congresswoman anchor patrick who were critical of nelson's hierg met with her today. kirkpatrick said in a statement she left feeling better than when she walked in. mechanic -- kirkpatrick trying to oust mccain from a senate seat. meanwhile, bad news for cardinals fans, and i'll tell you why right there. carson palmer is out for tomorrow's 49ers. #k507 49er -- coop with the scoop right here. coop, again, this is all about that injury that he suffered over the weekend. better safe than sorry? >> i'd say so. no doubt about it. we all saw it, palmer's helmet slamming hard into a ground after a sack in the 4th quarter of sunday's loss to the rams. palmer left the field with a concussion chl he did not return and has since been going through the league mandated concussion protocol. today, palmer was officially ruled out for thursday's game.

san francisco this afternoon. our cameron is in san francisco with the cardinals and has more. >> coop, good evening. it's a sight you must see when you come to the bay area, the golden gate bridge. it truly doesn't get any better than that. but for cardinal fans, the one sight they better get used to seeing on this trip is drew stanton. there social security, tevi's stadium, site of tomorrow's game. carson palmer, of course, department make the trip, still not clear to play after suffering that concussion last the cardinals. only one win here since 2008. that game last year. but the good news, having stanton start doesn't change the game plan. >> he has a great understanding of the system. he knows the system better than anybody because he's been in it the longest. so nothing is going to change. we are going to still -- we are still going to take our shots, and, you know, he can -- he has full command of the offense. >> i felt good about how i prepared and trust in the process. talks so much about it. i think that's been our battle

no one did. >> what pence said. you know, we need to make america stronger. a lot of the stuff that hilary focuses on is stuff outside of us americans, and i think we need a president that's going to focus on americans first, and i think that him talking about uniting and building unity, you know, within our own communities is very important right now. we're in a pretty big -- i would say kind of aiv because i typically -- i personally believe that donald trump really wants or his goal is to actually help minorities by different school choices, by economic development such as jobs and things of that sort. i think he's the candidate for -- for minorities. >> i would love to know why you feel that. >> well, he has a track record of doing those things, therefore, i can look at his

store. city leaders have agreed to provide more than $18 million in financial support, construction expected to begin by april of 2018. frms a kingman police detective shot while serving a search warrant is now out of the hospital. detective dennis gilbert was met by a big crowd as he was released today. detective gilbert had to undergo surgery after last week's shooting. he will continue to recover at home. family and friends of former arizona governor rose planned hold a public memorial in celebration later this month. it will be held at phoenix's theater on october 30th at 1:30 in the afternoon. mofford was arizona's first woman governor. she passed away last month at the age of 94. still ahead on 12 news at 6:00, hurricane matthew now headed towards florida after tearing through the caribbean. the latest on the damage caused by this massive storm. plus, we have the answer to today's social soundoff.

it is time now for today's social soundoff. so there are plenty of spectacular sites to see all across arizona. we know that. but which one is making the list of awesome aerial views in all 50 states? >> it may surprise you, it's not the grand canyon, which is what we all thought. reviews from on top of camelback mountain actually made the list the web site recommends you make the 2700 foot climb up one of the four trails for the incredible views of the valley. turning now to the powerful storm on track to hit the east coast. hurricane matthew already hit the caribbean killing 11 people and destroying thousands of homes. the system could reach florida and the carolinas by the end of this week. hundreds of thousands of people along the lower east coast are being urged to leave homes.

hurricane matthew. >> this isn't the first time the island nation has seen similar destruction. one flagstaff organization is no stranger to providing relief. >> trisha shows us some of the experiences and challenges they have faced. >> make no mistake, it's not an easy job. >> i've been in surgeries where the lights go out, we lose power. somebody runs and grabs my head lamp, and i'll operate under a head lamp until they can get a generator started. >> its war torn roots are equally intense. >> twoee mission working in kuwait and then iraq and refugee camp. >> northern arizona volunteer medical corps is group of doctors and surgeons who provide medical assistance to haitian residents. the work they do is invaluable to those people. >> she would have lost her arm if we hadn't been there. because we were there with a team that could put it together, we saved her arm. to watch that family, it's amazing. >> but the work is not without

we're not used to having patients die. >> for john durham, he has a personal connection. >> in fact, i have a adopted a little girl from the orphanage. we have a little girl who is 7-and-a-half -- 7 years old and has been with us for 2-and-a-half years. so i now have that connection to haiti. >> as hurricane matthew continues to wreak havoc in the caribbean, it same mri stands as haiti is never done. >> i know that i'll be back because there's so much to be done and so much need in haiti. >> some really, really good people are trying to help those folks. >> yeah, they do. frms well, here locally, we're keeping an eye on -- >> did you see this? >> yeah. i was going to say. we are keeping an eye on what's going on obviously with hurricane matthew, but we are

valley. of course, those high clouds always make for really nice sunsets out there. so if you get some pictures of the sunset this evening, make sure to post them up on our 12 news facebook page. we'll try to use some of those a little bit later on tonight at 10:00. so, now, back to what's happening with hurricane matthew. it is a category 3 hurricane right now. you can see all of the hurricane warnings along the coast there of the florida peninsula. right now, the winds are at 115 miles an h moving in a northwesterly direction at 12 miles an hour. this forecast is actually updated since the last show here, but it still shows that this storm is expected to intensify as it gets closer to florida. so we are talking a category 4 hurricane all along the coastline there. it's possible that it could actually make a land fall there somewhere near orlando, but if that doesn't happen, it's expected to turn there to the north and east and just off the coast there of charleston as a category 2 and, now, it's

downgrade to a category 1 hurricane, and then it may actually just kind of meander in that vicinity for some time as the weather pattern just kind of keeps it in that area. meanwhile back out here to the west, you notice those high clouds moving up. they are moving in off the pacific. we are going to be watching a weather disturbance coming in off the baja peninsula. that could potentially bring us a little rain fall as we head into the weekend. as for today, though, temperatures staying below normal. we topped out at 90 93 is our normal. so right now, we still have the influence of this trough. it's to the north of us. so we are keepg those temperatures a little bit cooler than average. but as we head into the next few days or so, we are going to see high pressure just kind of briefly warm us up to the 90s on friday, and then saturday is when that moisture starts to move in here. so you can see future cast picking up on some green there, indicating chances of rain. but, again, it looks like most of the rain is going to stay off to the east of us into portions of new mexico and possibly west texas. all right.

clear skies out there as we head through the overnight hours. 84 to 89. so nice temperatures tomorrow. we're expecting to see lots of sunshine mixed in again with some of those high clouds, as well. a 20% chance of rain there on saturday. we'll be in the 90s then temperatures warming up a little bit more, back up to normal by monday. 12 sports is sponsored by your valley toyota dealers. >> oh, check out that happy dance. who could forget it? that was backup quarterback drew stanton's big shining moment last year, one that got a lot of attention both locally and nationally, cheering and dancing on the sideline as andre ellington ran loose for the game-clenching touchdown against the seahawks. well, stanton will get his big shiny moment this year when he stepped under center tomorrow night against the 49ers. stanton will start in place of carson palmer, who today was officially declared out for the game because of a concussion

it's the biggest game of the year for the cardinals. it's an absolute must-win game. hey, that's a lot of pressure to put on a guy who last started a game almost two years ago. but the cardinals have to take the pressure off of stanton. don't ask him to try and win the game for you. ask him to manage it with a heavy dose of david johnson running the ball. take a page out of the broncos or vikings book where you lean heavily on your defense with a quarterback not turning the ball over and simply managing the game. all right. let's talk some asu basketball no is entering his second year leading the program. they officially started practicing last week. a knee injury and academics has cost hurley two of his recruits for this season. both were big men, which means asu will be smaller and will have to adjust the way they play. >> we have to embrace doing some things that, you know, to compensate again for, you know, not having an ideal number of big players and the size, you know.
