officers shoot a man pointing a gun at them. pointing a gun at them. team 12's nico santos joins us live from the scene with the latest on our top story... that man is in the hospital after four officers say they were forced to shoot him. 7 last night in the area near 36th street and van buren. officers say they responded to reports of a man roaming with a gun and some type of protective gear on.when officers approached him he had that gun in his hand.he tried to run away.but as officers caught up to him he hid behind multiple barriers at one point using a police unit as a shield.investigators say -- two separate times the man pointed his fun at officers.that's when officers fired their weapons at him to neutralize the threat.no word how many times he was hit.but four officers each with seven years' experience or

suspect was taken to the hospital.he was in surgery earlier this morning and is expected to be ok.as the investigation continuesthe phoenix police department still has not identified this suspect.more updates throughout the morning.live in phoenixnico santos12 today. federal prosecutors announced yesterday - they will charge sheriff joe arpaio with criminal contempt of court. the charges stem from a racial profiling case where arpaio was ordered by a judge to stop targeting latinos during immigration sweeps. the judge believes arpaio ignored the orders - because he thought it would help his re-election bid. the contempt trial is scheduled to begin on december 6-th. if convicted -

months in prison. paul penzone -- the man running against arpaio for sheriff released this statement.. saying in part: "no one is above the law and today's announcement in court epitomizes the strength of the judicial system. i have utmost confidence that our voters will make the right decision to repair the damage that has been done to our community." early voting begins today for the city of phoenix special council election as well as the state general election. voters who are on the early voting list or who requested an early mail-in ballot as soon as today. if you are not scheduled to receive an early ballot.. you can request one online at maricopa-dot-vote. phoenix police are investigating after a man crashed into a wall yesterday afternoon. it happened near chandler boulevard and desert foothills parkway. the 50-year-old later died from his injuries. a woman is in serious condition this morning after a crash involving two school buses in phoenix. it happened this afternoon near 43rd avenue and union hills.
