but in the end, you will likely have to pay taxes on that money. frms well, after a soggy sunday, we had a pretty nice day here in the valley. 86 degrees. so cooler than we would expect for this time of year. 94 is typically where we're at. 105 is today's record high temperature. here is a look at cameras across northern arizona. it's a pretty nice day up there, as well. we've seen some high clouds, but

day all across arizona. so that storm system that moved in over the weekend brought us all that rain on sunday, that has now pushed off to the north. you can see it here from bismark stretching all the way down into the central plains. we are seeing pretty strong thunderstorms. then on the backside of that, it's more of a wintry system. wyoming, monotan that, expecting to see significant snowfall totals in the higher elevations. all of that is going to help to keep our temperatures on the cooler side here over the next couple of days as we're under the influence there of that trough. by the end of the week, we see high pressure build in, and then that will kick in those 90-degree temperatures. so enjoy the next couple of days while they last. 55 to 62, those are your overnight temperatures tonight. tomorrow, 80 to 85. lots of sunshine, and those winds coming out of the southwest. sun is up tomorrow at 6:25. so we stay in the 80s until thursday, then we kick it into the 90s by friday. coop. >> 12 sports is sponsored by
