miami international airport at this very moment. it is still unclear when any flights are resuming. team 12's cruz and others are covering this storm. we have miguel up first from west palm beach. >> reporter: the weather certainly has taken a toll over the last hour or so we got here earlier this morning, and we had some light wind. now we're having powerful gusts, strong push you off your feet. we're also seeing buckets of rain with thunderous rain at times. >> i'm in vero beach and i'm right along the surf here. this is a barrier island that has been evacuated, but there are some people in this mandatory evacuation zone that are still here. let me preface that by saying we will be leaving shortly. we have an inland location we will be going to. >> we have seen rain coming and

getting stronger and stronger. here at the end of the international fishing pier we saw a group of people, and one of those waves came in so strong the whole pier rattled. the group ran back to try to get back to shore as soon as possible. we're going to take a look what is happening now with hurricane matthew. as we speak, this storm is already starting to make landfall there over free both, bahamas. the eye, the center where you can see some heavy rain bands just to the north there off the coast of freeport. so, again, you're looking at a very narrow piece of land here. off to the west you see the rain bands and many of them already impacting the eastern coast there of florida. so fort lauderdale getting the rain. fort pierce, and take a look at all of that rain moving in to the orlando area right now. so this is even before the center of this storm makes landfall. the hurricane warnings extend

there of the southern tip of the florida peninsula. so right now it is a category four hurricane. the winds now at 130 miles per hour. it is moving northwest at about 13 miles per hour. it will continue in this direction here as we head into tomorrow possibly making landfall tomorrow at about 2:00 there off the coast. even if it doesn't, the hurricane force winds extend about 60 miles to the west of the center of that storm. so, again, we're talking not so much concern that it makes landfabu be just the same. and then spit a category two there off the coast of florida. one off the coast of charleston. that is saturday at about 2:00. and then the storm will go out to sea, but it lingers. it will me ander. it is going to block it from moving any further there off the coastline. we'll continue to give you updates as the storm progresses.

hurricane matthew continues. lester holt bratses live and that is coming up after 12 news at 5:00. scottsdale police have just released crime scene photos of a rape case of a former mma fighter. it is a case that has gained national attention and for the first time the photos take us inside the night the police say a woman was brutally attacked in old town scottsdale. we have more on the investigation. skers charges, including kidnapping and sexual assault. he was supposed to show up in court today but his lawyer says he was not able to make it because of medical reasons. snap shots of a september night ending with this man and the former mma fighter ramirez in jail. and an alleged sexual assault victim dumped off alone on a tempe street. the court documents say ramirez picked up the passed out woman, flung her over his shoulder,

scottsdale parking garage and sexually assaulted her inside. >> and just the fact that the video shows my client carrying the victim, it is not kidnapping. >> reporter: evidence markers inside that parking garage, footprints and a cell phone charger the victim says she lost. the police say ramirez then took the victim to his home where he assaulted her again. next, investigators captured the suspect's apartment, from the living room to bedrooms and and female clothing now become evidence, too. the victim told police she had been out drinking and her next memory was waking up to a man she did not know, sexually assaulting her. >> she had absolutely no ability to consent. the fact that she was out cold. >> ramirez is seconded to be in court again on october 15. 12 news. >> thank you. and now to our hot headlines at 5:00. a man 12 news spoke to after a

arrested accused of starting several of those same fires. this is the 31-year-old who broke down crying in front of our cameras. when we spoke to him about the arson investigation about a month ago and he is now facing several counts of arson and is also considered an investigative lead in several other fires in the area. and behind bars for allegedly assaulting a police officer at throwing rocks at other fans during that gym and hit a few of the officers in the process. he is now facing aggravated assault charges. and peoria police continue their search for the man in this sketch who violently attacked and then tried to sexual assault a woman. it happened near lake pleasant parkway about a week ago. the investigators say the female victim was working alone at a housing development in that area. she was able to fight him off

time. >> leaves on a mountain will be changing colors for the next few weeks, however, the majority of the change has already taken place. j and pretty soon we'll be seeing snow thereupon, right? >> i know. i hope they get a lot because last year they kind of got gypped. >> here is a look at camelback mountain. we have clear skies and it looks pretty nice. we are going to take a look at our hurricane here. you can see the center of that storm there moving over free port, bahamas. this is a very powerful storm. you can see those rain panteds, especially the heaviest rain bands there north of the eye wall of that sturm and just north of freeport. and then we're already starting to see some of the rain bands impact the eastern florida coastline. basically from fort lauderdale stretching all the way up towards orlando. i'm going to keep an eye on this category four hurricane right now.

with it. so once it moves over the bahamas, it will be out there over open water for just a short time before the center of that storm gets dangerously close to making landfall along the coast which it may actually do that, but this is showing you the heaviest rainfall amounts there in the white. so we're talking some areas along the coastline picking up more than 12 inches of rainfall. and then it continues on, savannah there getting pounded with rain. charleston and even stretching all the way of norfolk, virginia. they're expecting to see some pretty heavy rainfall and ventally the storm will head out to sea there on sunday. meanwhile, here in arizona, we have lots of sunshine up north. we have the high clouds moving in down to the south. that could actually be a sign that things are changing for us here in arizona. over the weekend we're going to see a disturbance, move up from the south, and that will bring us rain chances, primarily up in the high country and we'll have chances in the valley on saturday.

more so on having a back-up plan the sew a few showers around. here is what it looks like tomorrow night after about 10:00, we'll start with a 20% chance of rain. saturday morning, we have a 30% chance of rain. saturday evening we go back down to a 20% chance that we'll see some rainfall there. then sunday it appear this is system will be moving out. tonight, clear skies. 59 to 67. tomorrow we're going to warm things up. 91 to 96, but we will see and the sun is up at 6:27 in the morning. here is what the weekend looks like there. there is that 30% chance of rain on saturday. 90 on the high. rooking pretty good for the susan g. komen race. and then next week, the temperatures do warm up and it will be pretty dry all the way through thursday. all right. thank you. let's talk some sports a big- time beatdown in baseball
